5 comments about Lionel Trains Pocket Price Guide 1901-2010 (Greenberg's Pocket Price Guide Lionel Trains).
- I have Lionel Train Pocket Price 1901 - 2010. Print quality remain good and price adjustments for valuable asset collectibles show slight rise item values than Lionel Train Pocket Price 2007.
Purchased Lionel Train Pocket Price found good deal at Amazon.com
Smile,
Randall Biell
- I'm new to the game of collecting / buying Lionel trains. I was looking for a guide that would give me a broad description of the various trains, accessories, etc. made by Lionel over the years (INCLUSIVE OF PHOTOS OF EXAMPLE ITEMS), along with a range of fair-market prices.
Unfortunately, I found that this guide must be tailored to the experience, serious collector who already (and completely) knows Lionel stock. The guide has pages and pages of listings (a good thing), but they only include:
Lionel Item Number; a five or six word description (no photos); excellent price; mint price.
Again, perhaps a good resource for the experience collector. But definitely NOT helpful to someone like me who is trying to learn more about the Lionel family of trains and how to distinguish / recognize them.
Sorry ... but I'll be returning my copy to Amazon.
- Greenberg's Guides Lionel Trains 2010 Edition offers a pocket-sized guide packed with the basic facts on Lionel train collecting, covering all the basics of buying, selling or trading Lionel trains and accessories from prewar to modern times. Product listings include brief descriptions of each item, variations, and fair-market values. The truly pocket-sized slim format lends to take-along toting and is a fine pick for any Lionel collector's library.
- Excellent rtesource for the train collector. Easy to use and understand. Pricing is spot on.
- Need this guide to get a good idea if you are getting a good deal on purchasing items at train shows, etc.

3 comments about Beckett Official Price Guide to Hot Wheels 2009 (Beckett Price Guide to Hot Wheels).
- My son love this. You have the Official Price Guide from 2007 models to 2009. It is so awesome to see how a 2007 Hotwheel model value is for colectors. We find out that one of my son's favotite Hotwheels actual value is $10.49 for colectors. Wont sell it though :)
- THIS BOOK IS GOOD FOR COLLECTORS NEW TO COLLECTING.I WAS EXPECTING THW CURRENT VALUE OF OLDER HOT WHEELS THAT I HAVE .
- This is the second one that has come out in two years. It is full of color pictures and has alot of information and some bonus stuff as well. A must for any Hot Wheels collector.

5 comments about Winchester: An American Legend.
- I live in Australia and I'm always on the lookout for books about the history of guns, as my father and brothers are collectors and it's getting harder and harder to find books of these sort here. Amazon made it very easy to order and make payment, I ordered 4 books at once, they all arrived neatly packed and in no time at all! Extremely happy with the process, I'll be a return customer!!
- It is a coffee table book for anyone who loves beautiful guns. But it is more than that, too. Prop it up (its a monster book, hard on the wrists) and delve into the history of these deadly works of art, and into the history of America's Number One riflemaker.
Wilson is a fine, workmanlike writer with a full grasp of his subject. The photos are magnificent. This book sits in the place of honor in my own living room, and I notice all but the most die hard hoplophobes are inexorably drawn to it, losing themselves in the text and photos, marveling at the genius of the Winchester designs and the artistry of the gunmakers. It's harder to find a better recommendation than that one. An essential text for the Winchester fan, or anyone who shoots or collects.
Hal Herring
author of:
[ASIN:0762745088 Famous Firearms of the Old West: From Wild Bill Hickok's Colt Revolvers to Geronimo's Winchester, Twelve Guns That Shaped Our History]
- One more of my top books for the value on my list. I am still learning about guns form these books.
- This book is an eye opener for sure! Okay it is a coffee table book rather than a serious reference work, but hey, you cannot deny the shear luminous beauty of the photography and the well thought out layout and design. There is good info to be had as well, this book is a 'faster' reference than Madis' work and leaves you hungry for more. Well done Mr Wilson, I will be buying more of your work!
- the next best thing to owning a winchester rifle itself.
excellent in every respect and well recommended.

5 comments about American Flyer Pocket Price Guide 1946-2010 (Greenberg's Guides).
- I needed to figure out what to do with a 50+ year old American Flyer train set. This catalog came in very handy as I could determine which items were reasonably valuable and I was able to sell them on eBay for prices very close to those in the catalog.
- Once again another great resource from Greenberg. Updated values on all American Flyer as well as the other current producers of "S" gauge models. Always an excellent resource for us.

