3 comments about Collector's Originality Guide for Farmall Regular and F Series (Collector's Originality Guide).
- I have been waiting for a book about F-Series tractors since I have started restoring these machines. This book has exceeded all my expectations. The authors extensive research is represented in this organized book of factual, well written information backed up by many discriptive quality photographs.
Chris Allen

3 comments about How We Invented the Airplane: An Illustrated History.
- I hate to confess that I didn't even know that the Wright Brothers had written anything later in life. This was so great to read about how Orville Wright and his brother and family really felt about their quest.
As co-owner of an aviation restoration company that works on older aircraft, this book meant more to me than most. What I have noticed about most pilots is that except for those who get involved in the military or through chance - most pilots are almost "meant" to fly from the start. It is something that inspires them from the time they are kids. With the cost of flying and owning an aircraft, not every kid pursues his dream, but for Orville and the rest - once they are up in the sky it makes it all worthwhile.
- A full quarter century before the historic first flight of a powered, controlled heavier-than-air aircraft, a minister named Milton Wright presented two young boys with a model Penaud "helicoptere." As Wilbur and Orville Wright observed, "A toy so delicate lasted only a short time in thehands of small boys, but its memory was abiding,"
This wonderful book chronicles the careers of Orville and Wilbur Wright, drawing upon the writings of the brothers themselves and Fred C. Kelly, their authorized biographer and confidant for more than three decades. What makes the story of the Wright brothers so compelling is their deliberate, patient perserverance to discover how to make the dream of flight reality.
- This is a great book. One of my favorite quotes is when Orville was asked when he got the biggest "kick" out of the invention of the airplane, was it the first flight? "No", Orville said, "I got more thrill out of flying before I had ever been in the air at all-- while lying in bed thinking how exciting it would be to fly." For many of us who fly, we can understand this as we spend more time on the ground dreaming then in the air. -- Ross

5 comments about The Art of the Automobile: The 100 Greatest Cars.
- Gorgeous! Photos, text and format. Gave it to my brother and it shut him up for several hours, while he pretended his truck outside was an Italian piece of automotive art.
- Great information. There are models mentioned that I am seeing for the first time.
- I purchased this book for our lobby at work and we gave it to a client who absolutely raved about it. I've replaced the copy and I keep hearing "ooh"'s and "ah"'s of appreciation from our clients as they pour over the picures. The photos are large and very clear. The cars are positioned in romantic gorgeous locations which fuels the imagination. I don't expect this copy to stay long either!
- The author's list of what constitutes the 100 greatest cars is pretty sound but there are many others that would equally deserve a place; however you can't put everything in and still have a book that will sell for an economic price. Most of the photos are superb but there are a few that are disappointing such as the Thunderbird pics or the VW Beetle at the end. The photo of the Cisitalia has the rear cropped off, ouch.
The portrait photos are mostly full page and fortunately the publisher has avoided the trap of spreading them across the gutter and eliminating details in the middle, with a few exceptions. Overall it's a lovely book and if you like classic cars you are certain to treasure it.
- Elegant, pretty, but not designed to give much in the way of details on the cars, or more than one or two pictures per car. But he gives you a top 10, and top 100, and a second 100 - but where are the Triumph roadsters?

