- Instructions for making ribbon flowers are easy to follow with many diagrams and written instructions. Photographs give ideas for many flowers and ribbon types.
- Helen Gibb is a master of Ribbonwork and does a superb job of providing great instructions in this book. The binding allows the book to lie flat so that both hands are available to work on the techniques. The projects are lovely, romantic and useful.

5 comments about The Artful Ribbon: Beauties in Bloom.
- I have not found too many things I could duplicate in this book. This kind of ribbon art is a little more complicated than I expected.
It's still a nice book. A person more experienced with working ribbon would probably enjoy it more than I.
- I hsve not tried any of the projects yet but the directions are incredibly clear and the book is also beautifully illustrated. This is new to me but with the great instruction and stunning pictures, can't wait to begin creating these blooms.
- Great book that I would recommend to anyone wanting ideas to make flowers out of ribbon.
- This is the first time I've tried ribbon work and had no difficulty following the directions. It was so easy to understand what to do, and how to do the flowers. Mine all came out lovely at the end!
The illustrations are beautiful and inspiring and there are no set projects and directions as to which color/size of ribbon to use and how to put your finished flowers together, it will really work your imagination and creativity - I really like that aspect of the book! I also like her Ribbon Width formula (RW) better then if I was given a specific width of ribbon, because I can use any ribbon from my stash to make flowers out of.
There's nothing to stand in the way of your imagination here, yet you'll get enough guidence as a beginner to know what to do, what supplies to buy and what they look like! The only thing I had to research on the internet is the type of ribbons and where to buy them from (she has a list of suppliers at the back of the book but they are all mailing addresses, no websites because the book came out in 1996). It took only a short time to find suppliers on the net who sell a variety of good quality ribbons like Soft Edge: silk, velvet, pleated and hand dyed ribbons and Wire Edge: rayons in variegated, ombre, organdy. But this was only a small inconvenience.
I was sorry to see this book is out of print - buy a used copy like I did, you won't regret it!
- This is a ribbonwork book that demonstrates how to create dimensional (3D) flowers with ribbon.
AND WOW!, WOW!, WOW! - WHAT A BOOK! The Artful Ribbon is worth buying just for the gloriously beautiful photos which are high quality. BE WARNED though - you won't be able to resist having a go at one of those gorgeous flowers once you have even peeked at the inside pages.
Beginners this is definitely a book for you, but any skill level will enjoy this book. Candace Kling's ribbon width formula (if you can call it that - recipe perhaps? ) is wonderfully and excitingly simple.
Definitely a book worth having!

- A great book, I have learnt a lot from it. I plan to use it with my students at school to enhance their craft projects.

5 comments about Elegant Ribbonwork: 24 Heirloom Projects for Special Occasions.
-
I have all of Helen Gibb's books. They are beautiful to look at, as well as excellent tools for learning. Making beautiful ribbon flowers is a very satisfying hobby.
- I always read the reviews before buying and almost didn't purchase this book because of the one bad review. I am so glad that I got this book. It is fabulous from beginning to end. The pictures and projects are virtually stunning. I already have Helen's book: Ribbonwork, the Complete Guide. It has a lot of illustrations while this book opens up your mind to vast possibilities. It is worth the purchase if not just to gaze in wonderment.
- This little book holds many, many instructions and pictures to show you how to make a wide variety of ribbons. It covers miniature ribbons, full size ribbons and a large offering of uses. The photos inside the book are informative and beautiful. There are many photos of historical uses of ribbon.
- This book is terrific. It gives you very clear instructions on how to make gorgeous flowers. I saw Ms. Gibb on Carol Duval's show and wanted to learn the technique and I am so glad that I ordered her books.
- I am an accomplished ribbon artist for several years now. I have books by several artists and my very favorite artist is Helen Gibb. I have learned so much from her. This bookElegant Ribbonwork is
absolutely luscious, with loads of new projects.. I can't wait to read it through and then start playing with my ribbons (I've already flipped through all the pictures - Hope I didn't drool on any of the pages).
Bravo, Helen!

5 comments about A Perfect World in Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork.
- I received my book quickly and in great condition. I'm always pleased with service from Amazon.
- I love all of her books however this is a favorite. Beautiful work and wonderfully illustrated to easily create for yourself.
- Just a wonderful challenging project. I finished the RES project and this one is a must companion piece.
- This is a GREAT book whether you are a beginner or a more advanced stitcher. With all due respect, I must disagree with Cynthia McCorkle's review. The book is quite different from the earlier one. Here are a few techniques not included in the earlier book: the flowers are different, the moth's wings, the organza petals of the Poppy, the silk petals of the Protea and the Waterlily, the barbola work on the Strelitzia flower, a new way to make the Roses and the loose petals of the Cosmos flower( on the cover of the book). I learned a lot of new techniques in this book. I have not only used some of the ideas to embellish my many needlepoint projects, but also enhanced my handmade greeting cards and my scrapbooks. I really like the clarity of the instructions, too!
- I purchased this book for a present for a friend, who is a vastly more experienced embroiderer, than myself. But first, I had the delight of looking at the book myself,I was bowled over by the delightful mixter of animals and plants, and only wish I could be that skilled. When I gave it to my friend she was equally delighted so you have 2 satisfied custumers.Jillian

