  1. This is a very poorly researched book consisting mainly of photos with captions like 'brass horse $3'. The first section on Breyers, Hartlands, Hagen Renakers and North Lights has some nice pictures. If you can't get a copy of the HR Handbook, this book has pictures of some neat horses, and there is no North Light reference book available. There is some info on older famous horses like Trigger, Fury, and Silver. Recomended only for the pictures in the first section.

  1. Looking for a good book to give you information on your collection? I know this book sure helps me! This guide with it's color-filled pictures, and acurate Ty prices is the perfect book to help you with your collection. It also has bonus ways on how to tell a counterfeit from an original. I almost bought a counterfeit Pincess and Doby, if this guide didn't help me. It includes a time line of all Ty Beanie Baby events, plus information on how to tell which Beanie Baby will be expenisive in a year. I bought one for (sadly) $20 and it was $40 two months later. And don't forget, this book it good for all different stages of Beanie collecting! If you're a collector, this Beanie book is the book for you! :-)

  3. as a 'novice' beanie collector, this book has been the MOST helpful in learning to recognize all the beanies/teenies/et al; don't waste your money on any others, as I have... the pics alone are great; i would be totally lost without this guide!

  4. Ty Beanie Babies Summer 2000 Collecor's Guide is a great way to inventory your collection whether you collect Beanie Babies, Buddies, Teenie Beanies, or *New* Beanie Kids. This book details with a picture of each baby and value by version tags. It also has a guide to distinguish which "hang tag" or "tush tag" you have. Whether you have a large collection or just getting started, I highly recommend this book for you.

  5. Summer 2000 Collectors's Value Guide for Ty Beanie Babies is great. Packed with lots of useful information, colorful pictures of all, and places to record your collections. Includes new Beanie Kids too!

  1. I just got started collecting, and this book has given me all the background information on what to expect. It's impossible for any book to keep up to date with the actual Beanies, but you won't find a better guide to the hobby itself.

  2. Some many books on BBs are simply price lists or have a very limited period of usefulness. This one is different and will be my reference of choice. There is no way to predict what Ty will do, but this is the book that can track what has happened to date. The section on spotting counterfeits is invaluable and has saved me from making a couple of costly mistakes. I also got some chuckles from the creatively posed beanies in the nice color photos. Right after reading my own copy, I immediately sent a copy to my beanie-crazed young nieces.

  3. This book is a good attempt at being different from all of the other Beanie Baby books and guides. However, it is not that easy to read because the authors grouped the Beanies according to genre, not alphabetically. Black and white pictures were not all that useful. Some background information (but not a lot) sets this book apart from the rest of the pack. However, it makes little attempt at saying what makes a particular beanie baby popular or unpopular or with whom. A good guide to starting out in the hobby but not useful if you are already immersed.

  4. This is a great book about BEANIE BABIES! This is especialy good for beginner collectors. It teaches you special facts about the beanies and how to collect them. I think if you like beanie babies you should deffintly get this book!!!!!!!!

  5. I really liked this book because it had all kinds of odd information. There is more than 5 blurbs of different facts per page. It has how to avoid counterfits, facts about each beanie, and more. It even has a checklist with pictures. This is definatly the best Beanie Baby book I own. It is perfect for begginers and experienced Beanie collectors.

5 comments about Ty Beanie Babies Value Guide: Summer 1999 (Collector's Value Guide Ty Beanie Babies).

  1. This book was great! It tells you how much the beanie babies are worth and when they where made. It shows the pictures of the beanie babies. In the back it has a list of the beanie babies and you can check off the ones that you have.

  2. The year 2000 means that we'll probably see yet another edition of this outdated book.

  3. I have heard that for the year 2000, Beanie Babies will no longer be. Can you comment on this, it would be a great disappointment for alot of children.

  4. If you are looking for information in Beanie Babies, there are three magazines out which give newer, more current, and more complete information than this. Also, numerous web sites, including Ty's own, are up to the minute. Every edition of this book just shows pictures of the beanies, which we've seen hundreds of times by now and never goes into any detail about them. Why are certain styles popular, and with whom? Some pieces are more plentiful than others and this kind of information is never analyzed. Until they provide more detail about the Beanies, this book will remain an inessential purchase and money not well spent.

  5. This book is Great better than most other beanie books but they need to include more info about the beanies. This book has a little info but not as much as I like.

