1 comments about Salt Dough: 20 Practical Projects for the Home (Inspirations Series).
- So far I have made four of the projects in this book: a candle holder, a plate, a picture frame, and a candle sconce. There was room for improvement on my part with the candle holder, but everything else came out pretty much the way it should have according to the book. The photos that accompany each instructional step really have with projects such as these. There is also a pictoral index of the ingredients and supplies needed to complete the projects introduced. I love working with salt dough and have been giving dough ornaments as creative (and terribly cheap) Christmas gifts for two years. This book is a great beginners book for the novice artist looking to tackle a new medium to work with. It's VERY fun.

3 comments about Origami for Playtime.
- I bought this book for my 5 year old and my friends' kids.
We're very exciting to try any of them, but the instruction is difficult to
follow even for me as an adult. And you have to buy your own origami paper too.
- The book is full of bright ideas. However, I would not recommend it for the people who just start doing origami. The author sometimes skips a step so it is very confusing. I left some projects unfinished.
- Origami For Playtime by Satoshi Takagi (formerly the Director of the Japan Origami Association), uses bright colors and clear, easy-to-follow diagrams and instructions to teach young readers of all ages and cultural backgrounds the simple Japanese art of folding paper to create beautiful creatures and shapes for fun and enjoyment. Each one or two-page spread demonstrates how to make a different paper creature or thing, from a jumping frog to a flying airplane to a spiral shell and much more. A delightful introduction to this wonderful hobby, Origami For Playtime will prove a popular addition to personal, school, and community "do-it-yourself" crafts projects reference shelves.

2 comments about Mexican Churches.
- This is a book of photographs of the interiors of Churches in Mexico, and their shrines and alters, and saints which adorn them.
Porter's photographs capture a religious grace which is direct, simple, beautiful, and moving. Seeing these pictures gives an outsider into a window on a world in which life may be difficult, but heart and faith are celebrated and strong.
It contains a large colection of photos that shows the great variety and arquitectonic richness of Mexican churches, some of them are not well know, and their splendor is in certain way product of the cultural hispano-indian sincretism. The photos were taken around 1956 by the excelent photographer, landscape specialist, Eliot Porter (who quit medicine for photography).

1 comments about Limestone Lives: Voices From The Indiana Stone Belt (Quarry Books).
- I just finished reading this book...I love it. Ok, I am somewhat biased since Ms. Ferrucci selected my brother, Ned Cunningham, as one carver she interviewed. My family has been in every phase of limestone from my grandfather, to my father, step-father, and both brothers. This book really captures the real impact of limestone on peoples lives. The pictures are clean and varied. Nice job! Jean Cunningham

1 comments about The Magic of Paper Sculpture.
- I'm glad to see the price went down--$123 for this book was outrageous! It is a step-by-step guide to make the sixteen projects illustrated, so if you want specific patterns, you'd love this book. It is available in libraries, so I'd suggest checking it out there first. I didn't care for this book because it's not big on the creative aspect, unless you consider the color of paper you use as being "creative".
