3 comments about The Beer Stein Book: Illustrated Catalog, Current Prices, Collector's Information.
- Wonderful, informative book. Wish there was a COMPLETTE book on all Mettlach steins made with current values. A great reference book for any stein collector's library :-)
- I loved the layout of the steins throughout the book. I wish there was much more color photos, to display the exemplary color and brillance of these collectibles. I hope there will be an updated catalog (which is a very detailed, several hundred paged, hardcover book) very soon. I admire the craftsmanship that dates back hundreds of years.
- Beautiful illustrations throughout, price range included for all steins listed. Well worth the price. If you love steins, you can spend hours reading this book and you will refer to it often if you're a collector.

1 comments about The Legacy of Maria Poveka Martinez.
- I found the Spivey book entitled Maria to be a great asset to my library of books on Indian pottery. The multitude of close up pictures is very helpful in knowing the details of her pottery and that of her family. The easy to read narrative resulting from a personal relationship with Maria and others in the Pueblo make a very intimate kind of reading. The chapter of Maria's own statements certainly reveals the warmth of her spirit and generosity. I would recommend the book to anyone who is considering the purchase of the best in Pueblo pottery or anyone seeking identification of pottery they already have.

3 comments about Basic Wood Burning.
- This is a great book for beginners with step by step instructions. It is like she is right there with you helping you along the way. Also has pointers that any pyrographer would be able to use.
- A beginner could look in this book and see that the projects are sloppy and are not interesting. Projects could be more interesting. I have seen better.
A Basic Disappointed.
- As the Title suggests this is a book to have if you want to learn the Art of Wood Burning. This book takes you through the gear that you will need and onto doing the patterns contained in the book. Easy to read and understand ,you will be Wood Burning to your hearts delight in no time!! Teena (Sth.Aust. ,Australia)

2 comments about Tom Wolfe's Treasury of Patterns: 90 Patterns for Dog Carvers.
- I loved Bonfire Of The Vanities, it's one of the best books
of the 20th Century. A Man Full was good but not great. This
book of dog carvings was awful. I don't get it... was Tom
Wolfe trying to be ironic?
- While the drawings in this book are well done and, many times, amusing, they by no means constitute patterns for the wood carver. The are nothing more than line drawings and as such, could be found in any coloring book of dogs.
True patterns should consist of front side and back, or top views of the subject and Mr. Wolfe doesn't provide this for any of his drawings. What he offers is one view, mainly side view, of the subject, not true patterns at all. Mr Wolfe does state in his introduction that he shows only one view and that's because he prefers to work from one view, however Mr Wolfe is writing this book for the general public and most of us aren't quite as artistically inclined as Mr. Wolfe, something he should keep in mind. Also, I didn't know that the book contained drawings in the singular view until I'd order it, paid for it, received it, and read Mr. Wolfe's intro. By then it was too late. I would definitely not recomend this book to anyone who isn't an experienced carver.
