5 comments about Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1 (The Twilight Saga).
- When I picked up my copy, I was blown away by the drawings. I appreciated how close the manga followed the story, but didn't repeat it 100%. The story was depicted very well in a manga format the move it along smoothly.
My biggest gripe from the whole volume was the use of photographs in a lot of the backgrounds. I am an art student and I learned how to take photographs and apply filters to them to make them very comic/cartoonish, but there is no replacement for photographs and actual drawings of backgrounds. While Young Kim did her best to blend the two together, it was hard to look past the placement of the characters into a photograph.
A few panels showed obvious signs of a drawing placed in a photo because they characters stuck out like paper dolls. The scene the was the most bothersome was Bella's dream about Edward and the Quileute Wolves, the wolf was obviously a photograph. Later when Bella is the forest thinking about that dream Kim tried drawing over a photo and it was obvious a photo with a drawn version of fur over the muzzle and the mouth of the wolf.
If Kim had drawn the background herself I would have found the manga even more enjoyable. However, because of the use of photographs, I found them very distracting with the character detached from the scene instead of part of it.
I'm more of a 2.5/5, I would have given a 3 at the least, however, after giving up how many times photos were used it's a 2 on Amazon, 2.5 personally.
- I'm new to the Twilight series. Just watch Twilight DVD#1 last week and finished reading the Novel#1 and this graphic book yesterday.
This graphic novel is definitely beautifully illustrated. But, it's too rush and missing lots of the original and essential plots and conversation. It does not cover the entire Novel#1 either.
If you have extra money to spend, buy it. Or, just borrow from your friends or the local libraries if they have it. I will not spend money on it since it does not tell a good story of the original(even though Ms. Meyer herself instructed the story line page by page behind it).
Don't expect too much because any graphic book has its limitation. However, I would still give it 4 stars since it's still a beautiful book. Other than that, just read the original novels and then watch the DVDs.
p.s. I know there is Japanese graphic version of this Twilight series authorized by Ms. Meyer. I'm looking forward to the Janpanese version (translated into English later, hopefully) since they have the tradition to do a thorough story line, at the same time, still give you room for imagination.
p.s. Agree with the Review on June 10, 2010. It said " it's almost like reading a "cliff's notes" version of the story. Furthermore, she(refers to Bella) is far too conventionally pretty. And all the other characters are drawn so much alike that I had a great deal of trouble telling them apart. I think I'll stick with the original novel. "
- I saw this book at the library and had to pick it up for my son...He was wondering what I saw in the book series and saw Twilight but hasnt seen the other two yet...I didnt even know about the graphic novel at all until I saw it at the library...
So far, he seems to like it alot...I have yet to sit and read it myself, although I have read all four of the regular books..I might read the graphic novel at some point, but for me, Im not into the "comics" but my son loves them & the graphic novels and so thats what I pick up for him...
If you have kids or know any one who are "iffy" readers...and may want to read the Twilight Saga...This may be the way to go...
:-)
- Oh can't wait for Volume 2 I hope they do it i will be pre-ordering like everything else with Twilight the author she's a genius, the artist of this book out of this world the artist very gifted person looking forward to another volume please, recommend to everyone who's a fan of Twilight and who like comics it different in a very good way.
- Even readed all the Twilight Saga and watched the three movies I was amazed by the story, the draws and the feelings that this graphic novel brought to me. Everyone who is a fan must have one and keep it as a treasure and a memory of a great great story.

- This book is amazing! The characters are stunning, the ideas mind boggleing, the storyline excellent, and the thought process is the perfect compination of interesting and sleep depriving. Orson Scott Card has an amazing tallent. If you haven't read this then you need to because it is absolutly fabulouse! I'm not really into SF but this book just pulled me in hook, line, and sinker! Weather you like fiction, non fiction, mystery, or history this is the book that'll wedge itself in your brain till the day you die! Just read it and see for yourself!
