1. I love to read. I bought this book because of the author, and that called my attention the title "Cien anos de Soledad", I wanted to know what this title means and how Gabriel Garcia Marquez could write without living that long, it was amazing the way he described all the situations that make me feel that I was part of the novel.I ussually read at night and while reading this book I just wanted to go to the end and read to 4 or 5 am. I will recommend this book very hardly



2. Al terminar el libro solo queda darle gracias a Garcia Marquez por el universo marivilloso que a creado para la posteridad. Un libro de esos sorprendentes q vale la pena re-leer y q tiene la cualidad de sumergir al lector tan facilmente q es mejor leerlo despues de haber hecho las demas tareas del dia para no olvidar de hacerlas!
   Es un regalo grandiosioso.



3. Excellent novel; good in English translation, better in this (Spanish) original. Special "Royal Institute of Spanish Literature" edition contains critical works on the novel. Good buy, good book, great story.

5. Este edición, aparte de ser un buen libro, es otro edición ejemplar de Alfaguara. Sale en pasta dura y tiene un listón en medio del libro para mantener tu página. Además del libro, salen artículos de Carlos Fuentes ("Para darle nombre a América"), Mario Vargas Llosa ("Cien años de Soledad. Realidad total, novela total.") y otros. También incluye un glosario del español de Márquez (para explicar las palabras que no están o no tienen el mismo sentido en otros dialectos del español.) Y en fin, una lista de los personajes, con detalles someras sobre sus papel en la historia, pero no revela detalles.
   
   Si han leído esta historia antes o lo quieren leer por la primera vez, esta es una edición ideal que parece elegante en sus estantes después de haberlo leído.

4. I waited for about three weeks for this book to arrive. It came from a public library. I did not care to pay almost $15.00 for this. I could have bought it new for the wait and book itself. Disappointed!



5. Creo que construimos la vida de dentro afuera. Y, hasta cierto punto, podemos influir en lo que nos rodea mediante una actitud positiva y ESFUERZO. Esta última palabra, junto con otras, como DISCIPLINA, están desapareciendo a marchas forzadas de nuestro vocabulario. Son como esas especies animales que se extinguen día a día en nuestros bosques. En su lugar han ido reapareciendo otras especies del pasado: animales mitológicos, mágicos, genios de la lámpara de Aladino, que nos garantizan la felicidad con solo soñar un poquito. Y sin estresarse, ¿eh?
   
   Panfletos como El Secreto, nos advierten del peligro de considerar siquiera lo negativo. Si alguien lo está pasando mal, nuestro deber es cerrar los ojos. Al fin y al cabo es su culpa. La compasión es un error, nosotros debemos preocuparnos por nuestra prosperidad (DINERO) y así, de paso, les mostraremos el camino a los otros. Me parece una filosofía de lo más superficial. De lo más egoísta y estúpido. Es la superstición que no nos ha dejado nunca. Es Peter Pan diciendo "tú puedes volar si piensas pensamientos bellos". Mandrake el mago, haciendo un pase mágico.
   
   En cuanto al "libro", es una colección de citas y cuentos convenientemente arreglados para darnos una moraleja; eso sí, con un envoltorio cuidadísimo. Tipo Walt Disney. Creo que en futuras ediciones le podían añadir un sombrero de pico y una varita. Por lo que respecta a los "escritores" (la mayoría, como Joe Vitale, con doctorados falsos) son el moderno equivalente a esos charlatanes que iban vendiendo elixires milagrosos por los pueblos en los tiempos del salvaje Oeste.
   
   Si alguien está interesado en saber sobre New Thought (El Nuevo Pensamiento, que es en lo que se basa este librillo), le recomiendo que lea a Ernest Holmes, sobre todo Creative Mind and Success, quizá también él esté hablando de magia. Pero de una magia mucha más profunda y humana.

   Hace que renazca la Fe y la Esperanza y nos ayuda a meditar sobre la cercania de Dios en todo tiempo.

2. I highly recommend this edition! It's wonderful to go back and forth, line to line, reading the English translations first, then the original Spanish. Translations are fluid! A fantastic way to introduce yourself to one of the greatest poets of all time!

