5 comments about Chameleons: Their Care and Breeding.

  1. One of the best Cham books out there for beginners. Chameleon husbandry Information is hard to find in book form. I as one of the above reviewers stated also have all the cham books on husbandry on amazon[.com], and this one is the best. I recommend finding a breeder and talking to them, that is the only way to get the most up to date info on chameleon care.

  2. If you are a new chameleon hobbiest owner or are about to take that plunge into chameleon ownership, this is the ONLY book you will need.

It covers feeding, caging, care specific to many different and exotic species, and basic medical information as well. The book is well written and covers topics thoroughly. The pictures are superb and the author's personal experience keeping chameleons and other herps is very reassuring and lends to her credibility. I wish I had got this book first, if I had, I would have never bought the deVosjoli or Bartlett books. I spent way more than twice the cost of Davison's book buying 5 or 6 other books about chameleons--all of which have outdated, incorrect and/or incomplete information.

I WAS LOOKING FOR THE QUINESSENTIAL BOOK, WRITTEN FOR THE HOBBIEST, ON THE HUSBANDRY (aka CARE) OF CHAMELEONS.....I OWN EVERY ONE OF THE BOOKS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON AMAZON.COM IF YOU DO A SEARCH FOR "CHAMELEON" OR "CHAMELEONS" BUT, I PROMISE YOU, NONE COMPARE TO LINDA DAVISON'S BOOK! SHE HAS GIVEN US A BOOK THAT IS AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET TO FINDING THE PROVERBIAL DEFINITIVE BOOK.

P.S. If you are a chameleon owner and you do NOT have this book, no kidding, you do NOT know what you are missing!

  3. this is the book to get. what more can be said. seems pricey but it is worth every penny.

  4. I have purchased five books on chameleons in preparation for buying one as a pet. I found that several of the books contained conflicting information or not enough. This book was full of accurate and helpful information. I confirmed this with a local breeder! I have refered to this book quite a bit. Buy this book first!

  5. I have all the chameleon books currently available and this is the one I always go to for information. I have bred my Veiled Chameleons and have treated quite a few health problems using the information found in this book. This should be the first book you buy when you are thinking of owning these wonderful animals.

5 comments about Complete Idiot's Guide to Turtles & Tortoises (The Complete Idiot's Guide).

  1. It is so nice to have a practical guide for the pet owner that isn't written like a text book. I really enjoyed it.

  2. This book is descriptive and informative even for the experienced turtle owner.

  3. There should be more spell-it-out for the beginner books like this on the subject. Turtles are very difficult to care for properly and this book is full of truths on the matter. Concise and thorough - a necessity for the rookie or pro turtle keeper.

  4. Easy to read and lots of practical information based on author's vast experiences. As a beginner, I truly found it resourceful and useful. If you love to read a how-to book, it is the one you're looking for. But if you love fancy photos, 4-color pictures for reference purpose, etc. it's not what you need. Liz, it'd be very much better and will be perfect if you could possibly include more 4-color pictures of famous tortoises and turtles.

  5. I think this book is a top notch one and everyone wanting to know more on turtles should read if not buy this book!

5 comments about Cichlids: The Pictorial Guide, Volume 2 (Cichlids).

  1. solely a pictural guide but if you looking to learn the different species of cichlids this could certainly be of some help.

  2. Oddly enough, it appears only 1 of the cichlids on the cover is an actul Mbuna, the rest being Haps.

  3. Best Malawi pictorial reference, the photos are first rate with an example of male and female photos for each species. Don't buy another Malawi Cichlid without it!

  4. An excellent book, with crisp clear photos in a simple reader friendly format. Great for seeing what those plain Fry are going to grow to look like. Also useful in seperating breeds with similiarly marked females and juveniles. You can take this one off the bookshelf and leave it on the coffee table.

  5. I have rated this book a 5-star book based only on the photographs in the book. Easy species of fish is shown in brilliant color against black backgrounds on every page. Teh fish are large pictures too so you can view a lot of detail. The other portion of this book has common names and scientific nomenclature for each species.

The book will give some brief lines of information regarding habits of the fish but it is very limited. A great book for choosing fish you would like to obtain and contacting your local pet stores to then purchase for you. If you are looking for breeding, diseases, feeding, etc, then you would do best to find another reference.