-S.R.S-
- You might have arrived here because this book is such a widely acclaimed science fiction title (Nebula and Hugo awards). You might have come because a friend urged you to read it (and maybe even gave you a copy). You might be interested because it has such a vast number or rave reviews here on Amazon. Reading the synopsis however, you wonder if you'll relate to a child character or, if you're not a sci-fi aficionado, you wonder if it will really be your cup of tea.
Well, as you can see by perusing these reviews, a great many of which are written by people who do not usually read sci-fi and noting the intensity, joy and emotion with which people praise the book, I think you can take a chance that it very likely will be your cup of tea.
I only read a bit of sci-fi and mostly like books full of action that keep me turning pages, I was a little skeptical myself, but this book satisfied me on every level. it had the elements of an exciting thriller, the characters are memorable, appealing and well drawn, it made me think (without being pedantic or heavy) and I enjoyed the crisp writing style. The best novels for me are the ones that create the most vivid self-created mental pictures and this is one of the best of this kind that I've ever read. There's nothing like that buzz of a whole world which you have created in your mind with the aid of an author who knows just how much framework to provide for you.
As if you needed me to add to the resounding chorus of praise you can see here on Amazon, I'd say if you're unsure, take the plunge. You will simply never forget Ender and I think this is simply a superb novel.
- LOVE it. fantastic. creative. Takes you somewhere else, and even after the last page, and after several months, you can still catch yourself lingering in the place this book crafted in your memory.
- This book is a classic, sci-fi or otherwise. I read it the first time many years ago and have lost count of how many times I've read it. I gave it to my teenage son, who is also a self-professed nerd and sci-fi fan, and he loved it. He said he couldn't believe that I had "held out" on him for so long. The ending will totally blow you away. This book is not to be missed
- I was first told to read this book about fifteen years ago, but didn't get around to it until this past week. The author paints a picture of the earth that is still futuristic almost forty years after the book was published. The description of the Internet long before there was a mainstream Internet is fascinating. How did Card know what was coming? The battles fought by Ender, both real and in practice at Command School are insightful and make for good reading. I don't tend to read sci-fi, but as this book is one of the originals of the sci-fi genre and the author is LDS, I finally agreed it was time to read. I'm glad I did.

5 comments about The Sisters Grimm: Book Eight: The Inside Story (Sisters Grimm, The).
- I've been reading this series along with my 9 year old, who loves them! It's an excellent series, which I highly recommend. Compared to the other books in the series, this one is a little dispointing because it does NOT take place in Ferryport Landing and many of our favorite characters are noticeably absent....however, neither my daughter or I could put the book down and are anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series.
- Sabrina and Daphne Grimm will do anything to get their baby brother back from the Master who stole him - including following the Master into the Book of Everafter. The book contains all of the world's fairytales and Sabrina and Daphne travel through several fairytales in search of their brother. But they have more than the Master to worry about - as they travel, they inadvertently change the story lines of several stories, much to the dismay of the Editor. The Editor is determined to keep the fairytales as they were originally written and sends his revisers to correct the stories - and the revisers won't stop for anyone in their way - even Sabrina and Daphne.
Michael Buckley continues to weave a magical story line in "The Inside Story", the eighth book in his delightful "The Sisters Grimm" series aimed at ages 9 to 12. He pulls out all the stops here by having Sabrina and Daphne enter the Book of Everafter. Part of the fun is revisiting several stories/fairytales such as "The Wizard of Oz", "Alice in Wonderland", "Pinocchio" and "The Jungle Book" (to name a few) and seeing how various characters act when the plot deviates from the book. There is also a sense of surrealism as some of the characters in the Book of Everafter live in Ferryport Landing and are completely different there than they are in the Book of Everafter. Daphne and Sabrina continue to grow as characters. Sabrina in particular is maturing (preteen girls will no doubt sigh over the "romance" in the book). Buckley has a delightful sense of humor that shows throughout the book (I'd love to know the back story of the editor character) and a wonderful way with words which shows in sentences like "(the Tin Man's) steely expression turned to fear". My one disappointment in the book is that it sometimes feels like filler, as it focuses mostly on Sabrina, Daphne, and Puck while other major characters in the series, like their parents, grandmother, and uncle as well as the residents of Ferryport Landing are barely in it at all. However, judging by the cliffhanger ending they all play a prominent part in the next book in the series.
