1 comments about Overcoming OCD and Schizophrenia with God in My Life.
- Chip Correll is in his late 20's and through medication successfully manages schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), two severe, biologically-based mental illnesses. The treatment success rate for schizophrenia is 65 percent, better than most people imagine. Central to Chip's recovery, however, is his faith in God and love for his family. The book is more than an autobiograph: it is a conversation a person with a courageous, optimistic spirit, who confronts an illness which most Americans, because of ignorance and fear, rarely ever engage (Keep in mind that many homeless people suffer from mental illnesses). The book is an expression of Chip's hopes, emotions and individuality. It may not be a best-seller, but it is authentic and interesting. Its most important revelation is that in most respects, Chip, like any person with schizophrenia, is much like any of us. He lives in Florida and owns a condo. He likes dogs. He likes to travel. He is a college graduate and former honors student. Although he must depend on Social Security Disability Income because of the severity of his illness, he volunteers writing press releases and short magazine profiles. He would like someday to work in public relations in the entertainment industry. In this work, he bears witness and speaks truths that we all should consider.

5 comments about No Magic Wands.
- I have severe pain from a bad disk in my back. The doctors don't do much and they don't really listen to me. The chapter about doctors really hit home to me. I have read that chapter 6 times and now I smile alot when my back hurts. This whole book makes me smile. Beverly S. Nichols has written a book that gives people in pain an understanding of pain, pain management, and a way for family and friends to understand too. I tell everyone to read this book. I can listen to music and not worry about me. How can I think I am so bad when I can work, shop, play with my grandchildren, and do what I want when I know there are people like Mrs. Nichols who are so limited. I wish you well Beverly.
- When I first hear about her book I knew I had to have it. No Magic Wands could have been my story with all the ups and down in it. I feel like there is SOME ONE out there who knows what it is like to have your world thrown in your face and the ability to keep on going forward. She has given me the incentive to keep my dreams alive and to go for them whenever possible. To keep on trying !!
- I was told by my son about this book. I don't read much and I didn't believe it would be possible for a book to affect people too much. We live in Canada and our son visited us from NH. He brought the book and I read it quick. Then I read it again real slow. I have MS and am in a wheelchair most of the time. I thought nothing but pills could relax me or stop me from feeling sorry for myself, and useless. Now I can see that my life ain't so bad. I can understand Mrs. Nichols' ideas better now. She is a great writer and definitely a great inspiration to people like me. I would like to give her a hug if I ever meet her because I started to stop feeling sorry for myself all the time. I also try to do things for myself instead of expecting everyone to do things for me. I also started listening to music. Now when I get upset I relax listening to classical music and slower tunes from the Big Band Era. There is so much good stuff in this book and I will read it again and again. I know a little of what Mrs. Nichols thinks and feels, but for now I can smile once in a while when I succeed at something. And I have not felt like smiling in a real long time. I wish this book could be bought in bookstores, and I wish Mrs. Nichols could sign my book - when I get it - she talks about wishes too. Maybe it will happen and maybe not but as long as I can read the book and think about my wishes and listen to some music instead of some depressing news then Mrs. Nichols has shown me a way to see myself as a real person. Thank you so much Beverly S.Nichols.
- Pain will never be as severe as previously experienced by me. This woman had such brilliant mentality, could voice her experiences and feelings so eloquently. She is a super human being. Thanks for letting me share it.
- You can't help but feel sympathy for the author as you read of her physical travails and disability. Written in a very direct and personal style, the author trys to convey a determination to overcome adversity in the face of overwhelming obstacles. In that she succeeds. A good book on chronic illness in general and for people with multiple sclerosis specifically.

1 comments about The Ghosts Behind Him.
- I began writing The Ghosts Behind Him in 1994 shortly after my son's trial on a charge of second degree murder from which he was acquitted because of his chronic mental disorder (schizophrenia.) My son Bruce was detained for 4 1/2 years at the Forensic Psychiatric Institute in British Columbia, Canada, until he was deemed well enough to be released on a conditional discharge by the BC Review Board. I equated the task of writing the book to that of having a long, painful surgery but am proud of the impact it has had on many of those who have read it. I believe it is important, for young people especially, to acquaint themselves with the symptoms of mental illness and learn how it can affect family members and in fact entire communities.
The Ghosts Behind Him was the recipient of The BC 2000 Book Award which was sponsored by the British Columbia government as a millennium year project. Funding was allocated to provincial schools which allowed them to place it on their library shelves.

2 comments about Sean: The Story of a Child's Life and Death.
- I recomend this book to anyone that has lost a loved one,it touch my heart and i will never forget Sean, and I hope anyone thinking of buying just do it and read from any page because every page shas something to offer by itself.
- SEAN touched me in many ways. First, it was scary to pick up the book and begin reading. I'm the mother of an only child who just suffered through a car accident, and I wasn't sure I could read about a child who dies. But instead, once I started this very personal journal and journey through Sean's life and then death, I found out that strength and courage are the attributes of the very special few. And Sean as well as his mother and author, Julie, are two of those rare individuals. Julie's honesty as she faced one of life's most demanding tests is brutal especially when writing about herself and her feelings. This is an important book for anyone who has suffered a loss and hasn't quite figured out how to get through it. Julie, in her directness, shows us that we are only human when we feel ourselves still mourning when everyone else has determined it is time to get over it. This book deals with the agony but also the joys of having loved and having learned to have faith in those things we cannot see or touch.

5 comments about A Legacy of Hope: Rescued from the Quicksand of Dysfunction.
- My name is Rebecca, and this is my husbands account. I wanted to take the time to share my review on this wonderful book.
Mary McCracken's, "A Legacy of Hope" is a book you will find difficult to put down once you begin. Mary opens wide the door of her life and invites the reader to experience her journey. Her candid approach in revealing her own personal struggles and how the love of Christ brought her through is like a refreshing rain of healing for whatever challenge you may be facing in your own life.
- This is an excellent book of encouragement not only for those with a dysfunctional past, but for anyone going through hard times for a season. (Don't we all at one time or another in our lives?) The truth of ll Cor. 1:3-7 is really brought out in this book; rather than mucking about in her own "Slough of Despond," the author uses her own experiences of God's comfort to her in order to comfort others in similar circumstances. Written in a very engaging manner, she draws us in to experience both her joys and sorrows. Her hope for her readers is firmly grounded, knowing that as we share in her sufferings we can also share in the comfort she was blessed with as she learned to put her trust and reliance in God.
- I have known Ray and Mary McCracken for years. I know Mary sank deep into depression over the loss of her husband. Now Mary writes this book which is such a strong testimony of the Grace of God. How God has lifted her up and now enabled her to write such a wonderful book. I would strongly remend it to anyone to read.
- I would call this a blockbuster book. It takes the reader through the horrendous downs and delightful ups of Mary's life. I found that I could not put it down once I started it. Her story is a great encourgement to
women who feel they have nothing to offer. It's full of examples of how the Lord takes someone and fills her life with purpose. You will want to pass this book along to other women, and even girls who are at the threshhold of the adult years.
- This book gives us a picture of the struggles of a young girl born into a troubled home, and how God uses people and circumstances to make her one of his children. Her insecurities don't simply vanish as she grows older; she must deal with them regularly as she encounters numerous trials. We see a woman choosing to trust and obey God rather than wallow in self-pity. Her thankful spirit and praise of God is evident throughout the book.
