5 comments about The Bearded Dragon: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.

  1. I find it hard to believe that the Author has ever owned a Bearded Dragon. If he did or does he never spent any time observing them. This author gives contrary information to just about every other source out there. This book would be better titled "How to care for your short lived dragon"

  2. Again as usual Amazon has come through for me ... the book a learning device for my son came in the knick of time ... his bearded dragon seems to like it too... not sure if thats a good thing but ty Amazon as always a wonderful delivery and very efficiently done ...

  3. I found this review to be very helpful. It breaks down different areas, such as feeding, breeding, health, etc in a detailed manner. Very reassuring for a nervous, first-time owner who loves their bearded dragon!

  4. I love bearded dragons and have been doing research on them for a long time. Many of my friends and family have beardies and i hope to get one soon.My friend has this book and it provides alot of useful informacion.

  5. I hate to be the only one who has a problem with this book, but I can't keep my mouth shut. This book was poorly written at best, containing information that was erroneous and possibly detrimental to the health of pet beardies. The author relied on what I basically refer to as "guesswork" rather than actual documented bearded dragon information. Just enough information to be ignorant is a dangerous thing. If you value your pet beardie, don't invest in this book. If you are interested in a book with a lot of good (correct) information, I would recommend: "The Bearded Dragon Manual" by Phillippe De Vosjoli/Robert Mailloux/et al. It is by far the most comprehensive guide to the care of bearded dragons at all stages of growth and development.

5 comments about Lizard Care from A to Z.

  1. but mixed in quality. This book is possibly very helpful if you're new to lizards and are looking for an overview on some species, just to see what's interesting. However, although the bulk of the care is accurate, there are parts I disagree with; as another reviewer noted, they state you can put four leopard geckos in a ten gallon tank, which is unreal; I'd say maybe 2 in a ten gallon. Lots of the cage sizes they mention seem off, one way or the other, but the novice, at whom this book is aimed, won't know that, because they lack experince.

As far as general care goes, I think they got most of the diets right, as well as general temperatures, etc. but there is no real in depth guide to care; breeding info, or really good specific information is scarce. Also, it seems some of thier species are out of date, by which I mean, many formerly common but now harder to come by species (which again, the novice likely won't find) are covered, whereas many now common species aren't. I can't really reccomend this book; look at online dealers (easy to find) and pet stores to figure what lizards appeal to you, and just go ahead and do more specific research; there are books on most particular species common to the trade, as well as mailing list, etc. where you can get equally good or better info, of a greater depth.

  2. I was expecting something a little more in depth. The Uromastyx section should really not be trusted. I reccomend joining a mailing list for your particular species.

  3. lizard care from a to z is the most comprehensive and informative book on reptile care that i have read in a long time. a variety of species are covered in considerable depth. it also includes information on cage construction, and general rules of thumb for the care of most common (and many uncommon) species found in the pet industry. an absolute must-buy

  4. The vast majority of info in the book was 100% accurate. However, I disagree with several cage sizes he reccomends. His savvana cgae size is somewhat larger than most people use, and his statment that you could put 4 leopard geckos in a 10 gallon seemed a bit unreal. Most leo breeders say no more than 2 in a ten gallon. Otherwise, a prefect book

  5. I enjoyed this book due to its wide variety of infomation and all of the great illustrations and diagrams on how to acutally set up the terrarium for the lizards. I currently use several of the books ideas for my lizard collection. I give this book two thumbs up.

5 comments about Boas (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).

  1. I've had this book for several years, and find it to be roughly the same as almost any other small, paperback, guide to owning a pet. I have many books on snakes, a lot of them which are this same type of very general guide. It would be a good read for somebody considering getting a boa. However, I found it to have a lot of generalized information (as many other guide books do). If you are looking for an introduction to boas, this is a good book for you. I would hope that a new boa owner should have done their homework, and found out all of this information prior to getting their new snake. However, in the event that the new boa owner has jumped into an unplanned or impulse purchase, this is a good way to catch up and get the most basic of information. Experienced boa owners may find this to be too general.

  2. I commend the author on his works. I have purchased many small books on Boids but so far this is the best. Most books overload their pages with pictures and unuseful information, but this author knew what he was doing. A great book for novice and intermediate boa lovers, and would recommend it over and over again. Thanks for a great book.

  3. I have read some books about boas, and this one is very usefull when it comes to talk about diseases, even when the chapter about disease is short, it's clear and concise. It also talks about genetics, a little confusing for someone new in breeding but usefull too. I consider this book is for begginers and intermediate boa owners.

  4. This has become one of my favorite snake books. It has really solid information for the size and price. The pictures are great, but it's the little details that make it unusual, things I never would have thought to do or not do.

  5. the book hase alot of information in it alot of picture its a nice book fun to read!!!!
