1. This book has few pictures but good coverage on care for each type of frog. The author spends two chapters describing his expeditions to Panama and Fr. Guiana. He BRIEFLY discusses how to build and outfit a terrarium (vivarium), diseases and breeding. The last half of the book discusses each species individually. He gives a description, outlines distribution-habitat in the wild, lists optimum temperature and vivarium size, and gives detailed information on their breeding habits and care of tads. I would have liked more focus on caring for the frogs and less on breeding them and seeing them in the wild. Otherwise, good reference book.



2. I have read several books on dart frogs and the set-up of this is ideal for an intermediate frog owner as well as the beginner. Branching off sections on: genus, species, general care, food, temp. setting, cage set-up, and difficulty of captive care; you should be more than ready to start your first set-up( of course only with the suggested beginning frogs) or continue your knowledge of these beautiful creatures. I keep frogs myself and feel this book would be wise to read if you plan to care for any poison frog as long as their life span should be.



3. This book is great for beginners, covering natural history, terrarium construction, live food culture and individual species requirements. The very nice photographs make it a wish list for frog keepers.

1. don't buy this book. This book is WOEFULLY outdated and shockingly inaccurate. Some of the suggestions in this book are nothing short of abuse. There are far better sources available today for proper care of your pet land hermit crab, most of them are available online and for free.



2. Every now and then I take out this book just to laugh at, and then pity the poor animals who may have suffered for the advice dispensed within the pages. For example, Mr. Pronek suggests that in order to "get your shell back from the crab" to simply "put him in the cold for a short time until he becomes dormant, then simply pull him out of the shell. When he wakes up, have a new shell for him." A photo of a crab in a ice tray is next to the text. This unusually cruel info is later contradicted, when he states that hermit crabs easily freeze to death because they are tropical animals.
   
   The really only good thing I can say about this book is that there are some nice pictures and photos. However, if you're trying to find a good book on hermit crabs, especially the various land species that are sold most commonly, I do suggest you try to find a book that was published more recently than 1982.