- I get one every year to keep up on price variations, look for rarities and see what may have been manufactured for a club that I missed collecting, so I can keep my eyes out for one (or two)!). These guides are almost always spot on with value of each item by variation.
- I just got started with American Flyer trains and started buying a few things on EBay. Wish I'd have gotten this book first as it turns out I over paid for some things that "seemed" like good deals. If I had gotten this book first it would have paid for itself after my first 2 EBay purchases. This book only lists prices though; if you want more detail about an American Flyer item you'll want to get Standard Catalog of American Flyer Trains.

5 comments about Hot Wheels Forty Years (Hot Wheels (Krause Publications)).
- This ia a FANTASTIC book full of GREAT color pictures of Hot Wheels from the past 40 years. I highly recommend this book to all Hot Wheels collectors.
- This book is a must-have for the hot wheels enthusiast I can remember the early models I had when I was a child. If only I had them now.
- Hot Wheels 40 Years is a spectacular gift book that celebrates four decades of the great Mattel-produced icon. Beautiful crisp images complement this nostalgic tour of Hot Wheels, from the early Redline years to the present. You'll get fantastic stories from the designers (like Larry Wood) who have helped shape the finest little cars in the world. No other book out there captures the history, imagery, and nostalgia of Hot Wheels like this book.
- Hot Wheels 40 Years is a very nicely put together book. It is a vast improvement in design, paper quality and everything thing else the its five years before predecessor Hot Wheels: 35 Years of Speed, Power Performance and Attitude. It is important to point out that although 40 years are covered, this is no field or price guide and only has a very small number of Hot Wheels vehicle photographs inside. Collectors or would be collectors would need to grab a Warman's Hot Wheels Field Guide: Values and Identification or something like this to get prices of and pictures of all the vehicles out there.
What this book is, is a look at the Hot Wheels brand and its history through the eyes of an avid fan and collector. There are many interviews with designers and others associated with Hot Wheels along with many photos, sketches, castings, prototypes and the like. A lot of photos and information are about holiday cars, given as staff bonuses to Mattel employees, which are quite interesting and show the company is or at one time was a fun place to work.
The reader is taken step by step through the design stage of some vehicles. Commentary is also given on the finished product of cars throughout the decades as well as production errors such as VW beetles having the engine up front.
There are places where maybe the authors love for the product stopped him from asking the hard questions. Such as what was the public reaction to the Mystery car packaging (black bubble instead of clear so buyer had a lucky dip type experience, I mean it obviously isn't around anymore, did it just get cancelled due to lack of sales or were customers annoyed with what they got? Also no commentary on the general public's perception, of Hot Wheels being an inferior product to brands such as Matchbox (who are now owned also by Mattel), Corgi or Johnny Lightning and if Mattel plans on trying to lift the Hot Wheels brand image and quality of the vehicles or is content to just compete on a lower price alone?
Hot Wheels being pretty much the cheapest option for die cast car toys meant pretty much everyone had some of these things when they were kids. They are still priced well below Johnny Lightning (although granted their vehicles are more for adult collectors) and Matchbox today so no doubt if you've got kids today they've got some too. This book would make an excellent showing your kids the difference between your childhood and theres book.
The author is really into his combi vans and a lot of the pages are devoted to those Volkswagen vehicles. The back pages of the book have Hot Wheels' top 40 castings, which is basically the author's opinion on the best car brought out by Hot Wheels each year of the company's existence.
It's not a bad read and an enjoyable way to relive the past. Unfortunately a fair few photos make multiple appearances in here though, surely the editors could have stepped in and said hey, how about covering a bit more of the range.
- I purchased this book for my 6 1/2 year old son who is Hot Wheels crazy. He looked at all of the pictures and then put it away. It's really for the collector and Dad who played with the cars in the 70's. For them, it's a great book to have around.

4 comments about The Complete Wooden Runabout Restoration Guide.
- Great technical book on old wooden boat restoration; HOWEVER, you really need to bone up on your understanding of boat part terms if you're going to keep up with and understand what Danenberg is talking about. This is a must read for anybody contemplating the actual restoration of a wooden boat. There's a whole bunch more to it than just slapping on a fresh coat of varnish!!!! If you're still ready to tackle the project after reading this book, you probably really are up to doing it.
- A comprehensive review of woodenboat contruction and repair. Author concentrates on practical repair and re-construction. Not designed for restoration of show boats, but for serious amateurs looking to re-build and use a wooden boat classic. Plenty of phographs and drawings to help you along. Covers just about every topic from keels and frames to finish and upholstery.
- A comprehensive resource for all aspects of restoring wooden boats. Easy to understand and good additional resource citations.
- If you are planning to restore an old wooden boat this book is a must have.
Well written, large font and good content.

