1 comments about Radiant Stones/Pierres Radieuses: Archaic Chinese Jades/ Jades Archaiques Chinois.

  1. This book provides excellent photographs and information about the individual items in the author's collection. As a collector myself, the variety of Neolithic pieces, the information presented and the detailed photography make this a great study aid to help anyone learn about the patination and stylistic traits of ancient Chinese jades. A very informative book, well worth the price.

2 comments about Modeling with Polymer Clay (Artist's Library series #33).

  1. I first got this book out of the library and now that I've read it, I'm going to buy it. The book demonstrates a cartoonish but not cutesy style of sculpting. I've always wondered how to make that style of eyes and brows and it showed me exactly. Might not be the best book for someone who has never touched clay before but definitely worth reading for anyone with even a little experience.

  2. I recently discoverd this book by David Kracov and had to purchase it to see how close I could come to duplicating his sculpting technique. So far I am very happy with the results, and considering the fact that he uses a clay that I have not used in the past, I consider this a good selling point for his book. I would not recommend this book for someone just getting into clay sculpting as he leaves out some vital information (or so I believe) and some of his instructions are very vague. But if you've learned the basics of sculpting characters from another source or are a natural artist, I think you should be able to glean some very useful design concepts from this book. Mr. Kracov is very talented and I hope he publishes another book soon. I will be watching and waiting for one.

5 comments about Chihuly.

  1. I gave this book to my mom for her birthday. She is a big Chihuly fan and loved the book. It came quickly and in good condition. The pictures are beautiful and the introduction tells all about Chihuly's life and work as an artist.

  2. This book is beautiful! I visited the botanical gardens in St. Louis and saw some of Dale Chihuly's work close up. I've never seen anything like it. What an incredible art form this is. This book brings back the same feelings I had while looking at his work in person. The pictures in this book are breathtaking. The great thing about this particular book is that it has pictures of his work located all over the world. Many of the pictures have a location listed and some of them have Mr. Chihuly's comments on the piece and how he felt about creating it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a general book on his work. I have it on my coffee table in the family room and everyone who opens it up, can't put it down. Every turn of the page brings a "WOW" or "Incredible". Truly a `must have' book for your collection.

  3. I was introduced to Chihuly through a special on my local PBS station many years ago. I couldn't remember his name, but I always remembered that he was the brilliant man with the unorthodox style. His vision and his artistic talents are immense. This book is absolutely mesmerizing and gorgeous with page after page of color photos. From the "Chihuly Over Venice" project to his designs for the set of the opera "Pelléas et Mélisande" for the Seattle Opera. This book truly is a feast for the eyes and the soul. Chihuly is a master of glass and this book proves it.

  4. Among the thousands of art books on the market, Kuspit's exhaustive look at Dale Chihuly's career in glass is a bargain for the Amazon price. Filled with gorgeous color photos of Chihuly's unique work, and intelligently written, this book will grace any art lover's shelf.

  5. From the front page to the end this book you will be mesmorized. For those familiar with Maestro Chihuly's work this is a bible, for those that just come to learn about his creations this book is a must have. I feel that Dale Chihuly is one of the most talented artists of this century. His vision and creativity are so outstanding in a world of modern art sometimes too bare and conceptual. The book is an array of picture after picture of Chihuly's work. Splendid details can inspire from a decorator to a fashion designer, every page is a microcosmo of creativity. If I had to travel the universe with just a suitcase full of books, this is absolutly one of them.

3 comments about Royal Winton Porcelain: Ceramics Fit for a King.

  1. This book is the most definitive book yet to come out on Royal Winton. A bonus is the history it includes as well as the pricing. I use it as a reference book.

  2. I enjoyed reading about the history of the Royal Winton family and its pottery factory in Stoke-On-Trent. I have been a collector of chintz and the insight that this book gave me really enhanced my collecting.

    A very informative book.

  3. From the early historical photos to the images of today's Royal Winton, the book is a must-read trip back in time. So many collectors' books read more like catalogs than books. This one is a refreshing change. The author traveled to England and found an elderly couple, once residents of Staffordshire, who actually grew up in the potteries. They recalled in the book what it was like then, as children, surrounded by The Potteries. The book is full of color, and not just in the photos, but in the enormous importance the porecelain played in the common lives of the potters and in the royal lives of the King and Queen. The writer takes you inside The Potteries and shows you how the ceramics were made and explains why certain patterns were done the way they were. A must-read for not just collectors but historians too.
