2 comments about Pokemon Summer 2000 Collector's Value Guide.

  1. I liked this book because it was easy to find the cards I wanted to look at in a short amount of time. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because the prices were alittle high on the easy to get cards and in outer space for the rares and holo's. I find that its a great book though for a quick price check when I am buying or trading cards. I wish they would publish a updated book with all the new cards in it.

  2. This book tells you how much all the cards are including the new kinds of Pokemon.

4 comments about Tomart's Price Guide to Hot Wheels: 1968-1997.

  1. This book gives you a great history lesson on Hot Wheels. The photos are great too! Good for the new comer.

  2. Lots of great pictures, but the pricing levels are very arbitrary. Also, there are a few errors in the guide as to the existance and availability of some cars.

  3. If you ever had any Hotwheels as a kid and have have wondered what they would be worth now, or how many colors and versions there were this is the book. Hundreds of color photographs and wheel variations through the years along with current values. Quite a bargain, excellent investment.

  4. This book has been long awaited by the veteran and the novice Hot Wheel collector. Mike Strauss is assumed the "all knowing" Mr. Hot Wheel. This book with the previous, is the most comprehensive and detailed book on the collection since its conception. It would be impossible to conceive the cost to photograph each vehicle and give detailed definition should the collector assume such an endeavor. This book will be an added collector piece to the actual Hot Wheel vehicles. Thanks, Mike

5 comments about The Playmakers: Amazing Origins of Timeless Toys.

  1. Looking at this book reminded me of the many toys and games that I grew up with or found in the attic when I went snooping through the old stuff as a kid. This book is very well done, with lots of pictures and interesting facts. It is obvious that the book is very well researched. Worth the money.

  2. I was looking for a price guide for these toys and this isn't it, but I didn't even care because this book is fabulous. Wonderful pictures and the origination of the most beloved toys. Big, thick heavy book. Nice coffee table book.

  3. If you have fond recollections of tossing a Frisbee with a friend, putting a hotel on Boardwalk, using a "Q" on a triple word score, dressing a Barbie doll, watching a Slinky descend a stairway, yelling "Yahtzee," or winning a game of Trivial Pursuit or Pictionary, this fine retrospective by Tim Walsh belongs on your coffee table. All those memories and more came back for me as I turned the pages of "The Playmakers -- Amazing Origins of Timeless Toys" and learned of the inspirations, the struggles, the near-misses and the overwhelming successes of toy and game inventors of the 20th Century. The nostalgic experience and the well-researched backgrounds of these fun and educational diversions make for hours of reading and fact-finding enjoyment. I was surprised to learn that most of the big sellers over the decades have been of American origin -- though Trivial Pursuit came out of Canada and Rubik's Cube has Hungarian roots. It's a bullet-proof selection for anyone on your Christmas list who never quite grew up when it comes to playing with toys and games.

  4. Have you ever wondered who the creators are of the wonderful toys and games you and your family have enjoyed over the years? THE PLAYMAKERS has the answers. You may be especially interested in those most famous or very rare toys or games that you have tried or maybe just heard about over the years.

Even those that may deny they are toy lovers must admit they have some time or another played a game they really enjoyed or had a favorite toy of their childhood. Therefore, everyone is a toy lover! THE PLAYMAKERS will bring back memories of happy times for all ages. The collective book Tim Walsh has put together is remarkable. This is not about toys that can be picked up in any toy store or mall or even those toys made just for children. No, no, no! This is about toys for everyone: young and old, male and female. Toys and games made for all to enjoy.

This colorful, informative book by Tim Walsh is so fascinating that every family should have one in their bookcase. THE PLAYMAKERS is a terrific book that is not only fun to read but is also an historical chapter in the civilization of man.

  5. A flip through the pages of Tim Walsh's "The Playmakers" is a trip in a time machine. I had more fun reminiscing about my favorite toys than I remember having when I played with them 25 years ago! The genesis of the greatest toys of all time is a captivating story that has never before been told in such interesting detail. Tim's passion for playthings oozes from the pages and stirred nostalgia in the heart of this overgrown kid.

1 comments about Matchbox: Official 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition.

  1. This book has incredible details about the business of Matchbox, its incarnations over the years, and its related companies. The production quality of the book itself is top-notch (for example, the photos jump right out at you), but there are some features that detract from what could have been the definitive coffee-table book on the subject.
There are some notable errors in the photo captions, and some photos are re-run on the same or neighboring pages. The book identifies "rare" color schemes for the models, but inaccuracies makes one wonder about the credibility of those assessments (examples of glaring errors: reversing the identifications of the Iso Grifo and the Ford GT, or showing regular wheel vehicles from the mid-1960s under the caption of "Superfast" vehicles, which did not come around until 1969). At times the photos are shown on page after page with no real connection to each other. In that respect, the book lacks basic organization of the photo content (although the informative articles are arranged chronologically).
This is not a price guide, nor is it a comprehensive listing of the multitude of Matchbox products over the 50 years covered by the book.
I suspect the typical customers of this high-end book will be devout Matchbox collectors. They may not perceive this as the valuable half-century compilation the publishers had probably hoped for.

1 comments about Kewpie for Collectors (Kewpie).

  1. This book is filled with lovely color photos of early Kewpie paperdolls, post cards & other paper products that bear Kewpie pictures. Rather than contenting himself with only the very early products that were overseen by Rose O'Neil, John Axe continues with the production of later Kewpies. The most recent are not included, but Kewpie dolls as recent as 2001 are pictured. This is great for a collector such as myself who cannot afford to buy the early Kewpies, but must be satisfied with later reproductions. All photographs are in full color. A MUST for collectors' of the more modern Kewpies.

5 comments about Doll Values: Antique to Modern (Doll Values Antiques to Modern).

  1. Patsy Moyer's Doll Values provides a comprehensive fourth edition guide to doll values of the most collectible and commonly collected makers and brands. While arrangement of the book by maker and brand necessitate knowing this information for quick consultation, the many color photos aid immensely in making the identification.

  2. This is a good general guide for doll collectors. I wish the price guide section of the book was a little tighten, two much of a difference between high and low values. Another good reference guide I purchased recently was Composition and Wood Dolls & Toys by Michele Karl. Check that one out too.

  3. Contains over 600 sharp, full color pictures of collectible dolls, from antiques to moderns. Many listings include a brief description of the doll. Estimated values are shown for each entry. The book is a joy to look at. The back of the volume contains a complete 1,700 doll name page index for ready reference. Dolls are grouped by manufacturer. A wonderful reference book, and a bargain at the paperback price.

  4. This book not only gives doll values, but is generously illustrated with clear photographs and details are provided. It is an asset to both the beginning and the experienced collector.

  5. Ms. Moyer's book is an outstanding doll reference. She sets the current prices in ranges, from played with to mint, a feature that is unavailable in many doll price guides. This is my "bible" for buying and selling dolls.
