1. Finally after years of writing for some of the biggest car and model magazines in the country, Tim Boyd has ponied up with a book that, by itself, will become a treasured collector's item. This overview of model kit collecting offers advice, history, superb photos, value estimates, box art, and some wonderful built examples. Although the format limits the depth of coverage, this book is among the best on model car kit collecting. That it couldn't cover more categories is the only disappointment.

   Well worth the price, and a must-have for your modeling library.

1. This is really one of the most unusual Kachina art books out there. Besides the exquisite photography of Gene Balzer, Theda Bassman delves into how the new carvers who adapted to all wood carving feel about their craft and what it means to them to be a carver. One gets a real sense that the artists themselves come alive and in this way, bring their art alive. They demonstrate a trust in talking with Ms. Bassman, who has a long history of working in the Southwest Indian contemporary art world. In this way, this book transcends the typical art book.

1. Since there aren't many available reference books on the subject of Kewpie dolls, you may want to consider adding this volume to your library despite its limitations. The title led me to expect a reference book that would assist me with evaluating Kewpies for the purpose of resale. Unfortunately, a large portion of the book is devoted to the history of the development of the Kewpie and their creator. The content is also very, very limited. It really just includes dolls with a couple of other pieces such as a cup and saucer and a neck kerchief (without prices); there isn't really any "art" to speak of, either listed or valued. It does have an index, however it's primarily organized by the owner of the pieces, not by the actual pieces. Also, the values are not listed with the illustrations. They are located in a chart at the back of the book, which is organized by the item name, size, material, type, year made, manufacturer and current price. Unfortunately, the names don't really correspond with the actual items and it's difficult to determine which items the chart is actually referencing. Again, there aren't many Kewpie reference books available, so this one isn't completely without value, just don't hope for anything comprehensive or easy to use.

3. Kewpies are such a fun doll. This is a great book for my library.
   I also purchased a fun read about stories about dolls, Dolls Aren't Just for Kids. My mother and sister love a book they can curl up in a comfy chair and read.

1. For all those boys out there who have those spare $$$$ and want to a wishlist that will express their style and class.... this is the book for you chaps. Or for those who need inspiration to go out and earn the $$$ to buy some insane toys this is the most comprehensive, well catalogued and documented.... must have. One for the trophy room itself!!!
   
   As the book says the difference between men and boys is the price (& class & quality) of their toys....
   
   Guys this is an absolute must have.

2. This book is very good,really... I learned how to recognize Barbie head molds by period,learnd about the world's fashion history in the ultimate forty years and became much more a Barbie lover than before I knew this book...



3. THE BOOK HAD SOLID INFORMATION, WAS SUPPORTED. IT HAD GREAT PICTURES. I ALSO WANTED TO SAY THAT THE BOOK HELP ME LEARN MORE ABOUT BARBIE!

Since an Italian writer, he revolves a little more around the Italian part of Barbie (i.e., the fasions, models from Italy, excerts from Italian magazines, etc.) but he does go through a lot of the very famous styles that made Barbie "Barbie" like Enchanted evening, Solo in the Spotlight, Busygal, etc. There is also a 4 page visual on the steps in making a Barbie which I thought was pretty neat. He also shows about 16 of the around the world barbies. And lots of special edition ones too. A very good book; anyone who wants to know about the "special" barbies should get this book

Like Mr. Doyles other new Lionel train guide for post war trains, the Collector's Guide to Prewar Lionel Trains, 1900-1942 is prove to be an important resource for both the buyer and seller of antique Lionel train sets. Containing information on virtually every toy train made by Lionel between 1900 and 1942, the book will prove to be a gold mine of information. However I found two of the appendices at the end of the book to be of particular value. Appendix I, Awakening Sleeping Toys and Appendix II, Setting Up Your Train each contain information important to the collector. There is also a small chapter on Lionel Catalogs and Paper Products and another chapter devoted to Accessories, Toys and Novelties.
   
   All in all this is one you'll want to keep close.
