3 comments about The Duck Stamp Story: Art, Conservation, History : Detailed Information on the Value and Rarity of Every Federal Duck Stamp.

  1. I have never seen my husband so entralled by a book before. I can never get him to sit down for 5 seconds but on Christmas morning, he forgot the rest of his gifts and sat and read this book! I was amazed! It contains history with great pictures and facts and he was actually enjoying himself while reading it!
I highly recommend this book for any person interested in ducks, duck stamps or duck hunting.

  2. This book is beautiful, interesting, and a pleasure to read. I don't hunt, collect stamps or wildlife art, but this is a great book. I am truly enjoying it. I especially like the section on conservation, which details the history of water fowl degradation and protection in the United States.

  3. This is an incredible book for anyone who is interested in ducks, stamps, history, art, conservation, collectables, or Americana. There's the history of duck stamps as it relates to the entire conservation movement. There are interviews with famous people who are themselves duck stamp collectors and avid conservationists. There are beautiful photographs and artwork of past and present duck stamps, as well as other honorable mentions in the annual duck stamp contests. This book is just chock full of information and illustrations. The author has done a great job of wholistically researching the topic into every tangent of related interests. It is the ultimate coffee table book since there is something to interest just about anyone. You'll find that you meant to just browse through it, when before you know it you've read a whole chapter!

2 comments about The 2000 Commemorative Stamp Yearbook.

  1. I love these books and buy them every year. I was started at the age of 6 by my dear departed uncle on collecting stamps. I can now share this simple joy with my own nieces and nephews. The book is full of information and photos relating to each postal issue (complete commemorative issues for the year). And the copies I have purchased new from the original vendor, obviously the US Postal Service, have come with the stamps and the protective sleeves to insert each stamp into before mounting them in the book itself. (I have noticed some offered on the secondary market are without the stamps.)

They are each different in design each year and covered in a durable laminated type cover. A collection of these in the book case would provide many hours of entertainment year ofter year, without turning on a tv or a computer. They would offer a great family activity to work through and study upon the subjects included in the yearbooks. You know what they say about learning something new everyday....

  2. If you know someone who enjoys collecting stamps, or enjoys learning about Americana, then this is the a good book for that person. The very nice hard bound book contains the commemorative stamp series for the year 2000. What is cool is that the actual stamps are enclosed. Surrounding each stamp is about two pages devoted to describing the history and background of the stamp and its subject.

I do not keep books on my coffee table, but I would assume that this would be a good book for that purpose. I enjoyed receiving this book as a gift, and I am sure others would as well.

1 comments about Brookman Stamp Prices for Disney.

  1. Overall, nice. What keeps this item from receiving 5 stars are: 1. there are several (less than 5) mismatches between the descriptions and the corresponding pictures and 2) the guide uses the Brookman numbers when most folks know these stamps by the Scott numbers and 3) the prices are of course, frozen in time, current as of publish date.

On the plus: it's a complete dictionary by country, in chronological order, of every Disney stamp issued. All the stamps (complete sets), their souvenier sheets and variations are displayed and associated together. And lastly, the guide contains some discount coupons (probably long since expired).

I glad I have this guide - it's fun to peruse and helpful to use as reference material.

2 comments about An American Postal Portrait: A Photographic Legacy.

  1. "An American Postal Portrait" is a visually engrossing cultural history of the postal service. My father, a letter carrier in Kansas, was fascinated. It renewed the pride he feels in his job. It was a positive reminder that despite our techno age's slurs against "snail mail," the image of the letter carrier remains a powerful cultural--human--image. The book is a reminder that "technological advances" are poor substitutes for the power of human interaction. This book would be the perfect gift for anyone you know who proudly labors to ensure that our country's mail will be delivered despite rain, or sleet, or snow....

  2. This is a wonderful book that reflects society and postal history on a parallel through time. Check out the section on the dog that was a mascot and traveled all across the world via airplane and earned his own medals! I learned a lot about our postal system and the photos were great. This was purchased for my husband who collects stamps. He really enjoyed reading about the "other" side of stamps.

1 comments about Krause-Minkus Standard Catalog of U.S. Stamps 2003: Listings 1845-Date (Krause Minkus Standard Catalog of Us Stamps).

  1. I thought having a book that had a cross reference of Minkus and Scott stamp catalog numbers would be great. After using the Krause-Minkus Standard I have my doubts that this catalog is all that useful. I had problems with several sections of stamps not being listed and many listed incorrectly. Several stamp pictures were swapped around and several have the same Scott catalog numbers even when the denominations were different. As I said it was a good attempt at combining the two different publications into a single catalog but I feel that more time should have been taken to edit and proof the work prior to publishing. I think that if Krause-Minkus were to provide a credit to those that had purchased the 1998 edition it will keep some collects using the Krause numbers. I for one would ask for a refund or a replacement 1999 catalog.

5 comments about Rubber Stamping for the first time (For The First Time).

  1. I expected a lot more after referring to other customer reviews. This book is somewhat informative, but the projects depicted were not that exciting. The photos of the projects in the back of the book were nice, but no explanation given as to how they were done...only credits to the artists. I still feel I will need a more in depth, stimulating stamping book for further instructions. Overall, I would not give a recommendation.

  2. I am not a expert stamper but have been stamping for awhile. But this book is helpful for people that have been stamping. Its like a Stampers Bible. The outline and pictures are fantastic, as well as the instructions very easy to use from the beginner to advanced. It's one of the best stamping books I have read.

  3. I just started rubber stamping and I bought four stamping books for ideas. This was my favorite of the lot. It included several techniques I hadn't heard of before but that were easy for me, as a beginner, to recreate. The photography is beautiful and the instructions are easy to understand.

  4. Scheffler is the Matisse of the rubber stamp world. She lays out her projects clearly and with skill. Fantastic "rainy day" ideas for kids--and grandma too. If you never though stamping was for you (like me) give this book a browse and you'll want to stamp everything in sight. (I wish my cat were slower!) This book is definitive and indispensible.

  5. I am new to Rubber Stamping and have bought a few books - this one was by far the best for me as a beginner! It clearly lays out many techniques, gives tips and hints and shows some nice project ideas. The techniques are laid out for each project, but they are easily adapted to whatever project of your own you want to do based on that technique. Not only paper projects, there are many others as well.