3 comments about Automobiles of the Chrome Age: 1946-1960.
- Have autos looked any better than Michael Furman's stunning photos, I doubt it. These vehicles look just perfect with liquid looking bodywork and perfect chrome, in fact they probably look better than ones just off the assembly line. This is fine art photography and if you wonder how the 'Furman look' is achieved there is a clue on his website. Click on BIO and you'll see a shot of his studio with an amazing looking light panel hovering over what looks like a very small car. It seems to me that his controlled lighting source is the key and when digital images are printed on quality paper with a 200dpi screen you'll see the perfect picture as on these pages.
The choice of cars seems rather arbitrary, classics like the 56 Austin-Healy, the 58 Ferrari Testa Rosa or the 59 Cadillac Eldorado are a few page turns from possibly the ugliest chrome grill ever of the 51 Hudson Hornet or the bubblegum styling and color scheme of the 56 Ford Crown Skyliner. As well as whole cars there are plenty of lovely close-ups of logos and styling features, the fins of the 48 and 59 Cadillacs, a Buick 49 Dyna-Flow trunk handle or the hood ornament of a 57 Oldsmobile Super 88. Furman's photography can make any vehicle sparkle.
Awe-inspiring as all these photos are I was very disappointed with the book because it is the wrong shape. There are seventy-one side shots of cars and they clearly don't fit an upright page. They rightly have generous margins left and right which means they are even smaller still on the page. If the book had been turned sideways into a landscape format it would perfectly complement these profile photos so instead of being small and surrounded by too much white space the existing ones would be three or four times larger. Another advantage would be to avoid the middle of the book splitting those shots that do extend over a spread. Also, for a lavish photobook it has the usual conceit of placing all the captions on back pages but because of the wrong shape there is plenty of white space on each page for the captions to be set in some elegant typography.
Michael Furman takes beautiful auto photographs and it is unfortunate that this book does not give them the exposure they rightly deserve.
***FOR AN INSIDE LOOK click 'customer images' under the cover.
- This book is another loving tribute to those classic autos that can send shivers up your spine sometimes, they're so cool. I simply cannot see how Mike's photography can be improved upon in any way, shape or form. Buy this; you won't regreat it, promise.
- Micheal Furman created an amazing collection of car photography. You're taken by the beauty of the different design of the era. Excellent gift for any car enthusiast.

5 comments about Peacemakers: Arms And Adventure In The American West.
- This book was one of the best purchases I have ever made! Already it has given me hours of entertainment, new knowledge of the west, and new insights in areas I had not before looked into.
The photography, and the items pictured, are worth the price of the book alone.
Overall an excellent book!!! And worth every penny!
FDL
- The book is full of color pictures of the guns used in the west and has exhibits from many of the western museums. It is not just a study of the Colt Single Action Army but covers rifles and shotguns. It displays the guns that are documented as being used by the lawmen and gunfighters of the time.
- Another great book from R.L. Wilson. Every bit as entertaining and informative as the others he's wrote. Fun to read about the old west and the guns used to tame it.
- My gun loving son, cried when his teacher would not let him bring this book to school to show his friends. It's absolutely gorgeous with an interesting text and glorious photos. We love the section showing the actors and their screen guns.
- This book is one of the most beatiful I have seen. If you like cowboy guns, buy this book. The extraordinary amount of information provided on the text is surpassed only by the quality and variety of the pictures. The book is divided in chapters coverring all aspects of the life during the period, and gives special details on guns of famous men. It is a great source for all cowboy shooters and gun collectors.

3 comments about Daimler & Benz: The Complete History: The Birth and Evolution of the Mercedes-Benz.
- JUST RECEIVED THIS BOOK AND AM WELL PLEASED. I'VE BEEN A LONG TIME FAN OF MR. ADLER'S BOOKS AND MUST SAY I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HIS MERCEDES BENZ SILVER STAR CENTURY BOOK. THE NEW BOOK IS MUCH MORE OF WHAT I'VE COME TO EXPECT FROM MR. ADLER. ENTHUSIASTICALLY WRITTEN, MUCH MORE DEPTH OF MODEL COVERAGE, EXCELLANT PHOTOGRAPHS, ETC. I RECENTLY PURCHASED MY 1ST MERCEDES, A 1993 600 SEC. AFTER HAVING OWNED VARIOUS ENGLISH CARS, LOTUS, JENSEN ET AL. I NOW KNOW WHAT THE FUSS IS ALL ABOUT. A BEAUTIFUL CAR THAT WILL ACTUALLY GET YOU TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. THIS BOOK FROM MR. ADLER IS A GREAT WAY TO GAIN A SENSE OF WHAT MERCEDES BENZ IS ALL ABOUT FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME. THANK YOU MR. ADLER
- Adler has done it again with a sumptious book showing the true evolution of the marque. Original photogaphy of very rare cars is complimented by museum archive shots, most of which I've never seen elsewhere. What amazed me was the 1930's poster art as well... Stuttgart clearly gave him total access!
No stone unturned, here are the cars we all love (and sometimes drive - or dream we could drive).
- After being disappointed by Adler's Duesenberg book, I approached this book with some trepidation. In the Duesenberg book, the one redeeming factor was the excellent photos. This book, Mercedes-Benz, not only exhibits worthless and erroneous history and information, the photos are a huge disappointment. Poorly cropped, over or under-developed and poorly printed, this book will become the first automobile title that I will actually return for a refund; it will not find its way onto my bookshelf!