5 comments about El Alquimista: Una Fabula Para Seguir Tus Suenos.

1. DESACUERDO.
   Que me gusta la tema general- la de seguir los sueños- pero solamente cumpli leyendo este libro por fe de que no todos podrian estar equivocados sobre El Alquimista. HACE CONSTAR:
   Sí. Estan Todos Equivocados (menos ellos como "Eli").
   Este libro defina cliché. La trama no tiene nada que ver con "alquimia" cualquier significara este termino. En lugar de algun sentido de magia (como se presenta en libros como Harry Potter) este libro se impregna con un sentido meta-religioso que a veces cita a la Biblia Sacra, pero mas frequente acerca a un nocion de auto-deificacion. Enfatiza la santidad de la naturaleza y las "señas" que nos puede dar. La mezcla resulta absurda. En manos de un autor mas diestro, quiza podria yo involucrarme mas con esta tipa de espiritualidad, pero Paulo Coelho (por lo menos en su version del libro espanol) no es este autor.
   La unica cosa que puedo decir en favor de este libro es que es facilisimo para leer. De verdad soy hablante primeramente de ingles, y un estudiante EEUU. No tuve que consultar mi diccionario ingles/espanol ni una vez. Entonces, verdad que si seas un estudiante nuevo de espanol podras leer El Alquimista con exito pero probablemente con ganas de arrancarse los cabellos tambien. En ingles:
   Predictable, Cheesy, Sappy, Cliche!



2. I've listened to the book in English (in the shape of an audiobook) and read it in Spanish. It was great in either language. The book is not too long, and it is told using simple language, meaning it will not take long to read the entire work which is good for a quick read or something you do not want to invest too much time on. The narrative is simple to understand as well as the ideas, this does not mean that the story is dull or dumb by any means. There are things that the reader can learn from the characters in the work, and the reader can sometimes identify with the character in the story.
   
   Positive message/good story/not very long



3. A friend suggested this book to me and I could not put it down. It is my first book from Paulo Coelho. Well written, interesting, learned a few things that I have put to practice, also helped me refresh my Spanish.

1. This book is really good, from the prologue we can learn of true love. The book explains in detail each chapter, it includes Bible readings, daily exercise and space to note the experiences when performing these exercises.
   It's great to realize that we also make mistakes and it is not your partner the only one who must change or improve herself.

4. Compre el libro despues de ver la pelicula "Fireproof". Esta pelicula gira en torno a una severa crisis matrimonial que se suaviza y hasta resuelve gracias a que el marido pone en practica las ensenanzas que encuentra en un cuaderno que recibe de su padre. Este libro contiene el texto del cuaderno de la pelicula.
   
   La pelicula fue escrita y filmada en el entorno de una comunidad evengelica, esto es, cristiana. Su contenido es razonablemente valido tambien para catolicos.
   
   Mi matrimonio no esta en crisis, pero me parecio que conocer las propuestas de este libro podria ser interesante por dos motivos:
   
   1. Nunca es tarde para asimilar actitudes coherentes y hasta constructivas para un matrimonio
   
   2. En nuestro entorno hay matrimonios con mas o menos problemas; conocer el libro nos permite valorar la conveniencia de recomendarlo
   
   El libro propone 40 actitudes o puntos de reflexion para mejorar la relacion matrimonial. Cada capitulo incluye tambien un proposito concreto para cada uno de los dias. No puedo valorarlos desde el punto de vista de un conyuge "en crisis", pero para nuestro caso los propositos son un poco forzados a menudo.
   
   Todos los textos giran en torno a citas biblicas. Sin embargo echo de menos propuestas de accion concreta para creyentes: asistir a Misa, participar de la Eucaristia y sobre todo Confesion (porque seguro que en un matrimonio en crisis hay sobrados motivos, y porque Dios asi nos lo pide).
   
   El libro es, en definitiva, algo tibio. Sin embargo es de lectura recomendable tanto para matrimonios en crisis, matrimonios felices o, incluso futuros matrimonios.

