1 comments about Basketball Card Alphabetical Checklist No. 1 (Basketball Card Alphabetical Checklist).

  1. Of course Beckett puts out what is pretty much considered the definitive price guide for basketball cards, which is also the place to go to if you are looking for a complete list of all the cards in a given year that you are working on (I am currently trying to finish both a 1971-72 Topps and the Fleer 1986-87). I do not have a particular need for the "Beckett Basketball Card Alphabetical Checklist, Volume 1," but I can appreciate that there are collectors who would value this book, namely those who simply want to collect all of the cards for their favorite players. True, this was a lot easier to do in the days or yore when there was just one major basketball card company producing cards each year. Now look at how many dozens of cards there are each year for a Kobe Bryant or a LeBron James. You might have been luck if your favorite player is Jerry West or Magic Johnson, but then most dealers are going to have star cards in a separate place in their stores or at shows.

The good doctor provides 248 pages devoted to basketball players from A to Z. The introduction section contains sage advice on how to collect that covers everything from obtaining and preserving your cards to the differences between collecting and investing. There is also practical advise on how to use the alphabetical checklist. The target market for this particular checklist might be relatively small, but collectors will certainly appreciate having this available (I cannot speak to investors). There are thousands of new cards coming out each year and at that end of the spectrum you are never going to catch up, but for those of us who enjoy collecting the cards of the players we watched in our younger days, this is a helpful checklist.

2 comments about The Official Beckett Price Guide to Football Cards 2006 Edition 25 (Official Price Guide to Football Cards).

  1. I was very disapointed in this item. The book skips several years. I would not recomend this item to someone who is trying to look up a large amount of cards. You will be upset when it does not have the information you need.

  2. I'll make this short and sweet. I thought this book would be helpful when going to sportscard shows. I felt I wouldn't have to carry a big book around. But this book is so superficial you are better off just taking the Monthly or Beckett Plus Price Guides. DO NOT waste your money on this book. I returned it to Amazon.

3 comments about Beckett Hockey Card Price Guide & Alphabetical Checklist (Beckett Hockey Card Price Guide, No 8).

  1. Identified EVERY card I have, and I have thousands. Each set is described, along with a listing for every card in the set. Good information on PSA grading and history of hockey cards. Can't wait for the 2000 version!

  2. This book has all the oddball and promo cards that collectors can't find values for. I have filled the ?'s in my collection on prices. It also has the checklists of all players, all-star or common. Great book, behind a great name.

  3. This book has contained prices to almost every card I own. I am from St. Louis and I have been able to find values on my Blues cards from McDonalds, my college team cards, the cards I bought in Finland, and my autographs. There is an alphabetical checklist for every player from Wayne Gretzky to Willie O' Ree to Anti Ollinen. If you have a hockey card, chances are it will be in this book.