  1. This is a good book. I personally think it is fun because when I was little I got to be in the short clip with all the kids talking about their beanie babies. It was a lot of fun for me, I still have the weiner dog part of the set!!

  2. That was my reaction after I took a glimpse at the cover of Encyclo-Beanie-a. The cover is just the icing on the cake, this amazing book is the best beanie book out there. Everything is great about it-- the pictures, content, presentation! A MUST HAVE for any beanie collector!

5 comments about Ty Beanie Babies Winter 2001 Collector's Value Guide.

  1. i received this book thinking it was going to be in good shape. when i received this book it was wrote all in. for the same price i could have bought it new.
    poor service

  2. The good folks editing the reviews here at Amazon have told me in no uncertain terms that my reviews should focus SOLELY on the product itself. Comments on merchandising are entirely unwelcome, at least according to some editors here. In reference to my comments on a similar product I've been told "Your review of the Collector's Value Guide has been removed from our database, as it is not a critique of the book in question. It is not clear from reading the review that you have read the book you commented on." How one comments on the quality of a "book" like the Ty Beanie Babies Winter 2001 Collector's Value Guide, which is almost exclusively about merchandise and exists solely because of marketing, without commenting on merchandising of the products I don't quite know. (To prove I've actually "read the book", hopefully I'll be allowed to tell you that the products considered in this tome are small stuffed animal [some imaginary] toys with heart-shaped paper tags on their ears known as "Beanie Babies". I'm not at all sure that I'll be allowed to discuss these legume-namesaked infants further, though.)

But I'll give it a try: Having read the Ty Beanie Babies Winter 2001 Collector's Value Guide, by an anonymous author, I can say that I was extremely disappointed. True, there were lots of good pictures, and tons of characters, but character development was extremely limited. The plot was completely incomprehensible to me. Whoever this mystery author is, he or she is far more obscure than James Joyce ever was! Talk about sound and fury signifying nothing! I can't help but think that another author would have done so much better with this material. Now, I don't want to give away the ending or too many "plot twists", but I was disappointed to find that as soon as the reader gets interested in a particular character, that character disappears ominously (or in Beanie Baby parlance, " is retired"). I'm not at all sure that younger children should be exposed to such a frightening prospect. Older children may be able to get past these concerns to see the essential theme of the book in a positive light as the continual renewal of life. But frankly, I'd give this book a miss.

  3. I do not really use this as a price guide, because let's face it, most of the common Beanies are only worth as little as 3.00. But it is a good color picture guide, and you can use it for knowing what's out there. There were so many 2001 releases, I couldn't keep track of them online. So at least I can go through the book and mark which ones I have, and which ones I want. I want to get all the cats, at least!!

  4. I love beanies, they are so cute like my little dog teddy. Unfortunately, sometimes he is not so cute and he eats my Beanie Babies. But at least teddy didn't eat this book, I don't know what I would do! My dog is so cute, I wish that I could find a Beanie Baby that looked like him.

  5. With each page having a space to put your bought price and market value (some filled in) this book makes it easy to organise the value of your collection. It includes Ty Buddies, the Mc Donald's teenie beenies the beanie kids and of courde, beanie babies. Being the most recent, it includes the new zodiac babies. Each page has colourful photos of the toy, the poem in its tag. its release date, retirement date and birthdate.

But wait there's more!! Found at the back are sport's promotion beanies, spotting counterfeits, tag generations and a list of beanies by their birthdays. Thank goodness its got a good index..........

1 comments about The Big Bear Book.

  1. "The Big Bear Book" is indeed one big book! But, don't let the size fool you. The text in this book is minimal compared to the size of the book. It reviews the history of teddy bears and gives a paragraph description of many of the main manufacturers. It also includes a chapter with information teddy bear events, museums, and shops. Famous teddy bears and notable teddy bear people are also mentioned.

What I love most about this book are the full color photos that fill almost every page of this book. Sidebars identify the bears shown, and suggest a value for the bear. Some bears are shown simply, without scene or setting, but many are shown with props, or even in the out of doors! Most of the bears are traditional, historic or famous bears (such as Alfonzo, and Winnie the Pooh) and many of those are Steiff. There are some artist bears included in this book, but they also resemble their traditional bookmates.

This is a great coffee table book for teddy bear lovers. I have a bookshelf full of teddy bear books, and this one is a book I reach for again and again when I want to enjoy wonderful photographs of the bears of my dreams.