"The Inside Story" is a delightful fantasy for readers of all ages.
- I was really looking forward to reading the next book after the cliff hanger in book 7.
I was ready to read about Puck and Sabrina's blooming relationship, finding the baby brother and stopping the Scarlet hand. The journey through the storybook is not as exciting as i wanted to be, it was kinda of tedious going through the stories i already knew waiting to get mirror. The editor and his revisers were not a great threat to Puck and the Grimm Sisters, so it just seemed like another ingredient in a soup. The secret marriage between Puckabrina is now known, which makes it a little less thrilling, there is not much teasing and not enough one-on-one time between Puck and Sabrina as i expected.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Sabrina, Puck and Daphne chase Mirror (head of the Scarlet Hand) and their baby brother into the storybook of everafters, where Pinocchio and Mirror try to change their story to get out of Ferryyport Landing and grow up to be a real man. As the Grimms and Puck travel through and change each Everafter story they are threatened by annoying characters that persist to sticking with the storyline, even if they are fated to death, so they won't be revised by the Editors and his man-eating revisers. Unfortunately, some characters of stories don't want to go back living the same way over, and over again, and offer help to capture Pinocchio and his puppets. Puck, the Grimms and Everafter characters catch mirror and rescue the baby; only minutes later revisers come to fix the changes made to the story where Sabrina must give Mirror back the baby in order to save their lifes. Sabrina becomes more sensitive knowing the danger she is putting everyone in and regrets most of her decisions which cause her to be unlike herself. Puck becomes very sensitive and protective over Sabrina, knowing they are married in the future, throughout the book he is suggesting wedding plans. Granny Relda, Henry and Veronica Grimm find their kids and persuade the Editor entry into the forbidden story, Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. Mirror then travels to his story, and finds the Wicked Queen; where she transports Mirror's body into the baby's, and then Granny Relda sacrifices her body as a vessel for Mirror's spirit. Mirror brings a "dangerous character" our from the margins, Atticus Charmine (brother to William or Billy). Puck eats the poisoned apple and can only be awaken by a kiss from one who truly loves him (Sabrina). The story has changed too much and the story is torn apart, probably affecting the future, and the Grimms have to escape the story before their history is demolished. Henry and Veronica Grimm return with their son.
- This is an excellent fantasy/adventure series for the young and the young at heart. Book eight has started to answer some of the questions that surfaces over the course to the story line. We are all waiting for the conclusion which should be in the next book. Two thumbs up!
- My daughter and I have read this series together since book one. She is thirteen now, and we're still having fun with the adventures of the Grimm girls. We loved the travels through the different stories. Can't wait until the next one!

5 comments about The Van Alen Legacy (Blue Bloods, Book 4).
- I've read the hole series and i have to admit that i liked this one better, i guess the previous ones had, for me, way too many descriptions not of the characters but of their brands and stuff they wore. This one took you to the story and involved you in it. Loved it!
- I liked the first two books in the series, the third one was OK, but this fourth book in the series just went totally downhill.
Schuyler and Oliver are on the run and have been so for a year from the NY Conclave. We don't even get to see what has happened during this whole year. We're just told it's a year later. And each chapter is named after certain character, mostly the three girls: Schuyler, Bliss and Mimi and tells us what each of them have been up to.
I lost interest immediately in the beginning of the book when I read that Bliss had been out of school for an entire year, and nobody was suspicious of her. I mean, this girl was once under investigation for being a Silver Blood and all, but nothing happens when she misses school for one year. OK? And, oh yeah, Bliss is possessed by the devil whom she calls "the Visitor." WTH? Just very weird and all. She doesn't even try to warn anyone when Lucifer lets her get control of her body after a whole year. Get this, instead she opts to go to the salon to get her hair done and do pilates? Like really? This after she knows that she killed the so-called love of her life, Dylan, while she was possessed. Again, WTH?