2 comments about Hot Wheels (Warman's Companion).
- This is a handy smaller sized book from the maker of the great Hot Wheels Variation guide books. The first 2/3 of the book is all color pictures of loose older Hot Wheels cars that really seem to be more of a "Here's a sampling of a nice older collection" than a identification guide. Anyone with a Tomarts guide, (even an old one) really does not need this entire first 2/3 of the book as it is disappointingly incomplete. The price guidance of the older cars is a little deceiving as some of the pictures are of very pretty rough shape cars and all the prices are for near mint vehicles. However, the last 1/3 of the book is fantastic, albeit with no pictures. This is Michael Zarnock at his finest, listing very accurate pricing for an incredible number of variations from 1995 all the way up to recent years. The bottom line is that if you know nothing about collecting older Hot Wheels it can get you in the ballpark of knowing what one could be worth if you run across a loose one. If you do know what you're doing you can still get value in the most recent price guide of practically every known variation out there.
- This long awaited book has finally arrived and is well written and helpful to beginner and seasoned collectors. The book provides many high quality photos and has alot of information packed inside. The author is a very highly recognized expert in Hot Wheels and writes for Toy Cars and Models Magazine monthly. The book's size will help people when shopping for or selling these fine cars and is easy to understand.
I truly enjoy the books that Mike Zarnock writes and it helps me with understanding and documenting the cars I have in my collection. For additional information on the subject be sure to check out his "variations" and "accessories" books as well.

5 comments about Standard Catalog of Lionel Train Sets 1945-1969.
- This book is great, fantastic reading about all Lionel train sets and lots of great pictures. This book covers all Lionel O, O27 and Super O made between 1945 and 1969 sets. It also covers in sites to changes from year to year, and also what to look for to alert you to forgeries in many cases. P.S. NO HO
- The Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains - Cataloged sets, by David Doyle is a very nice book on Lionel Trains. The photos of the Lionel sets are excellent. Do not miss this book if you love Lionel Trains. Richard Archer
- Anyone interested in Lionel Toy Trains would find this book very interesting. Listings presented with many pictures and a excellent description. There are many pictures showing the original boxes the train sets were in and giving various dates on production. This book is not just numbers and prices. A very good source of information for the collector and train buff.
- I found my old HO gauge train set in the attic and wanted to learn more about it. Reading the info about this book you would think it covered all Lionel train sets. The truth is there is info about all sizes except HO. If HO is your interest look elsewhere.
- Excellent book, well written for even the most experienced Lionel Collector. I've put together a nice collection of books on Lionel Electric Trains over the years, and this nice work fits right and....and fills a void or two in the other works.
You will enjoy looking through it, and find answers to your questions.

5 comments about Airstream Living.
- The creative interior designs that Airstream owners have done over the years are highlighted, from actors, to retirees, to even restaurants. Lots of photos and an interesting read for anyone that loves to RV.
- This is a beautiful book that made me want to go out immediately and buy an Airstream and hit the road. What fun!!!! I can hardly wait until that day comes.
- Interesting and fun book. Shows how people have redecorated their Airstreams. Highly recommended for the Airstream enthusiast. I picked this up and enjoyed it, and even though I've never personally had the opportunity to actually be inside one of these -it DOES look like fun! In this you get the pleasure of seeing how people have specifically adapted these to fit and reflect their styles and needs. It's a neat book. This would be a nice gift for someone who likes this type of thing, or for someone, who, like me is curious about everything!
- I ordered this book from Amazon, and it arrived looking like it had been damp at one time. All the pages were wavy, and wouldn't even lie completely flat when the book was closed. I asked for a replacement, thinking it was a fluke, but the second copy was even worse. I returned it as well, and decided to purchase it elsewhere. This was my first disappointing purchase from Amazon, and am still surprised that they offered no apologies or concessions.
- This publication offers many photos and ideas for Airstream enthusiast. Having purchased other books that are similar, this one offers a lot of modern ideas for those who are restoring. It opens one's imagination to the possibilities of the legendary Airstreams of times past and spans the horizon to the new. I think it would provide information for the novice as well as the seasoned Airstreamer. A job well done.