2 comments about The Simple Art of Ribbon Design (Watson-Guptill Crafts).
- This is a grand book for instruction and ideas on how to design and develop ribbon flowers. I would heartily recommend this book to the beginner and the more advanced crafter.
- Although I have several books on the art of ribbonwork, this is by far my favorite. The photography is exquisite and plentiful throughout the book. Step by step instructions are so clear and precise that even the most novice handiworker will have no problem reproducing these beauties. If I could recommend just one book on this subject, this is it.

5 comments about Heirloom Ribbonwork.
- Helen Gibb is the best at reintroducing the Victorian Art of Ribboncraft and offering practical projects for today.
I've actually made some roses using Helen's instructions. This is a very good introductory book into making ribbon flowers.
- I came across this book at a local craft shop and quickly became enthralled by the beautiful projects. I have never done ribbonwork before nor even thought about doing it. But once I saw this book I very much wanted to learn!
This book covers how to get started and has many different levels of projects. I am going to start small with one simple flower and learn as I go along. Directions seem simple and easy to follow.
The photographs in the book are so beautiful, I like to sit back and just flip through them enjoying the era of days gone by. Also, the author (Helen Gibb) has a wonderful source guide in the back which includes her own website.
- Helen Gibb has once again prepared a book that not only teaches the art of ribbonwork, but is an eye appealing treasure, blending directions for creating ribbonwork pieces of today with those of the past. Beautiful examples of past treasures have been painstakingly arranged and photographed. The book is enjoyable to peruse just to marvel at the beautiful antique pieces she displays. Her love of the antique handwork is evident and her work is tasteful and eye appealing. Helen's first ribbonwork book was beautiful and her new book is another example of her high quality and standard.
- I have been pouring over this book ever since I received my autographed copy. This book is a must for anyone interested in silk ribbon embroidery or silk ribbon embellishment. Not only are the instructions clear and concise, but the book is dripping with photos of vintage and modern works alike. The variety of projects is sure to meet everyone's needs, with the photos providing endless ideas for using the techniques. Helen has created a masterpiece in this book.
- This book is really one of the best I have read about ribbon work. I do have Helen's other book on Ribbon Flowers also.Just could not wait for her Ribbonwork. I looked it over cover to cover and want to make everything in the book. She has a wide variety of heirlooms to make and they are fantastic. I love the Victorian era and this book is truly inspirational.Helen's teaching certainly makes it easy to make heirlooms as a gift or for yourself. They are absolutely magnificent!

5 comments about Pink Ribbon Quilts: A Book Because of Breast Cancer.
- I don't have breast cancer but was diagnosed with Vascular, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and have been looking for ways to raise awareness using my quilting experience.
I really enjoy this book and am very happy to discover that there are many projects that can be used for signature/friendship/community quilts. I love personalized items and these can help raise funds the traditional way by allowing communities to help one another.
This book puts a smile on my face. The photos are wonderful and it is a good addition to my quilt book collection. I also purchased Threaded Together; The Pink Ribbon Quilt Project and was worried they would be alike. I am happy to say that they are each different and I am a very proud owner of them both. I am so so glad there are books like this out there. They warm my heart and I cannot help hope there will also be one for my own disorder someday.
- Like the author, Mimi Dietrich I am a survivor. I had breast cancer three years ago and when I found this book I "had to have it" of course. I wanted to make a pink ribbon quilt for my self and I have one started, but I have made some to give away. I have given them to survivors and ladies still fighting and the wonderful ladies who get out and walk and raise money for the cure. If you know anyone who is fighting cancer, a survivor, or one of our angels (the ones who support us when we need them most) you can find a quilt in here for them.
- The ladies where I work have this book and after seeing it so did I. I am selecting my fabrics now. Nice ideas, good cause. There probably are not too many of us that don't know someone who has been touched by breast cancer. I want to give mine to a dear friend. Good book to have and use.
- Great book to cheer, support and grieve when breast cancer strikes. The patterns and ideas are great. There is something for everyone. I originally borrowed this book from a friend, but then decided it is one of the books I have to have for my collection.
- Before I developed breast cancer, I saw an episode of Simply Quilts on HGTV featuring the author of this book and was SO inspired by it. While recovering from surgery and radiation therapy in 2001, I made several Pink Ribbon blocks with a pattern from Pink Ribbon Quilts and gave to breast cancer survivors. I'm sure in the near future, I'll be tackling one of the beautiful quilts patterns in the book. I would highly recommend this book to any quilter and/or breast cancer survivor.