Speaking of the Silver Bloods, what will they do after they drink every last Blue Blood? There are only 400 hundred Blue Bloods in existence, and many have died because of the Silver Bloods. And we are told that Silver Bloods cannot drink Red Bloods because it would harm them. They can only drink from other vampires. So what will they do when they run out of Blue Bloods? It's just another bizarre fact out of many that is added in the series, which really doesn't make much sense. These things ought to be better thought out.
Now let's get to Mimi who is now a Venetor and hunting the bad guys with Kingsley and two other Blue Blood twins. They're two male twins, so I guess no bonding for same sex vampire twins? She is also developing a crush on Kingsley, which seems forced and stupid. It is just a way to find a happy ending for all the characters in the story in the end. Lame. And they sleep together and then he ends up sacrificing himself. But who knows? Giving the author's need to give everyone a happy ending, Kingsley will probably come back. Again, lame.
Finally, let's get to Schuyler, who is the main character in the series and has got to be one of the most unlikeable characters ever. I don't see anything about her that would make her an unique character. Heck, her nemesis, Mimi, is more likable than her. She is stupid and has no pride. I mean, this is the same girl that was in love with Jack and sneaking around with him while he ignored her plenty of times and was still with his vampire soulmate, Mimi. For all intents and purposes, she was the "other woman." Very stupid. And how is that supposed to be romantic? Leaving your soulmate for someone new? How does that work then? That a person has more than one soulmate? If Schuyler ends up being with Jack in the end and Mimi with Kingsley, this series will suck even more. But it looks like that is where the author seems to be going with this. There is also no chemistry whatsoever between her and Jack. Jack seems like a jerk and her friend, Oliver, who is in love with her is really the nicer guy. Plus, Jack used to be in love with her mother? Really? Ewwwwww. Maybe he only likes her because she reminds him of her mother, Allegra. No girl would want to be with a guy that used to be in love with her mother. Schuyler needs to get this info pronto. She's so clueless. And we are led to believe that this is the idiot that is supposed to save the day and everything? It's just very far fetched and all.
This book really sucked from beginning to end. I was disappointed because the first two books were really good. But now it's become very predictable and stupid. It's obvious which ending the author is angling for, and it's a lame one where all the main characters will get a happy ending.
Save time and money by not bothering to read this travesty of a novel.
- This book was awful! I was so excited when it came out because we would learn about Allegra and more and was sorely dissapointed. She completely went in another direction and destroyed the series...dissapointment.
- I enjoyed this book because it goes more into the history of the Blue Bloods. However, this is an angsty teen novel series and if that is not what you are looking for... I really enjoy the relationships and drama. It is a great fun summer read.
- So I was behind the ball in reading this book, The Van Alen Legacy, but I finally did, and I'm glad. I'll start this review by giving you a brief history about my time with this series. I bought the first novel and didn't enjoy it, but because I was attached to Schuyler and her love triangle I decided to continue reading. Now done with the fourth book in the series, I believe the story has grown. I really enjoy the path it's gone and I really enjoy the story.
In the fourth installment the book takes place a year after the evens in Rio (from the third novel) and is written from three key character's points of view: Bliss, Schuyler, and Mimi. When we hear from Bliss we see her character dealing with the fact that she harbors a demon inside herself. She has to deal with that situation, and how she could try to overcome it. Schuyler had to run away with her best friend to try and save herself and attempt to save the coven from the evil Silver Bloods that are trying to overthrow the Blue Bloods, while dealing with her conflicting feelings between her best friend Oliver and her true love Jack. And lastly Mimi is on a mission to find the Watcher who disappeared, kidnapped, and then is thrown back into school while dealing with her duty to bond with Jack, of follow her heart and be with Kingsly.
I have been a critic of this series since I bought the first book a few years ago. I didn't like the writing style, and I didn't like the characters. My feelings have actually changed since that first fateful reading. I feel the author has grown as a writer, or maybe I've just grown as a reader. In any case, out of all the novels in the series, I enjoyed reading this one the most. I have a feeling it was because of the split attention, being able to know what is going on all around, rather than a solitary focus on Schuyler.
