3 comments about Dolls and Accessories of the 1950s.

  1. A profusely illustrated title, loaded with information on dolls, their clothing, and all the accutrements necessary for their comfort and care, is an absolute "must-have" for any doll lover, of any age. Whether simply browsing for pleasure, or seriously researching, Dolls And Accessories of the 1950's, makes a grand bedside, coffee table, or studio desk, library addition.

  2. This is a wonderful book about the fabulous dolls and accessories of the 1950s. It has lots of photos and complete descriptions and something for everyone. It is comprehensive and a "must" for collectors of this era- perfect for research or simply enjoyment and a trip down memory lane. Well done! Keep the books coming!

  3. I bought this book to match the clothes that I buy at garage sales and auctions to the dolls that I own and to make sure that any dolls I'm considering are dressed in their original clothes, and I was not dissapointed. With over 500 color pictures and pictures of whole catalogue pages I have found this book to be the best in my library.Value guides are given in the description paragraph not forcing the reader to turn to a back page and search for a corresponding plate number, which I personally find annoying.I would highly recommend this book to any collector of 50' dolls.

1 comments about International Dollhouses and Accessories, 1880s to 1980s (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. This is a wonderful book. All dollhouse collector's would benefit by owning it. Not only is it a very lovely, informative, hardback book, it has beautiful pictures with discriptions of dollhouses and accessories. The layout is great, making it easy to find the item along with a price guide. Dian Zillner has written three previous dollhouse books and one on toy buildings (some have been co-authored by Patti Cooper). All of these books are a great asset to the dollhouse lover's library.

5 comments about Modern Collectible Dolls: Identification & Value Guide, Vol. 4.

  1. As a bookseller on Amazon, I want to clarify the info that the Editorial review's "Product description" stated for this item: it is NOT pertaining to this book.
But first.. my review/comments were not accepted unless I submitted a rating so I chose something midway. I do not collect dolls nor sell them, and though I think this is a good book, please don't decide purchasing or not, based on my rating. Read other comments and then decide for yourself. Now the real reason I wrote..
This is NOT Moyer's 3rd Edition as stated but rather her first volume of her series "Modern Collectible Dolls" (not to be confused with Smith's "Modern Collector's Dolls" series.) Also, using the word "edition," as in "third edition," is misleading because each volume is not a newer edition of the same book. Each has different dolls, not repeating dolls from another volume and just updating info or prices on them. Thanks.. and if you buy this book.. please enjoy.

  2. I own all of the Patsy Moyer Doll Identification & Value books, and I am never disappointed. The photos are always so wonderful, and the information very helpful ...(especially when Patsy identifies the more obscure collectible dolls).

Also, the all the Moyer books are printed on quality paper, etc...

As any Moyer fan will tell you, once you buy one volume of Patsy's books, you will want to go back and buy ALL of her other volumes!

There are so many dolls out there, that truly, an author would need to compile all the information in many (many) volumes,-- which is exactly that Patsy has done, throughout her career.

By the way, Patricia R. Smith was the original author to have started the trend in compiling doll information into many encyclopedic hardback "Volumes" (except that Patricia called her books "SERIES" rather than "VOLUMES"). Infact, I believe that Patricia Smith started her doll encyclopedias way back in the 1970's!

Patricia Smith's very first "Series" are now hard to find , since they've been out-of-print for so long. (I was able to find all of Patricia Smith's early doll Series at a second-hand bookstore, many years ago).

Anyhow, after Patricia Smith retired, that's when Patsy Moyer took over the legacy (ie: to place all the doll information into encyclopedic volumes).

I believe that Patsy Moyer has done an outstanding job, since Patricia Smith has since left us, and I'm sure it was hard to fill Patricia Smith's shoes.

  3. This beautiful hard-cover makes a very nice coffee table book, but I don't recommend it for someone looking to do any in-depth doll research. The pictures are lovely, but details are scant. In most cases, the doll's height measurements, characteristics, year of production, etc., are not even listed. She also throws in quite a few new artist dolls and 70's fashion dolls which don't seem to fit in with the rest of the book and are of little interest to vintage doll collectors.

  4. This 303 page hard cover 3rd edition identification and value guide contains nearly 800 large full color photos of every type of modern collectible doll from advertising dolls, Alexander, Barbie, to cloth, comic, Effanbee, hard plastic, Hasbro, Mattel, Storybook, etc., etc. 45 chapters of dolls in all. Each chapter provides an overview of the dolls and what to look for in that type of doll. Estimated values are shown. The pictures are superb- almost like seeing the dolls themselves. With its heavy lifetime laminated cover, the book weighs 3 pounds !! It's a keeper.

1 comments about Greenberg's Guide to Marx Instruction Sheets.

  1. Each Marx/Allstate/Montgomery Ward/Grants/Western Auto/Walgreens train set made by the Louis Marx company came with a number of instruction sheets. At the least, there was the basic sheet showing how to connect the transformer to the track and how to put the track together. It included a synopsis of how to lubricate the locomotive.

If your set had any type of accessories, these were covered by additional "IS-#" sheets (where # is the sheet #). A deluxe set sold at any of the listed stores might have a instruction sheet for the track/engine/transformer, plus the sheet for each accessory.

If you need replacement IS sheets, this is the book for you!

2 comments about Official Price Guide to Action Figures: 2nd Edition (Official Price Guide to Action Figures).

  1. This book had all black and white pictures, and almost all of them showed the item in its package. I needed a book to help me IDENTIFY individual figures, which this book DEFINATELY DID NOT DO. I immediately returned the book.

  2. This was a very informative book. I liked the fact it went back a while to older figures I am missing, as well as all the hints and thips along the way. Kudos to Amazon for featuring this book!!