3 comments about Ribbon Renaissance (Milner Craft Series & Writing on Stone).
- The lady from California is right: beautiful and stunning. A superb coffee table book BUT not a how-to let me show you how one. If you want to make these projects you'll have to buy them from her OR get the Ann Cox Beginner's Guide and learn how. Ms. Eriksson's directions are rather sketchy and terse. An unfortunate after-effect of thiis terseness is that the book feels more like a catalogue, hence the coffee book category, than a craft manual.
Most of the projects are superb but towards the end they fall into the Helen Gibb (another Oz ribbon worker) category and become overly-done garish Victoriana. That aside there is some seriously good embroidery here and if get the Ann Cox book you can figure out how to make that all happen. Ann is a superb teacher-artist and her thin volume truly prepares you for the inspiration of Eriksson.
- I spied this at a craft show about 6 months ago and just had to take it home with me, even though I have never done any ribbon embroidery. This book is gorgeous. Large, high gloss, full color page after, full color page clearly showing the most amazing life-like ribbon embroidery floral arrangements. The instructions are clear and detailed patterns are presented for the projects. The artist works mainly with variegated silk ribbons and she explains how to choose and take advantage of their qualities to achieve her results, along with detailed how-to-stitch diagrams. The works is of the highest caliber similar to the types of projects seen in Australian embroidery magazines. Even if you never make a project, you can learn a great deal from her stunning compositions and color usage. Buy it as a pattern book or to enjoy as a luscious coffee table book.
- Wow! Here is a book with a refreshing view, showcasing the artistry of someone who is not mired in the terminal beginner's, cutesy, tacky and "me too" mode that crowd every "craft" magazine, supply shop, book, and all too many television shows today. Helena Eriksson displays a true artisan's grasp of what can be done with a little imagination and very importantly, quality of fabric (even though many of her color choices center around mauves!) Somehow, no matter how labor intensive and complicated her silk flower projects appear, this book can inspire anyone to give it a try - make something beautiful - and go beyond the mediocrity of all the basic, boring, sameness! A beautiful book - a beautiful presentation - highly recommended for all of us fanatics of silk ribbons and flowers!

4 comments about Making Ribbon Leis & Other Gifts of Aloha.
- This book was part of a bundle package. I love the ideas they gave for all the many different leis (Especially the money ones) :). Thanks.
- I own both the 1st and 2nd book from these authors. I've made 4 different leis from the first book, and am starting to get a feel for the techniques. The instructions really could be better, but they've been adequate for my needs. It would be nice if the authors could have included more step-by-step close-up photographs, and as already suggested in another review, more sources for the supplies and materials. (In my case, I've just substituted regular needles and nylon fishing line for the special needles and thread). I was able to find the recommended brand of ribbon from an online source (www.jkmribbon.com), for anyone who's having trouble locating the stuff. Since the book doesn't include difficulty ratings for each design, I can only suggest that the reader look closely at the instructions, and choose his/her first project carefully. I'm not a serious crafter, but I've been able to create really impressive leis on my first attempts. Since these books are about the only ones dealing with this type of project, I feel they're worth the reasonable purchase price.
- I bought both books 1 & 2 and I really love them the instruction is uncomplicated & easy to follow. However finding the supplies you need (if you don't live in Hawaii) is not easy!
I was very frustrated searching online, I went to craft store after craft store & couldn't find beeding needles that looked like what they had a picture of, with a magnifying glass I was able to get the number off the package in the picture. I only found one place that sold these needles online (but was thrilled!)
I still am unable to locate the Aoyama Tape (all purpose double sided tape used to join ribbons) my searches for "Aoyama" don't come up with any kind of tape.... it would be great to know if any 2 sided tape will work?
Same with the nylon beeding thread again I'm not able to locate what is in the picture I'm assuming size matters as it must fit though the eye of the beeding needle but no size is listed.
I'm also having a hard time finding the specific embroidery needles in the sizes listed...
It would have been EXTREMELY HELPFUL to have more information about the supplies listed. The only store listed is in Hawaii you can't order online but you can mail order. The address is listed but not the phone number.
The only other help was call you craft stores???? yeah have fun with that one I visited craft stores & they had no idea what I was talking about.
I really can't wait to start making lei's & hope that someday in the next few months I can finally find & receive all the supplies I need!
The books though are beautiful & the Leis magnificent!!!!
- I belong to a hula halau and recently we were each required to make ribbon leis for a fundraiser. I thought this book was very useful in instructing me on how to make more unique kinds of leis versus the most simple and common technique. The designs included in this book are wonderful and made my leis bestsellers! Using your creativity, you can use different types of ribbons to create interesting textures and looks. Great pictures, easy instructions, all around good book!