My one criticism of the story is that the reader is not always aware of the timeline because it jumps from person to person. The only way you are able to know what time has passed with when the characters explicitly state it's been such and such time since when such and such event happened. Sometimes I was confused, but for the most part I was able to make it through because the plot was compelling.
Overall this book was a great read, and by far the best in the series.

5 comments about Stardust.
- Described as "an utterly charming fairy tale in the tradition of The Princess Bride and The Neverending Story," Neil Gaiman's Stardust is an extremely bewitching and absolutely addictive story that will have you turning pages well into the night to discover what will become of Tristan and the star. The magic contained within the pages of Stardust makes for a fantastic fairy tale for adults.
Neil Gaiman has created a motley cast of characters in Stardust - witches, fairies, gypsies, ghosts, sprites, unicorns and of course, the star. Our hero Tristran Thorne sets out on his quest and is quickly swept up in the adventure of his young life. Tristran is honorable and kind - a charming and extremely likable character. Surrounded by a cast of intriguing eccentrics, Tristran must retrieve the star in order to win the hand of the fair maiden Victoria.
Gaiman has conceived an entire world of wild enchantment and intrigue. With a swift moving plot, fully developed, realistic characters, and a captivating setting, Stardust is a beautiful and timeless story, sure to charm even the surliest of readers. Stardust is a creative and witty read, full of surprises around each and every corner.
- I saw the movie Stardust and was interested in reading the book to hope for a better story because everyone always says books are better than movies. And the book had some variations from the movie, but overall it was pretty similar. Some parts were a tad slow though and honestly I didn't think the book was really better than the movie. They were just different. I still think the book was worth reading, and definitely so if you haven't seen the movie.
- Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the movie first... I couldn't help making comparisons as I was reading it. It was a good story, lots of imagination and originality. Also, the writing style was clear and entertaining to read. But, the love story was kind of lacking, with point A to B with no stops in between. The ending was also anticlimactic. It wasn't a bad book at all, but not my favorite fantasy novel either. I give it 3.5 stars.
- Adults deserve good fairy tales, too ~Neil Gaiman.
I have trouble being honest and critical with a well written book. Someone like Gaiman, in all his work so far, is able to create a world and characters that just pull you in and don't let you go. He is able to create the myths that make me suspend disbelief and the critical and writerly mind and just let go.
He does it here in _Stardust_. I have nothing to add in terms of the conflict or the characters because I lived and interacted with them. Books like this remind me why I loved reading so much when I was younger, before I sucked all the fun out by going to graduate school. Perhaps the resolution was telepgraphed to the reader, but that only comes out on reflection. Go get everything he's ever written, and remind yourself why you liked reading too.
We deserve good fairy tales, and we get them from Neil Gaiman. Thank you Neil.
- Slightly shocked when I came across a ...explicit scene at page eleven. Good book besides that.

5 comments about The Pirate King: Transitions, Book II.
- Fans of Salvatore will find plenty of sword-and-sorcery battles and action to enjoy in this book. Drizzt is still the philosopher-warrior par excellence. It's well-written, but deeply cynical and bleak. The novel details the tragic fall of Captain Deudermont, a virtuous, optimistic man who wants to change the world, in this case the pirate city of Luskan, for the better. However, the forces of good are not just overwhelmed by the bad guys -- they are foolish puppets manipulated from the very beginning towards the puppet-masters' dark ends. The drow mercenary band leading from the shadows seemed invincible and hyper-competent. Perhaps Salvatore intends some metaphor towards the perils of nation-building in the real world's politics; I don't know. In any case, I did not enjoy the book; it has killed my desire to continue reading future additions to the Drizzt series. Tread lightly here or you might become as disenchanted with Drizzt and Salvatore as this book made me.
- I was told this was a new book when i bought it. When it arrived it had cracks and the corners where damaged as if it had been read a few times.
