  1. If you have anything related to sports (besides baseball cards), this book is excellent. I used it for some old sports magazines from the 1950's on eBay. It was a great for getting ideas on how much things are worth.

3 comments about 19th Century Fishing Lures: A Collector's Guide to U.S. Lures Manufactured Prior to 1901.

  1. Arlan Carter's 19th Century Fishing Lures is outstanding both as a collector's guide and as a fisherman's general reading reference. Chapters document lures manufactured before 1901 and provide color photos and histories organized by manufacturer. A 'must' for the avid fisherman, and a nice gift package.

  2. This is an outstanding book for anyone who is interested in early metal, "spinner" type lures. Up until now, metal lures have been a largely overlooked and under-rated area of tackle collecting. In his book, Mr. Carter combines a wonderful collection of pictures with detailed information. This is a real gem of a book and should definitely be added to every tackle collector's reference library.

  3. I've read them all but this book is the best. Not only does it offer values and great illustrations it also provides a snapshot of the lure maker. You will be amazed at what you didn't know about these ancient lures.

3 comments about The Fred Arbogast Story: A Fishing Lure Collector's Guide.

  1. Scott Heston's THE FRED ARBORGAST STORY: A FISHING LURE COLLECTOR'S GUIDE is for any avid collector of fishing lures: it surveys both cataloged and uncataloged lures, providing good-sized color photos of both lures and packaging and blending design history insights with values. Any sports or fishing collectibles collection will want this.

  2. Excellent book, has lots of great info about the Fred Arbogast Company and the lures and items that are collectable. The print quality of some of the pictures could be better, especially the color charts, but that aside, thanks to Scott Heston for putting it together.

  3. This has to be THE best collectors guide I have ever purchased on ANY collectable, EVER! Even better than his book on Ohio fishing lures. I am so glad I bought this guide. I recently found an old tackle box full of old lures at a yard sale, one of the lures were still in it's box, both in incredible condition! (not gonna mention which lure...but it is valued at $200 in the box)...this guide helped me to recognize what an outstanding deal these lures really were at the price...I paid only $5 for the lot and was able to make quite a tidy profit off of them on eBay. The eBay tips on picture viewing (or in my case, taking) helped me to show the lures off to their best advantage...Thanks Mr. Heston!!!

1 comments about 500 Years of Golf Balls: History & Collector's Guide.

  1. I received this book as a gift from a friend because he knows how much I love to golf. He also knows I collect golf balls. This book has interesting information about the evolution of the golf ball from its earlier forms through the transformation to what it looks like today.

Did you know that there are rare golf balls worth $20,000? More interesting information like that is throughout the book. All your guests will open it up and flip through it!

I have more information about golf balls at:

2 comments about Warman's Fishing Lures Field Guide: Values an Didentification (Warman's Fishing Lures Field Guide).

  1. The size of this book is the best thing about it. You can get all the info in other books but they are big and heavy to carry around at lure shows or just out looking at garage sales. It has very good pictures and accurate info.

  2. This is an interesting book for the dealer & collector alike. Chockablock full of pictures & pertinant information on lures, one of those esoteric fields that you REALLY need a book to master.
Carl Luckey is generous with sharing information on lures. I've learned plenty owning this book - I carry it in the car & I can't wait to find the "big one". Hope springs eternal!

5 comments about Tuff Stuff's Complete Guide to Starting Lineup: A Pictorial History of Kenner Starting Lineup Figures.

  1. An outstanding reference for Starting Lineup fans. This softbound book contains 192 pages with more than 2,000 full color sharp photos of this popular collectible. There is a one page overview of all U.S. issued Kenner sets on every American released figure. In addition to the photos and prices there is adequate text covering each topic. Major topics range from Introduction, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, to Multi-Sport; and a complete index for easy reference. Each figure is shown with the original card or box packaging. A book that you'll refer to often. Add it to your library.

  2. The book was a great reference guide to, among other things, just be able to look at older Starting Lineups that you've only heard about. The history of each year and each sport included before the pictures is an added plus. Even though the prices for some pieces are now out dated, the book is a wonderful resorce.

  3. If you collect slu's and are fed up with never finding any, you might like this book as a refernce. The pictures are excellent and you can finally find out what the older figures look like. The prices listed at the bottom of each figure are a nice touch. Still, the figures are only worth what they are worth to you. A secondary dealer can charge whatever he wants and you are pretty stuck if you want the figure. If you are like me, you are waiting for this market to bottom out. I do recommend the book for the visuals though.

  4. Whether you collect SLUs or are just interested, I have to highly recommend this book. It pictures every SLU and gives current (as of printing) pricing. The people that published it have a high standing in the SLU hobby.

  5. This book simply tells you the history of kenner stating lineups. It gives a picure by picure lineup of all the slus ever produced. I think if you collect figures this is the book for you.
