5 comments about Construction Planning, Equipment and Methods.
- The text book is an excellent resource for my upcoming professional engineer's exam. I would recommend this text book for potential professional engineers getting ready to take the professional engineer's exam
- This book was alright. Some illustrations, decent descriptions. Some of the problems were too in depth. It would be alright for some just starting out in construction or someone who just wants to learn a little about it.
- We speak English & use the Metric System in the rest of the World.
When will American publishers discover this ?
This book requires me to convert every single worked example to the units used by the rest of the world.
I suggest that they publish the worked examples on a CD with book using the units that he rest of the world use !!!
- The second chapter is the nuts and bolts of financing equipment. The numbers are commonly wrong. There are WAY to many mistakes. This is a textbook for a heavy equipment class. It's the third week of the semester (Fresno State) and we're dying...
- This book had so many errors, the entire class including the instructor were confused. It is very sad to see a textbook in its fifth or sixth edition with so many mistakes. Many of the questions at the end of the chapter are so poorly written, that there was no solution. Clearly, the authors had a goal and a message to convey, but because there was no attention to detail, the message was muddy at best. I remain disenchanted with the general quality of textbooks, but this is one of the worst examples of a textbook I have ever seen. Come on America, educate!

2 comments about ArchiLab's Earth Buildings: Radical Experiments in the Architecture of the Land.
- ArchiLab (notice "Lab") is all about architectural experimentation. Same thing for all its other books. If you are into this field this book is perfect for you
Recommended for students to go beyond everyday possibilities
- When I first received this book, I was very excited about it, as the book itself is nicely crafted with lots of full-color renderings. But as I read through it, I found myself often neck deep in lofty theoretical idealsism, longing for a real built project to examine.
The book consists of a series of introductory articles that examine a variety of concepts with varying degrees of pertinence to ecological design (what I had thought the book was about from the title and publisher's review). This is followed by a selection of _short_ articles on individual architects and firms, as well as examples of their work. While there are a few projects that have actually been built, the majority were unbuilt or purely analytical works. My main gripes with this book are non-trivial: the material presented does not seem entirely suited to the book's title -- some projects had nothing to do with the Earth, and a few had nothing to do with buildings. While the content was at times thought-provoking, it remained too much in the theoretical arena for me, disregarding the practical application of the ideas presented. More importantly, the projects were all presented with just a smattering of information -- the text was too brief to be fully informative, and the pictures were often vague, obscure, or just too small to convey real meaning. If you're in college and need something to stimulate your conceptual brain, this book may be for you. But if you're like me and trying to find information to support or inspire real-world applications, look elsewhere.

2 comments about Albuquerque: City at the End of the World.
- A friend of mine just moved to Albuquerque so I sent him this
book. He really enjoyed reading it and mentioned that the
author had some interesting insights into the growth and
modernization of the city. If your moving to this area of New
Mexico, or are interested in the growth of southwestern cities,
this is a good choice.
- This is a wonderful book for anyone trying to make sense of the Duke City. It covers past history and politics. It gives you a sense of the city's future. It is a must read for anyone living in or moving to Duke City.