- As a long-time fan of Salvatore, having been hooked by "The Crystal Shard" when it was first published, I picked up "The Pirate King" with high hopes, but fairly quickly became bored and disinterested. To the point where even though I am now most of the way through the book, every time I think of picking it up to finish it, I can not find a compelling reason to actually do so. Then I go play video games instead.
There are numerous issues with the story that contribute to my intense disinterest: much -- if not most -- of the novel seems to focus on the antagonists and their interminable mysterious plotting that, really, who cares? Done well, it might have worked. Unfortunately, it only gives the whole story an unfinished, jumpy feeling, as though we are reading two or three entirely different novels mashed up together and with a number of important chapters removed.
Similarly, much of the novel focuses on characters who are not the main protagonists of the series, but secondary characters from previous novels or entirely new characters, all of whom suffer from terminal under-development. Indeed, the main focus seems to be on characters we barely know and do not care much about either, who have not been (and are not) fleshed out enough /for/ us to care about, most of whom receive what I can only describe as a "series of cameos" instead of fully realized development, as though these barren slices will somehow make us care about them, what they are doing, or what happens to them. In short, readers are treated to little more than prose-laden descriptions of a series of events happening around pieces of cardboard with faces painted on them.
It seems like, and feels so obvious I can not imagine this not being the case, Salvatore is being forced to follow along a particular script and tell about various world events in the Realms, rather than having free reign to continue to develop the usual protagonists and tell their stories.
I say that as he finds these interesting plot points he could go places with, then abandons them to limbo in order to tell a story that is not about the main characters, in a city the main protagonists do not really have any reason to care about (nor are they given any compelling one), and a war they are only barely involved with and interact with in a limited way (and even that seems circumstantial and so comes off as forced...a sort of "What should we do today? I know, let's go fight in a war!" feeling). This results in book about a war and its after-effects, but not really (in a bad way, not in a clever "symbolism" way), and so the war and evil plotting ends up being just a thing that is happening readers are not given a real reason to care about one-way-or-another.
All told, it is poor storytelling, even for a D&D novel (heck, it's on par with the usual "storytelling" found in a /game/ of D&D, and that's saying something), especially from Salvatore, who actually is better than that.
I have felt for a while that Salvatore is burning out on writing the Drizzt characters. Yet those plot points I mention him abandoning to limbo tell me he is not done with them yet, that there are still stories to tell with them, if only he would DO so.
- I liked this book for the most part. It wasn't Salvatore's best work, but there hasn't been much the man has written that I don't like. The book is a little slow to develop, but once it gets going, it is hard to put down.
- I'm a huge fan of Salvatore and pretty much have all his books that include Drizzt the dark elf. Unfortunately, this book was a dissappointment. The story was fast paced, which I don't mind at all. However the story just seemed rush and disconnected at many points thru out the story.

- i love to read the books with vampires. this book was absolutly PERFECT. i would recomend this to everyone
- If your looking for a badly written cliched-up-to-your ears book, than this one is defiantly for you. I'm the kind of person who sticks with books even when I don't really like them, this one, no... That just wasn't going to happen. I'll give you, the first chapter was ok, with the main character (a hot goth girl that the popular boy is obsessed with and is obsessed with vampires herself (is she 6!!)) plays some "high jinks" that one could describe as slightly amusing and you can't really judge a book by the first chapter, so I let that slide and hoped for the best, but it was ALL downhill from there. She met this boy who had just moved into an old mansion up her street. Then she goes all creeper and she starts kinda dating him, then when she gets a hickey, she gets all freaky and she and her extra-cool-goth-best-girlfriend take pictures of it and hang them up. Thats about as far as I got, there was a bit more that I read, but it's not even worth saying here because it's so pointless. If you just want a sum up of this book, it's not worth your time or money, my advice? Don't read it...
- Oh my god,
This book actually had me laughing my head off it was just that bad. The writer clearly has no idea what she's doing... Never have I seen a book with so many exclaimation points, its ridiculous, like every second sentence whether its "hello" or "help" ends in an exclaimation point.