5 comments about The Art of the Automobile: The 100 Greatest Cars.
- This was a gift to my son, a car buff, who loved it when I gave it to him for Xmas. Haven't asked him more, but if he liked it, it's worth reading.
- Gorgeous! Photos, text and format. Gave it to my brother and it shut him up for several hours, while he pretended his truck outside was an Italian piece of automotive art.
- Great information. There are models mentioned that I am seeing for the first time.
- I purchased this book for our lobby at work and we gave it to a client who absolutely raved about it. I've replaced the copy and I keep hearing "ooh"'s and "ah"'s of appreciation from our clients as they pour over the picures. The photos are large and very clear. The cars are positioned in romantic gorgeous locations which fuels the imagination. I don't expect this copy to stay long either!
- The author's list of what constitutes the 100 greatest cars is pretty sound but there are many others that would equally deserve a place; however you can't put everything in and still have a book that will sell for an economic price. Most of the photos are superb but there are a few that are disappointing such as the Thunderbird pics or the VW Beetle at the end. The photo of the Cisitalia has the rear cropped off, ouch.
The portrait photos are mostly full page and fortunately the publisher has avoided the trap of spreading them across the gutter and eliminating details in the middle, with a few exceptions. Overall it's a lovely book and if you like classic cars you are certain to treasure it.

5 comments about Warman's Matchbox Field Guide: Values and Identification (Warmans Field Guide).
- Received the book I ordered in excellent condition and within a reasonable time frame. Very happy with my order.
- It can help any Matchbox Collector. The highligh is the set of photos. So complete.
- I recently started collecting die cast vehicles so the primary reason I was interested in this book was to know just what's out there. This book mostly covers the real old stuff, there's only a brief coverage of the post Lesney produced vehicles. Maybe collectors like Larson are mainly interested in the old stuff of their youth and this certainly would be a great little flick through book (it's not small enough in size to fit in even the pocket of the most obese sized person's clothing) for collectors of that era but a lot of us younger "newbies" are also interested in the newer stuff too. This book is published in 2008 so there really is no excuse for at least a good sample of vehicles up to 2007 not being here. Every Matchbox car I own is not listed in here.
I'm more into the entertainment themed vehicles myself and I was really interested to know what other Character Cars were manufactured besides the ones I've come across. I've stumbled across a few different Matchbox vehicles marketing various movies and wondered if Matchbox has a range that rivals what Johnny Lightning has out there. I am familiar with the Star Cars but whenever you come across there on an online site they are still in the blister pack and I would have like to have been able to see what they look like loose to see how close resemble actual vehicle in show/movie. I really just wanted a guide that shows a wide selection of what's out there (I realise a complete guide is all but impossible). This book holds none of those answers that those like myself interested in later vehicles are after.
This book does have very nice photographs of the small number of vehicles it does cover. It's size does mean it fits nicely into the palm of your hand if you want to carry it around a garage sale or something but as mentioned it's way to big to fit in a pocket. It is also fairly heavy meaning elderly people who struggle to hold thicker heavy books (a demographic that is where the older Matchbox models make up a large percentage of collectors) would struggle to flick through this. Those readers would be better of getting the full size version instead.
- It's hard to believe that so much information is packed into such a little book. It's the big little book for Matchbook collectors. The photo quality in this book is second to none. Although the prices of these gems are always in flux, it is great to have an updated price guide. The history, collecting tips and listing of online resources contained in the book are treasures in and of themselves.
- Most Matchbox guide books are encyclopedic in size. This is the first one I've found that is easy to take with you to toy shows, garage sales, and flea markets. The photos in the book are outstanding. The helpful collecting tips are well-written and are sound advice for collectors. All in all, I'm very pleased to recommend this book. Mine already has considerable wear, and I'll probably be needing another one by Christmas (hint to family)!

5 comments about The Old Outboard Book.
-
This is a "must have" book for anyone owning or interested in older outboard motors. Especially those in the 2 to 40 hp power range.
I highly reccommend the book, there is a lot of history here as well as mechanics.
Ron Roberson
Boyce, Louisiana
- book is very interesting
was looking for maintenance manual.
this book is a good reference history of outboards.
- This book is one to get for all ages.It lists all the brand motors of old. It gives the history of each motor which I found very interesting and helpful. It also gives a price guide of each motor and which I disagree with. The motor I have I would not sell for the price thats listed in the book. But it gives you the info on what you are looking for.
- This is NOT a detailed repair manual, but rather a valuable history of outboards including many of the obscure makes such as the one you have leaning in the corner of the shed.
- After reading the 2nd edition of Peter Hunn's The Old Outboard Book I couldn't wait to get the revised and expanded 3rd edition. I take the book with me when I go looking for old outboards and swap meets. No better reference exists in my opinion.
