1 comments about Treasury of Barbie Doll Accessories: 1961-1995.

  1. Upon opening this guide, Rupp demonstrates immediately why it is so essential to have this book in your library. From the Table of Contents page, all the way through to the Epilogue, Rupp presents the reader with 412 of the clearest, most colorful photos of Barbie doll accessories made from 1961-1995. With each picture, a caption is provided desribing these treasures with dates they were copyrighted, and other interesting tidbits that some of us have forgotten (i.e. Sear's exclusive, working escalators, even product I.D. numbers). Cases, houses, paper dolls, and colognes are covered. There's enough here to provide any child or fan of the 70's and 80's with lots of opportunities to reminisce and learn. Rupp has done a fantastic job. One look through this book will have you exclaiming, "Wow! I had that!" An excellent source of entertainment and education.

1 comments about Teddy Bears Past and Present: A Collector's Identification Guide.

  1. Linda Mullins identification book is a must for the teddy bear collector. I have followed Mullins' teddy bear shows in So. California for almost 20 years and this book captures the knowledge and experience of Mullins. This book offers comprehensive information that not only clearly identifies past collectible teddy bears but provides bear "seekers" valuable information on the newer bears the collector should be watching. Thanks Linda Mullins for such a fine book!

1 comments about Comic Character Metal Sand Toys.

  1. As the author of many books on antique and collectible toys myself, I know when PASSION and LOVE for a genre of collecting drives a book, and Doug and Pat Wengel have done just that with this incredibly beautiful book. Sand pails and sand toys have ALWAYS been a hot commodity among both tin toy and general toy enthusiasts, but COMIC CHARACTER SAND TOYS have helped to drive the market! Doug and Pat have brought us this EXCEPTIONAL book on a subject that has rarely been dealt with in such detail. The photos are FABULOUS and their examples from advanced collections are a treat for the eye. If BEACH TIN interests you, or even if you are just getting started...this is a WONDERFUL BOOK!

3 comments about Contemporary Hopi Kachina Dolls (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. the kachina dolls and photography were well done and could hardly be improved upon. however, the commentary is terrible; it is replete with errors; so much so that the reader is misled by unreliable information; this book should be withdrawn from the market until the errors have been corrected.

  2. The pictures in this book were quite good. I would have liked the captions to match the Kachinas. Some of the errors were so blatant that I find it hard to believe the book was proofed.

  3. Like many collectors of Hopi kachina/katsina dolls, I eagerly await the release of another book on the subject. I have several books by Schiffer Publishing in my library and have enjoyed each of them. Auhor Nancy Schiffer (a part of the company?) claims to be an avid collector of katsinam for the past 15 years. Her knowledge of the subject and research are some of the worst I have ever seen. There are at least three dozen ERRORS in this book. Any writer who misspells the names of two of today's MASTER carvers, Cecil Calnimptewa and Ronald Honyouti, should not have a book in print. Only one piece by Ronald is shown, but his brothers' last names are misspelled in several places. Various katsinam are wrongly named and the list of errors goes on and on. There are a number of quality books re: Hopi katsinam, but this is not one of them. Many average to below-average carvers are represented, while excellent carvers are excluded. A PLUS for this book is the number of katsinam which are included. It is the only book which has both front and back photos of every katsina. For an introduction to contemporary katsinam and reliable information, I would certainly NOT recommend this book. My suggestion is that Schiffer Publishing cease publication on this edition, rework it and REISSUE a quality product in a year or two.

5 comments about The Ultimate Guide to Hot Wheels Variations: Identification and Price Guide to More Than 2,000 Collector Number Packs!.

  1. I started collecting Hotwheels cars about 3 years ago. What makes me different than most of the other collectors, is that I live in Santiago, CHILE (here, Hotwheels cars market is very small compared with other countries). Many of the variations and models that exist in US, aren't available here. Mike's guide has been an invaluable tool for me to get those variations I never know that exist or I will never find hanging in pegs in Santiago.

I also have had the chance to email Mike many times and he's very compromised with this hobby (or better said, passion!).

If you love Hotwheels cars, you MUST buy this guide (or the new one that's coming by the end of March 2004).

    U2, from RTC.

  2. I found the 'Ultimate Guide to Hot Wheels Variations' one of the most valuable resources to date for the valuation of Hot Wheels variations; both for collectors and dealers alike. As owner of [a web site,] I refer to this guide on a daily basis for determining the minute differences between Hot Wheels variants. The guide is concise, well laid out, easy to follow, and extremely accurate (in my opinion).