Raven is a complete joke, I thought I must have been reading a parody she was so unbelievably cliched and trite. Raven is a spoiled, narcissistic brat who if she were my friend I would slap. She judges everyone on what they wear and yet whines and about how people judge her for her black 'gothic' outfits.
The romance. Frankly hilarious. I am a sucker for vamp romance, especially in the YA genre. I started with twilight and from there I pretty much read anything I could find like it. DO NOT BUY VAMPIRE KISSES unless you want an example of truly terrible writing and laughable plot. Her main love interest is a cliched vampire dude who pretty much loves her for no reason at all. He is in love with her from the moment he catches her breaking into his house. Also, he doesnt have any personality. He walks around graveyards and talks to his dead grandmother and loves bats.... oooooh wonder whats his big secret.
At one point Alexander gives Raven a love bite and she spends the whole next day with her token hillbilly friend trying to see if she had been turned into a vampire.
I cant begin to tell you how much you shouldnt waste your money on this. I bought it and it was such a mistake. Id sell it but I just couldnt do that to some poor unsuspecting person.
This book is unspeakably lame. Try the morganiville vampire series if you want good young adult vamp lit.
- I know it sounds cheesy, but when I got to the end of Vampire Kisses, I wanted more. It moved at a fast past and it was an easy read. I read the Kindle edition, the first Kindle book I've ever read, though it was through the Kindle Application on my iPod Touch. There was a lot of foreshadowing and at times predictable, but overall, I thought if a good read. And the ending was unexpected. Vampire Kisses is the beginning of a series and I will go back to read others. Nicely done Ellen.
- For those who loves vampire books should read this book along with the other books that follow!!

- Equilibrium took off perfect. Everything was perfect in Arizona's world. She has the life she always wanted, a family she loves, and a perfect relationship. What more could she ask for? Answers.
Arizona has been through a lot of things in the past few months. More than anyone could ever imagine. After a life that Arizona thought could not have gotten any worse than it was... It did. If finally enjoying your life after such a change is a bad thing, just imagine getting kidnapped. Yes you can say things have just gotten worse for Arizona.
Imogen Rose certainly surprised me! Not only do we get to meet some more characters, but we actually get a few answers! Which was very exciting for me :D But then again, we get more questions in which we want answers. Im just glad there are more books coming in the series! Of course there were many twists and turns once more in the second book in the Portal Chronicles.
Im not going to give anything away that I haven't already said. All I can say is that Equilibrium was more than I ever imagined and very very addictive. The characters became closer yet separated in different ways. Once more Rose had me feeling close to these characters and dying for more.
- This book is great! I loved Portal but Equilibrium was even better! The ending was so unexpected that it has you biting your nails until the next book is released. Definately would recommend this series to everyone to read!
- so far portal and equilibrium are the best..i love it!!!I can't wait for the 3rd book..QUANTUM.thank you Imogen Rose for writing a very interesting time travel story. i really enjoyed it. by the way, Arizona u can have kellan..David is mine...lol!!!
- I read the first book in this new series about a week ago. PORTAL (Portal Chronicles) is an intelligent but easy to read time travel tale. There are already many fine reviews for Portal available - I don't have anything else original to add to those. I will say that I was quickly immersed in story and enjoyed reading it. I liked the book so much so, in fact, that I quickly purchased the second book, Equilibrium. I was immediately (on the first page) hauled back into the lives and escapades of the Darley/Stephens family. I actually liked Equilibrium even more than the first book Portal. In this book additional characters were introduced and some of the time travel questions were answered in more detail. In Equilibrium, Arizona seems to have matured and grown - for me, she was a more likable character while still maintaining her natural inquisitiveness and quirks. I particularly liked the introduction of the Wanderers, most especially Gertrude the beloved family pet. I am looking forward to the next book, Quantum. The escapades will continue (I hope) as we discover more fun and nail-biting adventure through the Portal.
- Arizona Darley or Arizona Stevens, that is the question.
