1 comments about Snakes ...Getting Started (Save Our Planet Book).
- Well for anyone that has read this book they would know that it is extreamly good. Not only does it describe the general care and needs of snakes it has lots of additional information that I for one have found truly fascinating and useful! i found this book to be a very good adviser as well as invaluable companion. I think that this book is good for everyone considering keeping snakes as it shows all the pros and cons of this fascinating and extremely exciting hobby! And remember all the profits go to the SAVE-OUR-PLANET charity, which is an extremely worthy cause

1 comments about All About Lizards.
- Profusely enhanced with a wealth of black-and-white and color photographs, reptile expert Robert Sprackland's All About Lizards is a straightforward, "reader friendly" guide to a variety of lizard species. From lizard habits, adaptations, and behavior in general to specific information on numerous lizard species from geckoes to iguanas and gila monsters, All About Lizards is a fascinating and highly recommended introduction that is strongly recommended for personal, school, and community library "Pets and Wildlife" reference collections.

2 comments about Cooters, Sliders & Painted Turtles (Herpetology Series).
- The problem with TFH publications is that they are usually so outdated as to be completely unreliable (and sometimes harmful).
The pictures in this book look like they came straight from the early 1980's, and as always TFH has taken the opportunity to tell their readers that their own pet products should be used above any other brand. The problem with this is that half the products featured in this book are now obsolete - they aren't even manufactured anymore!
I purchased this book after someone dropped off a rather large yellow-bellied cooter that they no longer wanted. Of course, the poor guy had been wild and yanked out of his natural environment only to be quickly tired of and abandonded by his kidnappers.
The only species this book deals with are native to North America, and I feel obligated to note here that because they are native species, most of them are ILLEGAL TO OWN IN CAPTIVITY without proper permits from your state's fish and game department.
ANY water turtle under four inches in size is ILLEGAL TO HAVE IN CAPTIVITY.
Also, turtles are the messiest, stinkiest, dirtiest creatures you could possibly fit into a fish tank and I do not recommend them as pets, especially for young children. They require A LOT of hard work and almost daily tank maintanence.
That being said, they also carry the bacteria Salmonella, which makes you VERY VERY SICK (I speak from experience as I have had it, from.. you guessed it.. messing with turtles) with E. Coli like symptoms that can be fatal to small children.
It bothers me that these warnings are not stated clearly anywhere in this book, and that reading this book one might come away with the idea that it's perfectly acceptable to go catch a wild painted turtle (which are on the endangered species list in this state) and take it home to make it a pet.
TFH should stop putting out books before they cause indirect harm to more animals than I'm sure they already have.
- Great pictures make this book very useful for figuring out exactly what type of turtle you have in that tank in your home. In addition, the information on longevity and disposition is helpful in understanding these animals, both at home and in the wild.

4 comments about Snakes: Their Care and Keeping.
- This book has it all, from basic biology to handling, breeding, feeding and health care tips and much much more including several colour pictures of just about every snake imagionable. This book is very well written plus the author has a wonderful sense of humor. It is geared more toward the amateur herper although I an sure that all experienced herpers will enjoy reading this book. An absolute must for amateur herpers.
- Regarding the reviewer below---I see one of my creationist "friends" has decided to pay a visit.
I didn't do any of the reviews here. I don't have to. I have my own author section right there at the bottom. Even lists my professional credentials.
- Lenny Flank writes great books on snakes and lizards. This one contains so much information it's almost like an encyclopodia--except that it's fun to read. A definite must for all devotees.
- The book is not a complete waste of time to read, *but* it is a complete waste of your money (perhaps check it out from your local library...).
The author is not a professional and doesn't possess any formal or academic background in the field; he is a hobbyist. This is all well and good, but if I want precise information on how to properly care for my snake, it certainly wouldn't be from another hobbyist. Overall, the book does provide decent supplemental information from another hobbyist, but it is certainly not up to being one's primary or sole source of information to caring for your snake. In this respect, it is wholly lacking. If the reader is seeking expert, *qualified* information (and if you genuinely care about your snake), he or she certainly will not find it in this book.

1 comments about Your Iguana's Life: Your Complete Guide to Caring for Your Pet at Every Stage of Life (Your Pet's Life).
- In the 2 years I've had my adopted Iguana Igloo, I have skimmed or read a number of books and websites about Iguana care. This book was easy to read and share information from it with children in the family. I also appreciated the author's fresh approaches to training an iguana and some realistic things to think about before getting one as a pet. So many people do not realize what they're really asking for when they purchase or adopt an iguana; I know I sure didn't. But if you truly care about the animal you have, you will do everything you can to care for it properly. I think this book is a great, comprehensive guide in easy to read format with lots of great ideas for beginning, and experienced, iguana caretakers!