  3. This book stinks the pictures are horrible I donated it to te libary. It stinks

  4. Hi Michael I had the pleasure of getting a copy of your book. It is excellent very informative and a great tool for us collectors. The descriptions were complete and detailed. I have been telling my fellow collectors about it. Finally a book that answers the question "Is there anyone more obsessed with Hot Wheels than me?" Well Michael my deepest sympathy it might be you. LOL . But I do want to give you your deserved recognition for a job well done on the book. Looking foward to future updates of your book. Thanks again for all your hard work on The Complete Guide to Hot Wheels Variations. Yours in the brotherhood of obsessive compulsive Hot Wheelers.

  5. This is a great book and being a variation collector for many years I can tell you that if there is a variation not listed in Mikes book, it probably does not exist. I have trusted this guy for many years and he has always been a straight shooter. I have never hunted for cars that were just rumors. I was so glad when I heard this book was coming out, I couldn't wait to buy it. It would be great if I had something he didn't have in there, but I'm still looking for all the things that are! And by the way. The Suzuki Quad is listed on Page 79 number 311 c variation, listed as "Tiger Paw Wheel" which some would call the POW wheel. Mike has always used his own abbriviations. That's why I like him and his book. (His web site was great, sure do miss it) He doesn't follow anybody elses lead. He goes his own way. I have met him and he is real easy to talk to. He is also the first one to admit when he is wrong, which you don't see too much these days when people write books. Thanks for the great book, I can't wait for the next one!

1 comments about Wonderful Raggedy Anns (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. This is a great reference book. This is the only book, so far, that I have found all of the limited edition raggedy dolls pictured. The prices are realistic for the secondary market and the book is easy to read. This book and Kim Avery's "The World of Raggedy Ann Collectibles" are the Bibles of my raggedy collecting. I understand that Jan Lindenberger has an updated version of the "Raggedy Ann and Andy Collectibles" being released. Her first book was my first Bible and an excellent handbook which has now become outdated. I look forward to reviewing the latest edition to see if it is equal to the first and to this one. If you purchase this book I know you will enjoy it.

5 comments about Kiddie Meal Collectibles.

  1. Mind you while I'm not a huge fan of fast food toys, I do find them interesting. So saying, I've certainly acquired my share of these items over the years, and yes, I like so many other folks at my office, have some of them on display at my desk.

Needless to say, Mr. Sodaro is very knowledgeable on the subject. (I remember seeing a segment about him on The Food Network, and heard him talk about fast food toys on my local radio station. Plus I know that he has written about fast food toys for Barbie Bazaar Magazine, and American Antiquities, as well as other publications, I understand that he's even been quoted in no less than The Wall Street Journal on the subject.)

He provides readers with an impressive array of facts and info on not only the toys themselves, but on the various food franchises that dispense them. Plus there are chapters on specific genres (comicbook superheroes, Beanie Babies, Star Wars).

So if you have these toys, want to know more about these toys, or simply want to know how much the ones you have are worth, I highly recommend this book.

Now all he needs to do is to come out with a volume 2 to bring the list up to date (it was originally published in 2001, and certainly could stand to use updating.)

  2. Admit it or not nearly everyone has been to a fast food place. These toys are fun and exist in everyone's home. Now we have a guide to find out how much they are worth.

  3. I saw this book on Top 5 on the Food Channel. That show (originally broadcast Nov. 10) listed the top five give-away premimums as 5) Crackerjacks; 4) S&H Green Stamps; 3) Bazooka Bubblegum comics; 2) Breakfast Cereal toys; and the #1 giveaway as Kiddie Meal Toys! Top 5 interviewed Mr. Sodaro, and he spoke rather elequently about Fast food toys, their history, and why we all love them so much. Needless to say, he goes into greater detail into all of this in his book. Great stuff I highly recommend it!

  4. I first read about Mr. Sodaro's book in my local newspaper (The Hour, Norwalk, CT), and found his concept for a book to be facinating. I later heard him speak on the topic of fast food toys and (of course), his book, at a couple of events in the area, and determined to seek out the book and purchase a copy for myself. Sure enough, it proved to be every bit as interesting as Mr. Sodaro was in person. While I am a collector of toys and such, I really had never given much thought to fast food giveaways as legitimate toy items until I heard Mr. Sodaro speak, and then read his book. Very informative. I recommend it to anyone who collects toys, or has eaten at a fast food location.

  5. I'm a collector of stuff, and most of the price guides I see are simply lists and prices, or slight variations on that theme. Here, finally, is a price guide that not only gives you lists of things with prices, but also offers you some insights into the background of the material priced. Misters Sodaro & Malloy have delivered an extended, clever, insightful look into the world of fast food toys and collectibles. most of the 40 or so resturants that are listed have company profiles, plus there are articles about the backgrounds of the various types of toys available at the various franchises. There could be more color photos, but they do have plenty of them in black and white. Hopefully they will issue an updated version of this very fine book soon.