I loved the first book. I read alot of series, but I always hestitate because you can really get into a book to find out that it's going to have a cliffhanger, make you come back to the next book, and then that book is nothing like the first. This book didn't disappoint. It was much like the first with additional twists and turns, more cliff hangers, and a few "omg" moments. Don't ask me why, but I love the young audience genre. However, I love the genre more when they aren't all boxed into that category. This series transcends that. It's a very light, paranormal/time travel sci-fi book series that any one of any age could really enjoy. I love the added Elders and what that story line is adding to this book. I will definitely be purchasing the next one in the series. There are still alot of secrets and discoveries to be made as a reader of this series!

5 comments about Daniel X: Watch the Skies.
- this is a book i would reccomend for someone who wants a book that is different but addicting! i loved this book! when i found out about the series i thought it would be dumb but i was proved wrong best alien-book series i have read.
- James Patterson tries to do the Harry Potter thing and it works. Characters are interesting and enchanting. Multiple books about the same character are out. All are worth your time and money. These books read very fast. You won't want to put them down.
- Daniel X is a teen-age alien hunter with some special powers of his own. He rides a motorbike and can do wheelies on his front tire. He has four imaginary friends, but unlike most kids, he can materialize them and they often help him out when he needs help, or just keep him company when he needs company.
The town of Holliswood is being taken over by aliens - from outer-space. These particular aliens are able to manipulate the radio waves, and t.v. stations to control humans. They also like to eat humans, after they make them dance around, filming them for entertainment. The head alien is a director. Even though there are some horrific things that happen to humans, the way it's written it's not very graphic or gross. Most teens have watched plenty of movies and shows that contain much worse than is shown in this book.
Daniel X needs to find a way to stop the aliens from taking over the town, and eventually the whole world for the purpose of filming, eating and using the world and it's inhabitants as entertainment for the rest of the universe. But the alien in charge of this epic project, (alien no. 5) seems to always be one step ahead of Daniel X, and in fact is planning to use Daniel in the finale of the series that he's filming. Daniel X meets a young girl and her strange parents. He is has quite a challenge solving this crisis, things go wrong but he perseveres.
I found the narrative of this book interesting, and the dialogue between characters was pretty good. There's some snarky dialogue between aliens and Daniel X, and intelligent dialogue between Daniel X and his friends/family. Though gross things are happening, there isn't over the top descriptions, but there is enough to keep a teen or tween interested in the story. Daniel X also is not a do it yourself type of hero, he takes advice and help from his friends...although they are a product of his imagination. Maybe because it's written from the pov of a teenage boy, one who has been hunting aliens, but there doesn't seem to be much to his personality - there's a little history we learn as we read, and little things he quips. He seems to care about animals and humans. It's just not very in depth - the presenting of his personality.
This was a cute, light/horror sci-fi book. The only thing that kind of got to me, was more the set up of the book. There are 91 chapters in this 251 page book. How can that be, do you wonder? most of these chapters are two pages long. As in half of one page (the beginning of the chapter) and half or a little over half of the second page (that would be the ending of this epic chapter). So really, I believe this book could have been condensed into 125 pages (approximately). I don't know if the authors meant for the book to be set up this way as a dramatic way of separating scenes, or if this was done to "flesh out" the book. There were quite a few of the 2-page chapters that could have been combined. A few of the chapters were really a continuation of the previous chapter. That's my only complaint of the book, and it's not anything to do with content or writing talent.
Overall this is a entertaining book, a light read even with the horror aspects.
- I enjoyed this book... alot! The only thing I can say about this book is it was kind of short. Maybe Patterson can write a longer book next time.
Apart from that, it was exciting from the beginning to the end. I cant complain about the writing becuase I couldn't write any better, anyways.
If I got a chance, I would change the title. What would I change it to? I'm not sure. But "Watch the skies" doesnt really go with the storyline that much. Thats mainly because the aliens are catfishlike, which are in the water, right? Well, they are in space, which is in the sky, I guess... whatever.
ANYWAYS, I think this was a really fun filled book with alot of excting parts! I reccomend this book to everyone.
