3 comments about Kewpies Dolls & Art With Value Guide: Dolls & Art, With Value Guide (Kewpies Dolls & Art).

  1. Since there aren't many available reference books on the subject of Kewpie dolls, you may want to consider adding this volume to your library despite its limitations. The title led me to expect a reference book that would assist me with evaluating Kewpies for the purpose of resale. Unfortunately, a large portion of the book is devoted to the history of the development of the Kewpie and their creator. The content is also very, very limited. It really just includes dolls with a couple of other pieces such as a cup and saucer and a neck kerchief (without prices); there isn't really any "art" to speak of, either listed or valued. It does have an index, however it's primarily organized by the owner of the pieces, not by the actual pieces. Also, the values are not listed with the illustrations. They are located in a chart at the back of the book, which is organized by the item name, size, material, type, year made, manufacturer and current price. Unfortunately, the names don't really correspond with the actual items and it's difficult to determine which items the chart is actually referencing. Again, there aren't many Kewpie reference books available, so this one isn't completely without value, just don't hope for anything comprehensive or easy to use.

  2. The Seller is Excellent. The book is as new. Thank You!!

  3. Kewpies are such a fun doll. This is a great book for my library.
I also purchased a fun read about stories about dolls, Dolls Aren't Just for Kids. My mother and sister love a book they can curl up in a comfy chair and read.

3 comments about Warman's Lionel Train Field Guide: Values And Identification (Warman's Field Guides Lionel Train 1945-1969: Values & Identificatio).

  1. When I first received this book I almost sent it back..its so small. I'm now glad I didn't, It's the book I look at most often. I also take it everywhere I go, It almost fits in your pocket

  2. Quite useful for a quick check. Very useful for on line auctions to see if more investigation needed.

  3. This guide has everything in it that a collector of Lionel's postwar trains might desire - descriptions, values and best of all color PHOTOS! Though not as detailed as the Standard Catalog of Lionel trains upon which it is based, it non the less includes locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars, accessories, sets and catalogs - it even lists Lionel HO production.

Though format is a bit different, but can be slid into my pockets - though admittedly I would have prefered the book have fewer, but taller pages. However, the color photos of so many items - there are hundreds of them - give this volume a definate edge over any of the other guides I have used over the past 25 years.

This book definately rates as a "must-have" for the postwar Lionel collector.

  1. Dictionary Of Toys And Games In American Culture by archivist and librarian Frederick Augustyn (Cataloger, Library of Congress Social Sciences Cataloging Division) is a comprehensive, A-Z encyclopedic reference guide to toys that have amused American children (and their parents!) for generations. Ranging from Legos, Mr. Potato Head, and Plah-Doh, to Scrabble, Tiddly Winks, Tinker Toys, and Twister each referenced item is provided with concise, detailed descriptions that place the various toys and board games into their appropriate social and cultural contexts. From action figures to yo-yos, Frederick Augustyn's Dictionary Of Toys And Games In American Popular Culture is a prized contribution to personal, professional, and academic American Popular Culture library collections and supplemental reading lists.

2 comments about The Robert Tonner Story.

  1. I have just recently begun collecting these dolls and their clothes. I love miniatures and the detail that goes into them when they are done to scale, quality materials, attention to detail. This doll has all that. I have Barbie dolls from my childhood and the first clothes offered for that doll had style and quality --- the later clothing line didn't come close. Mattel now makes a Silkstone line of Barbies for collectors that has that quality back.

Tonner Doll Company has had the quality in the doll and clothes since it's inception. The doll and clothes are to die for. Such detail in material, buttons, zippers, lining, etc., makes for beautiful clothes for the doll. And it all goes with the doll's story line - The House of Wentworth. I now have three Tyler Wentworth dolls (blonde, brunette, and red head), Tyler's sister Marley, Tyler's boyfriend Matt O'Neill, and a Sydney Chase doll (of the Chase Modeling Agency).

I enjoy collecting these dolls and displaying them in their different outfits. I highly recommend this book (and "The Tyler Wentworth Fifth Anniversary Album" book) to all Fashion Doll collectors and especially for Tonner Doll Co. doll collectors too! Enjoy!

  2. Great book! wonderful pictures. I have learned alot about his dolls. I wish I could give it more stars.

2 comments about Skateboard Retrospective: A Collector's Guide.

  1. Skateboard Retrospective by rhyn noll is filled with lots of wonderful pictures showing skateboard decks/completes. The antique, vintage, & old school skateboard pictures are simply fantastic! I was able to formulate a plan, then execute a vintage skateboard purchase strategy using this book. My hardcore sidewalk surfer days were 1973-87, on the hills of Univ Calif Berkeley, and flatlands of Palo Alto, Ca. Obviously the vintage section of the book was my favorite!!. I actively buy and use collector books as a guide due to an ebay addiction :-)I have a pretty good idea as to what is a good collector guide book and what is not. Thus, I recommend Skateboard Retrospective for skateboard collectors or anyone interested in skateboarding history. Oh, this book got me back into sidewalk surfing again! Yep, in my suit/tie, bald and fat. Started, 2001 & am going strong as long as I don't fall!! Can be seen on Sand Hill Rd, the venture capital location of the world... Guess a skateboarder never really grows up!

  2. The selective history of skateboarding thrown into a blender and set for puree. While there's some good historical action photos, and neat collectible skateboards, this book is so full of misinformation and jumbled facts that I don't know what to take for the truth. For example it says that Danny Way was an early pioneer of the air in the 70's. Danny was instrumental to taking vert skating to the next level, but not until the late 80's. The book is also merely a tool for the author to promote his own obscure line of skateboards, and for a small group of collectors to inflate the values of their private collections. As proof that the author has not done his homework, mixed in with the "glossary of skateboarding terms" are rollerblading terms! The book best covers the 60's, but after that it just falls apart. I could site more examples, and rant about how bad it is, but you get the point.
