4 comments about Ronaldo!: 21 Years of Genius and 90 Minutes That Shook the World.

  1. This book mostly talked about his life off of the pitch and all the stress he went thourgh in the the World Cup.

  2. i got this book for my birth day a i read it. i thought that itall talk a bout soccer, but it didn't. i taked abot how he grow up inbrazil and how the enverment was so diffecult in there. how he escaped from all bad things like gaging and drug and alcholes. his father was not so lucky. he smoked and he had alot of alckholes and drug. he was very unkind to his wife and his son. there fore, his wife decided to built up her self and her son.

  3. This book is GREAT! It explains Ronaldo`s footballing life and his personal, and public life, and many secrets only a few on the earth know.

  4. Ever since the final whistle of the World Cup final I have had a big unanswered question. Why did the world's best player in the world's best team play so badly in the one game, the most important game, of his life so far, giving one of the world's worst performances in front of the world's biggest ever event audience of 2 billion. Months before the world cup the papers were full of Ronaldo. How Ronaldo would score more goals than ever seen before. How this would be his world cup like Pele's 1970, Kempes' 1978, Rossi's 1982, Maradona's 1986, and Romario's 1994. TV Programmes showed endless clips of his sublime skills, his genius. Months after the tragedy that was France '98. No credible explanation has appeared until now!! Clarkson's book to answer the question of what happened on that fateful day in Paris. He gives a complete picture of what makes up the man - Ronaldo. Clarkson delves into Ronaldo's childhood, giving an account of the early flashes of brilliance, his love of the game, his disappointments, the influence of his family and even his lack of confidence with girls. Then he takes us through Ronaldo's early career in a lowly 2nd division Brazillian League team. Then the breakthrough and subsequent move to Europe followed by stardom and megabucks. Then we are told of the trials and tribulations of his life in Europe. The immense build up to the World cup and the account of what actually happened to Ronaldo's Brazil. I must confess I did not let the book go until i had read in from cover to cover. Clarkson has a lovely smooth flowingly style of writing which captures the essence of the story. After reading the book I felt i had understood one of the most intriguing mysteries of footballing history.

3 comments about Scotty Bowman: A Life in Hockey.

  1. This book was horrible. I can't believe I actually made it through the 100 pages. The author talks WAY too much about the history of the league and some of the teams and not nearly enough about Scotty. In short, it was a terrible waste of time and money.

  2. This is one of the worst books I have ever read in my entire life. On top of the author being extremely boring, he can't even get his facts right. There were numerous errors in the book. The most blatant being the author stating that Mike Vernon won the 1989 Conn Smythe award when in fact is was Al MacInnis. Another error I found was in starting goaltending. The book says that Garth Snow started game one of the 1997 Stanley Cup finals, when in fact it was Ron Hextall. If I picked out these simple errors in the book, how can I believe any of the other information in it? The author and publisher should be ashamed of themselves for letting hockey fans read such a book. The author is a disgrace to hockey. Don't waste your time reading this book.

  3. Those intrigued with the Bowman legend-mystique will not find the answer to the perennial question "What makes Scotty Bowman tick?" here. This is not a biography and Hunter does not set out to entertain. Next to no attention is paid to Bowman's childhood, youth, or even to what drew him to the game in the first place. Rather this book is a straightforward, if somewhat dry, portrait of post-expansion hockey and Bowman's role in it. Its chief strength is its history of the architecture of the franchises in which Bowman has spent his career. Any gleaning the reader may be pick up as to the creation of Bowman's character or the methods of his success are, at best, inferred (although Hunter does put forth a convincing case to dispel the myth that Jean-Guy Talbot ended Bowman's playing career). Plenty of quotes from Bowman's associates are included, both pro and con (Bowman himself declined to be interviewed for this work). Yet for a volume that appears to be well documented, steeped in statistics and numbers, I found at least five immediate errors, not the least of which are the year of Bowman's birth, and the 1989 Conn Smythe Trophy winner (it was Al MacInnis -- a fact easily verified in the NHL record book -- not Mike Vernon, as Hunter surprisingly states.) If I found these errors, how many others will other readers find, and how reliable is the rest of the information?

