3 comments about The Art of the Sports Car: The Greatest Designs of the 20th Century.

  1. This is a great book of historical sports cars, with lots of information and beautiful pictures. This is a neat reference and a great coffee table book, very informative and very very classy too! I really recommend this for a car person, of just someone who loves the history or simply the art of beautiful cars.

    Sam Kochel: STi driver

  2. This book is a beautiful. You do not have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy this book, where art and beauty come together in a well-detailed book. An excellent edition to any coffee table collection.

  3. The author does it again! This time he captures 50 of the best sportscars with purpose made photography, done especially for the book, and writes simple but very informative text so everyone can relive the best of the best.
    Bravo!

1 comments about Pcm's Guide To Gas Pump Restoration.

  1. Benjamin and Henderson have authored a well respected series of books about gas station memorabilia and history. They also publish the magazine Petroleum Collectibles Monthly. This book has step-by-step illustrations of visible glass cylinder lever action, clockface meter and electric computing gas pumps. The over 1000 pictures of paint schemes show how different gasoline brands and grades were two toned, colors used and where signs or decals were placed. Restoring your pump correctly in a professional way enhances the value of your investment. See more info at Oldgas.com

3 comments about Horse-Drawn Commercial Vehicles.

  1. the cover of this book is very appealing to me, so I might be disappointed by the contents. but, on the contrary, when looking inside, I was amazed by the quality. In Germany there are very few books on carriages and coaches and, as far as I know, none about commercial. those available are either on luxury coaches, actual sports vehicles and some few containing carriages for personal transport, either mail or private, museum descriptions and reprints of old books. I am positive that I own more than 80 % of all there is on the subject. so it was natural starting to look abroad, and I must be careful not to try to get everything all at once, since temptation is there with so many superb books on the market. to my opinion, this one belongs to the best there is, but I admit having been lucky this far since up to now all were exceedingly good containing exactly what I had been looking for. and at reasonable price, too.

  2. A fun and informative little book. Most insightful on pre motor transport technology. Most fascinating for those interested in history or in Horse drawn Transport.

Some of these little carriages, such as the double decker omnibus and the tree transport, blow the mind in regards to the genius of our forbears in how they applied the technology they had. Then there are the dump wagons.

A must for any library of anyone interested in pre-motor technology.

  3. A unique book covering vintage horse drawn vehicles of the 19th century. Besides the well written text, I found the illustrations, photos and diagrams amazing in their detail. There are over 250 illustrations. Truly a wonderful reference for anyone into antique transportation history.

3 comments about O'Brien's Collecting Toy Cars and Trucks: Identification & Value Guide (Collecting Toy Cars & Trucks).

  1. For Matchboxes, very difficult to find and reasearch based on a proprietary numbering system. Numbering system not clearly articulated in overview. I had to purchase a new "Matchbox specific" guide from another publisher.

  2. Information seems to be well organized and spelled out, but was disappointed that there were so few color pictures.

  3. I've found most everything I was looking for all in one source! If you like collecting cars and trucks, you must have this book!

5 comments about Standard Catalog of Ferrari 1947-2003.

  1. While I do think that this book has many great pictures of beautiful Ferraris, I find it lacking in the technical data it attempts (extremely poorly) to present. Many of the production specifications do not even match data published by Ferrari itself. Some of the dates of manufacture for certain models are inconsistent as well and do not account for many of the major modifications that certain cars underwent as they evolved. Just to pick one, the car I am most familiar with-the Ferrari 456 has a starting date of manufacture that is both correctly (1992) and incorrectly listed (1995). There were 3 evolving versions of the 456 that were produced over the years, each improved version replacing the previous one. The original 456 (mentioned only as a footnote), the 456 GT (which appeared in 1996, not 1995), and the 456M GT, which began production in 1998 and is not directly mentioned in the book anywhere. The 456 debuted in 1992 and is not mentioned until the 1995-1996 section of the book and is then presented in this section as if it were a new model, incorrect. Technical data is also sloppy. For instance, the Ferrari 456 GT (the only model directly mentioned in the book) is listed as being outfitted with a 5 speed manual transmission (the manual transmission option offered on the 456, 456 GT, and 456M GT has always been 6 speed, this is true for ALL year models). The book also makes little distinction other than cosmetic improvements in the transition of the 456 GT to the more refined 456M GT (it does not even mention the 456M GT distinction anywhere). For the 456M GT, the engine was retuned to increase brake horsepower (bhp) from 436 to 442 (an improvement which stayed with the car until it was discontinued in 2003 and is not reflected anywhere in the technical stats of the book). I am only listing verifiable inconsistencies for ONE car mentioned in this book. Based solely on these facts alone this book is reduced to a well thought out picture history of the Ferrari line. It should not be utilized as a technical reference tool (as the author clearly intends it to be) for any specific model as nearly all of them are also riddled with similar errors.

  2. the book is generally perfect for knowin about ferraris but its not high quality book...
if you wanna know about ferrari dont hesitate to buy it..

  3. This is an excellent companion to the standard catalogue series.

  4. Mike Covello is a real car guy and a Ferrari owner. He loves the marque and his passion shows in his writing - I follow his work as a regular contributor to Auto Week and Forza Magazine. Yes, this book does have a few warts probably the result of time pressure, the difficulty in confirming details and simple human error. But it's still one of those "must have" books that Ferrari fans need on their book shelves. I have a signed copy and consult it when I need to understand the differences between the many confusing (to me) models. This book is priced well and rich enough in detail to make it a worthwhile investment.

  5. this book provides great pics of ferraris, and gives a good historical backround about enzo. it also has stats of all the cars. but it is missing some models and some of the data is wrong, it could be better but it is a cool book.
