2 comments about MG (Shire Library).
- After owning an MG for over 15 years, and reading what I thought was everything I could find, this new version of the book is everything I expected. The writing is very informative, and the pics in the book are most enjoyable. I think this book is a must have for the MG enthusiast.
- F. Wilson McComb's book is probably the best single work on the MG Car Company, Ltd. He covers in exhaustive but very readable detail the history of MGs, from Old Number One to nearly the last MGBs. McComb covers the racing efforts, from British hillclimbs to perhaps MG's greatest outright win at the Nurburgring in 1967. Copious photographs illustrate the work and the appendix provides a wealth of technical detail on each MG ever produced. A tremendous effort and a very rewarding book.

1 comments about Roadsters : Fifty Years of Top Down Speed.
- Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Triumph, Shelby.........The list goes on and on of those great auto makers that produced those two seat wonders that handle as if they were on rails and make those of us who wear a toupe wish we used liquid nails to secure it to our heads as we rocket down the road sans a roof. Don Spiro covers all the bases as he takes us for a ride in these wonderful machines. This book is profusely illustrated and the author truly knows his subject matter. Buy one, you will be glad you did!

1 comments about Railroadiana : The Official Price Guide For the Year 2000 and Beyond.
- I expected a superior book because the Knous's background is so impressive on the subject of railroadiana. But I was surprised to find that it was not only a superior book but also a beautiful book as well. The pictures make identification of valuable objects much easier than with just text alone. And they make the book such a pleasure to browse through. Definitely destined to become the definitive book on the subject. I recommend it highly.

1 comments about Standard Catalog of American Motors/1902-1987 (Standard Catalog of American Cars).
- This is an excellent book, which ties together the entire history of the car from the early Jeffery thru Nash, and with the merger of Nash and Hudson, into the last form of independent automaking until it's death in 1987 ( although some '88 models were sold ).
Many technical sections, covering models and options, history and photos, experimental models. While not 100% accurate, there are some bloopers, it is about as close to fully documenting AMC's history as has been done nowhere else. A fine addition to anyone's home library.

2 comments about American Clipper Ships, 1833-1858: Malay-Young Mechanic (American Clipper Ships, 1833-1858).
- a definitive work. The two vol. could easily replace the other fifteen books on the subject of clippers that I have on my shelves.
- This excellent reference guide originally published by the Marine Research Society in Salem, Mass. in 1926-27, actually consists of two Volumes:
Vol 1: Adelaide-Lotus: ISBN: 0486251152 Vol 2: Malay-Young Mechanic: ISBN: 0486251160 Volume 1 covers all American Clipper Ships built from 1833-1858 whose names begin with the letters A through L, and Volume 2 covers from M through Y. I don't know why they are offered separately, as Volume 1 also contains the introduction and Volume 2 the Index, so it makes no sense to purchase these separately. Also the pagination is consecutive. The brief introduction explains the criteria used to define a Clipper Ship, which is a ship "...of peculiar construction, designed for great speed rather than for capacity." (p.v) The authors Octavius T. Howe and Frederick C. Matthews consider the "Ann McKim" launched at Baltimore in 1833 to be the first Clipper, and the era of the Clipper to be over by 1858 with the launching of "The Star of Peace" at Newburyport. The books are basically listings of all 352 known Clipper Ships arranged alphabetically. Some entries are brief; others however are quite lengthy and include excerpts of contemporary descriptions in the Press and in Correspondence. It seems that the Sailing Records of Ships were of great interest to the authors, so the records of the fastest voyages on several routes can be found in these books. The Index includes not only the names of Ships, but also of Captains, Owners and Builders. Also included are reproductions of about 100 paintings and some drawings. These have not fared so well in the reprint edition, and their quality is sometimes not so good, but many are still helpful. This almost 800 page long book can be used as a reference book, or as a book just to page around. Original editions are quite hard to come by and expensive, so this reprint edition is very reasonably priced and a welcome addition to any Bookshelf of Maritime History. Review by Walter O. Koenig

5 comments about Hot Cars: A Collectors Ultimate Source for Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Johnny Lightning.
- Please e-mail me at catfaux@home.com
- Very Easy to use. Very Clearly written. The only thing I didn't care for in this book is that to some degree it only covers the most popular cars. It doesn't give information on the amount produced. It also doesn't give any information on the amount of variations of newer cars. Clearly this is not written for the advanced collector
- I felt that the book showed the best samples of car colors than any other book of this type that I have read. And as collectors know, this is very important when judging its value.
- This book tried to cover alot of the major Die-cast cars, Matchbox, Johnny Lightings etc., but the Early Hot Wheel info was what I was most into and that was fun and I learned alot of stuff I never would have known otherwise. The beginners tips are a must for collectors expierienced and new. The variations are countless on these cars and would be impossible to list all of them, however if you collect only the 'Redline Years' of hot wheels it's a pleasure to see these cars and it's a good companion to other books you may have. Photos of rare color combo's and proto-types are cool. For the hard core Redline collectors only.
- Hot Cars is a feast for the eyes. The photography is excellent, the cars pictured are rare and hard-to-find variations and the price guide is much more accurate than other books on the market. It also includes tips on collecting die-cast cars and is a good general book about die-cast. This book, combined with others on the market, will serve collectors well.