   I got what I expected for a used book. All pages were clean, the book looks neat. A few scratches on the edges, it could have being sold cheaper. My friend got one brand new for about three bucks more than what I paid for mine, in a Christian store in our hometown.



2. I purchased this item as a gift to my mother because I enjoyed the original version in English. The Spanish version did not offer the same depth and understanding as the English version. There was to much music at the beginning, which distracts from the teachings. The reader was very dramatic, it almost felt like those Christian churches in Spanish that I dread to go to because it doesn't feel true. However, since I heard it first in English, I was able to grasp and understand a Purpose Driven Life. Rick Warren should make sure that the Spanish translator is really translating his message in the correct way.



3. This book will give you an opportunity to really see what your life path should be and how to achieve a better way of living. It is very rewarding.



4. I gave this to a friend after I read the book- it is wonderful and very helpful to both of us. Everyone needs to read this book!

5 comments about Los Cinco Lenguajes Del Amor: Como expresar devocion sincera a su conyuge (Five Love Languages, Spanish edition).

1. Gary Chapman expone en su libro un análisis interesantísimo y bien escrito de los lenguajes afectivos del humano. La lectura no le será solamente beneficiosa para la relación que mantiene con su cónyuge sino también afectará positivamente sus lazos interfamiliares o con los amigos. Chapman da muchos ejemplos prácticos y de la vida real, de modo que cada lector podrá identificarse con alguno de los tipos de comunicación afectiva descritos. "Los cinco lenguajes del amor" es una obra muy práctica y aplicable a la vida cotidiana. Yo lo considero una contribución bastante útil y absolutamente recomendable para enriquecer su comunicación afectiva y comprender mejor sus propias necesidades.



2. este libro es exelente y salvo mi matrimonio... todos deberian leerlo, yo se los regalo a mis amigos siempre que se presenta la oportunidad o que siento que lo nesesitan!

4. Gary Chapman en su libro Los cinco lenguajes del amor, observa que hay cinco maneras generales de expresar amor.
   
   a) Palabras de afirmación (como el reconocer logros, elogiar y dar ánimo).
   b) Tiempo de calidad (como el escuchar con atención, realizar paseos y viajes juntos).
   c) Recibir regalos (como las flores, las joyas y los libros).
   d) Actos de servicio (como lavar el automóvil, cortar el césped, hacer la comida, cuidarle en la enfermedad).
   e) Toque físico (como tomar la mano, dar abrazos, besos).
   
   Es de suma importancia que cada cónyuge descubra cuál de estos "lenguajes" aprecia más su cónyuge. Es grato y aun necesario "hablar" todos estos lenguajes emocionales para expresar amor a su cónyuge, pero conviene un énfasis especial en aquel que el o ella siente hondamente. Es posible que uno esté amando con un lenguaje que el otro apenas siente o entiende como amor. Si a cierta esposa lo que más le hace sentirse amada son las palabras de afirmación, no le será tan importante que todos los días su esposo le regale algo material, sin elogiarle o animarla verbalmente.

5. Creo que toda pareja de casados deberia leer este libro. Particularmente puedo decir que aprendi muchisimo de este libro. Si se pone en practica lo que ensena, sin duda alguna la relacion alganzara un maravilloso nuevo nivel.

2. I've only had this bible for a couple of years now, and have made so many notes in the margins that I'll need to buy a new copy soon!
   
   For the spiritual Spanish-learner, intermediate level & up, it's miraculous how scripture you've read and heard and studied for a lifetime is suddenly fresh, and brimming with new insights when read in easy-to-understand Spanish.

3. The New International Version has been my favourite since university days. I was delighted to find a Spanish equivalent and this Bible combines both, making it really easy to read in both languages. Binding and presentation of this edition is great and makes a really special present for someone you love.



4. Clear print, nicely formatted with Spanish on the left and English on the right. Anyone who has doubts about the meaning of a passage (especially the thornier ones in Deuteronomy) can simply consult the opposite column. Handy for Bible scholars and readers of any faith!



5. As a Spanish interpreter I was looking for a Bilingual Bible and this one is very practical!. This version is also very simple and easy to understand and use.