4 comments about And Then Jack Said To Arnie (Running Press Miniature Editions).

  1. Very very relaxing Reading with a lot of laughs.

  2. I liked the comedy in this book. It made me want to keep reading because of the laughter.

  3. Don Wade, author and senior editor of Golf Digest Magazine, has put together a well-crafted book of true golf stories that he has collected since the '70's. There are over a hundred different golfers featured in this book. Each story reflects on the events told to Don Wade or personal expiriences by him while covering the game. This book is very humorous and is sure to be a hit with anyone, whether you are a golf fan or not!!!!

  4. This book is extremely entertaining. I liked it a lot. It shows that not only is golf a game, it's a way of life. Some of the stories are incredibly funny. There seems to be a story about everyone, including Willie Nelson. I think anyone who likes light hearted short stories. Be sure not to miss the ones about Dwight Eisenhower!!!

2 comments about Baseball's Good Guys: The Real Heroes of the Game.

  1. The writers do an excellent job of reminding the reader of why we like sports. In this Post-Mitchell Report Era, it's nice to see examples of heros who aren't so driven by personal glory at the expense of others. Overall, a nice read.

  2. I think Jack Walsh, and Marshall Cook have captured the heart and soul of Baseball's greatest players. Baseball Good Guys is a book that will inspire the reader to learn more of the Character and Integrity of these players. The statistics are there, but their ability to overcome adversity, personal problems, prejudice and more, will inform the readers of the real skills of these players.

Be forewarned, some of the pages come to life, in such a way that splinters (possibly from the bats) seem to leap into your eyes.

Good book, should be a must read for school athletes and those of us who lived during some of those years.

2 comments about Tiger Woods.

  1. I truly enjoyed the biography of Tiger Woods by Bill Gutman. I thought it gave good insight into what makes him the champion that he is. It is the story of one family's search for the American dream and the glory of finding it. It details how the dreams of Tiger's faher became his own. All the sacfrifice that he and his family made are detailed and makes his accomplishments all the more spectacular. I think this is a great read for all those who are fans of drive and determination and not just for those who love golf.

  2. This is an exciting, and compelling biography about the hottest player on the PGA Tour. This biography begins from when Tiger was two years old, and already hitting plastic golf balls in his front-yard. From not being allowed to play on certain golf courses, to being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play in tournaments, Tiger Woods is the jump-start that the PGA Tour needed. The bond between Tiger and his father grows from when Tiger won his first tournament as a youngster to his record setting performance at The Masters Tournament. This bond is seen throughout the entire biography. This biography is thilling, and threaded with compassion. Definetly for the avid golfer.

3 comments about Foggy: The Explosive Autobiography.

  1. If you are a motorcycle race fan, I highly suggest you read Foggy, the biography of Carl Fogarty. This book will teach you so much about the tale behind the motorcycle races. Foggy tells of many different things that he went through to make it on top, which he held for many years. I highly recommend reading this book.

  2. I think Neil Bramwell made few changes to what Carl wrote. The writing is not great but that is what makes this book good. Nobody is spared and Foggy tells it all (even details of his wedding night). Foggy also tells many embarassing stories on himself. It is a delightful read. The only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that he is constantly making excuses about the times he was beaten and bragging about how easy it was when he won. But, on the other hand, what do you expect from Carl? I am not a fan of his but I really loved this book. If you are a fan of world superbike racing, I think you should definitely buy this book.

  3. For all those fans of Carl Fogerty and for any fan of racing, this book is worth the price. It lets you in on the hardships and the triumphs of professional racing. Foggy's candor makes for an entertaining read. You'll expand your vocabulary with great Blackburn colloquialisms as well. Even if you are not a fan, you'll grow to like him for what he is, a racing legend.
