5 comments about Collectors Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain: Identification & Values (Collector's Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain).
- This book is well documented, thorough and the pictures are excellent. In addition, this book discusses the Nippon history, provides an excellent chapter on marks and backstamps with a short commentary on the different mark colors and their meanings.
I particularly liked the glossary, and cross-referenced price guide index which is placed in the back of the book yet neatly references to pages and plate #'s. Because of the extensive patterns in the Nippon history, every pattern is not in the book but I was able to identify particular shapes of pieces which I could check against marks/backstamps and the price guide to get a reasonable value range.
Any collector or dealer will suit their library well by having this book for education and reference to Nippon.
- Joan Van Patten's Nippon Porcelain focuses on Japanese porcelain, from painted vases and stamps to plates and smoking pieces. Gorgeous color photos abound.
- As part of the 5 series volume, this series contains some updates. From my previous reviews of the collection series, I've mentioned that if you are beginner, a keen buyer/seller, or an experienced collector/trader of Nippon items, then you need to have this book, along with the other series. Like the previous series, this book contains information on Nippon porcelains. It provides actual photos, and price ranges for each items featured. Nippon porcelains have their disctinctive mark, based on the year and place they were manufactured, so this book gives you what to look and watch out for, in order to identify the authencity of the item.
- Like the series 2 book, this is part of the 5 series volume. If you are beginner, a keen buyer/seller, or an experienced collector/trader of Nippon items, then you ought to get this book, along with the other series. The book contains a lot of information on Nippon porcelain collections. It provides nice photos, and price ranges on each items featured. It also gives you the marks to look and watch out for, in order to identify the authencity of the item.

3 comments about Arthur Wesley Dow and the American Arts and Crafts Movement.
- This book arrived in perfect condition, was still shrink-wrapped and sent by priority mail. The vendor could not have done better by me, the customer. The book itself contains so many of the works by Dow and others whom he influenced that it will be many weeks before I have been able to study them all. And that was the purpose of my buying this book--an opportunity to study works by master artists. What I generally learn--after careful observation of master works-- sinks in and soon establishes itself overtly; for example, I find myself more able to recognize quality or the absence of it in decorative items around me. Even my gardens benefit from the expertise that I have absorbed. So, I am absolutely delighted by the book itself and by the superior service evidenced by the seller. And thank you, Amazon, for providing the available options for purchasing this magnificent book.
- Lots and lots of visual reference material. You get to see Dow's work and then see the way his ideas and techniques bore fruit in the imaginations of his students. A perfect combination of useful text and outstanding color illustrations. This is a great example of the beautiful variety and creatifity at work during the few short years of the arts and crafts movement. Arts and Crafts was much more than a heavy dark brown Stickley table.
- This is a valuable book for anyone interested in the decorative arts, especially for understanding the impact of the respected artist and teacher, Arthur Wesley Dow within both the American Arts and Crafts movement and American visual culture. It is a book suited both for the serious academic as well as the art enthusiast. Nancy E. Greene an Jessie Poesch have achieved a fine balance between their insightful scholarly text and the beautiful illustrations of prints, watercolors, photographs, pottery and furniture by Dow and other well-known exponents of this aesthetic shcool. This is truly a visual feast, a great book all around!

2 comments about Copper Art Jewelry: A Different Luster.
- This lovely book, Copper Art Jewelry, a different lustre, shows wonderful detailed photos along with long descriptions of major designers and their works. However, as a novice collector, I find the price guide to be most disappointing. Items are listed as "good, better, and best" but the descriptions with the yummy photos give no indication if the piece is "good, better, or best." So, I am no smarter at the end of the book, than at the start.
- This book covers the major designers of copper jewelry, Rebajes and Matisse/Renoir as well as some other less well known names. There are great full color photographs throughout with accompanying descriptions. It is an important addition to the wide range of jewelry books.

1 comments about Paperwork (Phaidon Colour Library).
- I first read this book quite some years ago, and happened to find a copy just now. For a neophyte like myself, who has to work with different kinds of papers, technics and prints, it is a real blessing. Of course, if you are a trained professional on the subject, you probably already know everything it says...Anyway, if you want a book that's pretty interesting (and well made too), this is the one!

2 comments about Delftware: Faience Production at Delft.
- This Rather Large "Coffee Table Look" Book is actually has many attributes of a good textbook. It provides the reader with a rather detailed and concise history of the Delft potteries. It also contains vivid descriptions of key wares from certain periods and the popular decorative styles. It also has a very helpful area covering the much debated topic of "Boerendelftische" (peasant Delft). It has many clear and high quality photographs that really show the true colors of the pieces (unlike a great deal of the earlier books which had "technicolor" pictures). This is a invaluable aid to the serious Delft Collector, who wants to collect/learn more about Delft that just its productions of the 18th century.
- A great book for an overview of the great pieces that Delft made in the 17th and 18th century, with good and detailed descriptions. Beautiful pictures that looking stunning because of the large size of the book. A small section for used marks, but really worth while if you are interested in Dutch Delftware.
