  1. I bought this for my daughter to keep on her skills over the summer, but there is no answer key nor is one available anywhere. It's been many years since I've worked algebra problems so there is no way to check if she's solved the problems correctly. This was a waste of money!

  2. These problems look good, but without an answer key they're pretty useless. My algebra isn't bad, considering, but I had it 30 years ago, and so it's really not a useful tool for my daughter to review.

  3. I am a 9th and 10th grade algebra teacher. My school does not use the McGraw Hill textbook, so I can't speak to how well it supports the curriculum it was designed for. I bought it as a resource for suplemental practice worksheets. For that purpose, it's great. The worksheets assume some prior knowlege but a need to practice the fundamentals. There are a lot of similar problems, so students can gain confidence and familiarity. Buy this book!

  4. I received my order in a timely manner, and the book was in great shape.

  1. The Prentice Hall Biology course is a very good one - generally scientifically rigorous and fairly thorough. I'm currently doing the labs for my own son as well as a couple of other homeschooling teens, and it's worked out nicely. I ordered this extra lab manual for when my younger son needs it in a few years when I'll run this lab course with him. I would not try to run this lab, however, without the Teacher's Edition, which gives many tips on preparing the lab.

  1. this book was purchased at half off by the seller and i tried getting in touch with the person because the school information was misleading and i ordered the wrong book and wanted to send it back and they never responded to my email. NEVER AGAIN

  2. The book was delivered quickly and in better condition than I anticipated.
Thanks so much. I had a great online experience!

  3. Despite what Don Snyder says in his review, I've found the book to be well-written and informative for the most part. Geometry has always been and still is my favorite element of math and I enjoyed taking my high school course with this textbook. Thanks to one of the teachers at my alma mater I now have a copy of this book that was left in the computer lab.

The concept of proof is explained to some extent, but should also be supplemented with other material. The students who generally did well in proofs in my class and the other classes I've seen use this book usually went in for one-on-one help with the teacher.

There is one section of this book that seems to confuse even the smartest students, and that is the section about circles--specifically finding arcs. I didn't understand them until I consulted another textbook. Last year many people complained about that section who were using this book.

The glossary makes up for the bad section on circles. It is well-written and informative.

Another big plus is the review of algebra concepts when they are necessary to solve particular problems. The Algebra II text reviews geometry concepts in the same fashion.

Geometry isn't a math for everyone. Some people get A's in Algebra and B's in Geometry. Others are the opposite. There are also a very few people who can get an A in both (they are usually either really hard workers or are just natural geniuses). This book should help everyone get an A or B as long as they use it and ignore the section about arcs completely.

  4. Postulates, theorems, constructions: it seems that the authors do not know the difference. In this book postulates are presented as statements of fact, and used to "Prove" theorems. In chapter one, the Pythagorean Theorem is used in proofs BEFORE it is, itself proven.

Chapter 2 begins with the theorem that the sum of the internal angles of a triangle is 180°. The proof is postponed until an exercise in chapter 7, and even then is based on two postulates.

Mathematics should be presented as an orderly progression, each step building on previous lessons. The authors have striven mightily to remove all the logic and reason they possibly could from Geometry. In the 2400 years since Euclid wrote his "Elements," many have tried to improve on his work. Some have succeeded, but not the authors of THIS book.

Professor Joyce at Clark University has placed Euclid's work on the web. Search on "euclid clark university" for the website.

Seth Yoshioka-Maxwell has a website with an interactive construction of Euclid's proof of the Pythagorian theorem. Search on "Seth Yoshioka Maxwell Euclid" for the website.

  5. I used this book in my highschool Geometry class after using another popular Geometry textbook at another school. This book is the best one for students of all abilities - each lesson centers around a different aspect of a uniting theme (Chapter 1 - Circles, etc) using photographs, graphs, activities and simple, but thorough explanations. After easily helping you master the basics, each lesson then includes an advanced section for more able students which explores the subject more deeply. The best book out there! I recommend any math book from this publisher!

