1 comments about Jack & Bobby: A Story of Brothers in Conflict.

  1. I love football nostaglia, and there are few books better than this. It examines the whole careers of Bobby and Jack Charlton from birth to now. Some great stories here, especially concerning Jack.
    Highly recommended.

  1. For a lover of the game this book was just awesome. Sir Bobby is not yet done, though his days in the limelight are certainly past, this book captures many of the times, and goals, and games, that led to establishment of one of the games most brilliant and well respected managers. Watching Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United Manager, chew his gum and spit it into his right hand just a second before he shakes your hands, shows the vast difference between the two men. Both are brilliant football/soccer tacticians but only Sir Bobby is a gentleman. One of the last. An eye watering journey down memory lane. Enjoy.

  2. You might think it would be hard for a former manager of the England soccer team (and a good one at that), a former England player as well as one of the best club managers of his generation to produce a boring book about his exploits, but Bobby Robson has done just that. This has all the hallmarks of a work which was slapped down onto paper with no planning at all. We jerk around from his playing career (we never learn how he became a player) to management of Ipswich, then a backwater club in England. He wins a major European soccer title (something little short of astonishing) but gives us no idea how he did it, how he managed to inspire a collection of largely obscure players to great heights. Instead we have a boring list of "We beat this side, and then that side, and then another side" and before we know it he's in Holland, then Spain and then a chapter later he's back in England, always whining on about money. The man must be a millionaire many times over but we're treated to endless paragraphs about how he fought for the money he felt he was entitled to. In short, this is an awful book.

  1. Ok, I was into this book, I really was! Whoopi has a humorous point of view on a lot of different topics. I had to keep in mind that the book was written in 1998, but besides that it started out pretty good...then I kept reading, and reading, and reading the same thing over and over and over again.

I got a bit more than halfway through before getting really sick of her whining and complaining and just put the book down. If I want to hear whining I'll go tease my dog.

  2. I pick up this book and re- read the first chapter! I have never actually lol (laUGHED OUT LOUD) WHEN READING TO MYSELF UNTILL THIS BOOK CAME ALONG. wHOOP IS A FAVORITE OF MINE AND book IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHY THIS COMEDIAN IS STILL POPULAR AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

I still havent made it all the way through this book- not a good sign- but that first chapter is worth the entire price of the book!

  3. "THE IDEA OF eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts in this country sends a chill down my spine and a bug up my butt. As I write this, there's a proposal kicking around to cut the NEA budget down from an already-slashed $[...] million all the way down to $[...] million...."

    I reeally love Whoopi Goldberg.

I was delighted to hear more from Whoopi and this book did not disappoint me. I loved hearing about her family experiences and Christmas was really great too, heart-warming and how she duplicates their own family's idiosyncrasies to the T each year.

  4. This book is the funniest book I have read in years! If you can apprecaite Whoopie's raw honesty, this book is for you. This wise women inspires "all" people to..."keep it real". Enjoy and stay near the toilet. You will laugh so hard you'll have to pee. :)

  5. Whoopi shares her views on life and gets down to the nitty gritty of things, including bodily functions. The writing perfectly captures her tone and her voice. She sounds amazingly serious and straight-faced when she discusses farting, something that no movie star of her stature would dare discuss, but Whoopi tackles the topic with her usual aplomb and humor. Personally, I would like Whoopi to write a more extensive autobiography so we could learn more about her life and her struggle as a single welfare mother, and how she made it to the top in backstabbing, "Beautiful People" Hollywood. She must have an interesting life story to tell. This book only gives you a peek into the woman behind Whoopi, as it's very short but entertaining, especially if you're a Whoopi fan.