  1. I bought the old edition for only $10 while everyone else in my class bought the new edition for $130. There isn't really a difference in the editions. The review questions are all the same. All they did was add a couple new "HD" pictures. The other different thing is the new edition moves chapter 8 to chapter 7. So all they did was flip flop two chapters. Then comes the cd that comes with it. The cd in this edition only works on your computer as it is a cd rom, the one with comes with the new edition is a dvd, so it works with everything. So overall, you can see the differences are very small. If ever you need this book do yourself a favor and save at least $100 buying this edition instead of the new edition.

  2. I had to buy this for a class and for a textbook, it was pretty interesting and not dry. Lots of photos and charts.

  3. It took over a week to recieve and it wad wrong. I emailed the seller to return since amazon assures return policies. To this day no one has gotten back to me about how to return this item and get my money back.

  4. THIS TEXT IS A WELL WRITTEN INSTRUMENT.IT PROVIDE CLARITY AND AMPLE IMFORMATION FOR THOSE INTRODUCTURY STUDENTS IN THE FILD OF SCIENCE.

  5. Book arrived in just four days, in mint condition, and it was only $6 (plus shipping). Awesome! Fellow students paid $60 or more at the campus bookstore.

  1. This note taking book enables you to study with ease. It provides great notes and has easy note taking ability. It practically has the notes already done! You will never have to rush to grab a sheet of paper again So for people who want to succeed I recommend this book for you!! Taking notes will never be easier.

  2. If you are a homeschooling parent, or your child is taking Algebra in school and is having trouble picking out the important concepts - this is a fabulous rescource! The Student version of this guide is set-up with spaces for each section of each chapter. The student is led to identify important vocabulary, concepts and properties. Space for examples (many are already started) for the students to complete, clearly connect the example with the concept. This is hard to explain, but I can't recommend it enough!

Where is this useful - if your child is floundering in Algebra because they can't pick out the important information, or they have just never needed to take notes in math before and have no clue how - this book clearly lays out a wonderful format to help the student identify key concepts. This lesson will be valuable for the remainder of his/her time in school.

So - what is the teacher's version - same thing as the student version, except it is completed. Key concepts, vocabulary defintions, and examples are complete. For a homeschool parent - you can easily see where your child still needs help. If your child is taking Algebra in school, but is struggling, this would still be a useful tool.

My recommendation would be to get both guides - the student and the teacher - and have your child use the student guide as he/she goes through their algebra book. You can periodically do spot-checks to see that they are actually "getting" the key concepts and vocabulary.

Quite frankly, I wish they had these for every subject as I think kids today are really having a tough time taking notes.

  1. My son had to purchase this book as it was required for school. It had some bad reviews on Amazon, but what can you do? He was required to have it. He tells me the reviewers were correct, this is a bad textbook and students should supplement their study with other Biology books, as we have. Don't buy this unless you have to!

  2. I'm a sophomore at the University of Michigan that has taken introductory biology courses both in high school and in college. Recently I helped my high school freshman niece with her biology reading from this textbook. I can't believe such a poorly-written book is being used in classrooms.

The book is poorly organized, even within individual paragraphs. Some sections seem as if a coherent paragraph was written, then someone randomly copied and pasted groups of sentences around until the text became as confusing as possible. Complicated concepts are confusingly presented without adequate explanation. Arcane details are given more attention than the overall concepts. There were many sections where I'd have to reread the text multiple times before I finally grasped what the authors were attempting to convey.

I think it's pathetic that anybody should be introduced to biology with a book this confusing and frustrating. Biology is NOT this confusing, and it's certainly more interesting than the authors make it out to be. This book isn't just useless; it's counterintuitive.

  3. out teacher is sick and we have a permanent substitute. I find this book confusing and the teacher doesn't do a very well job at explaining it. There are plenty of facts and information, just too much at one time. I suggest making a photocopy of the pages you are reading and highlighting the facts to study...

  4. I agree that the book was confusing. I would not recommend it. Even with help from teachers, I did not fully grasp the information taught to me.

  5. As a honors biology student I am very good in science and genraly like all of the books that I have used. I would say, with out a doubt, this is perhaps the worst textbook ever written. The concepts are explaind so poorly and unclearly all they can do is confuse a student. The language is written as a college level textbook. I would encouarge anyone consdiering this textbook to look for a new one. You could not do any worse. Even teachers can not understand this book.
