1. Being a fan of Pablo Neruda's poetry, I wanted to get my hands on The Essential Neruda to take a look at more of his work. After reading Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair, I fell in love with the poet.
   
   The Essential Neruda contains 50 of Neruda's poems, not all of them about love.
   I enjoyed this collection, a few of my favorites are in here, such as I Can Write the Saddest Lines, Leaning into the Afternoons and I Like For You To Be Still.
   I did find the translation to be slightly different from the poems in Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair, due to the different translators. I love reading Neruda's work in Spanish, it is painfully beautiful.
   There is definitely something lost in translation, the feel of the work is a bit different when read in English. The words flow better in it's original Spanish text. I'm a sucker for sad poetry about love and heartache.
   
   Though Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair remains my favorite collection of Neruda's poetry, I'm glad I read The Essential Neruda. I got to experience more of the poets work.
   How can you not love Neruda's way with words?

   There is also a poem in this collection called Ode With A Lament, that he wrote while his daughter was gravely ill. This one brought a tear to my eye.
   
   Only with kisses and red poppies can I love you,
   with rain-soaked wreaths
   contemplating ashen horses and yellow dogs.
   Only with waves at my back can I love you...
   
   
   There's so much beautiful and moving poetry in this collection, highly recommended.



2. Yes, this is the Essential Neruda. It's not complete, but it covers all of his topics and contains some wonderful gems and insight. If you only buy one Neruda volume, make it this one.

4. I highly recommend this edition! It's wonderful to go back and forth, line to line, reading the English translations first, then the original Spanish. Translations are fluid! A fantastic way to introduce yourself to one of the greatest poets of all time!

   This book is an awesome work with splendid poems that have something to say to everyone.
   
   Side-by-side texts with their translations are great in making the reader evaluate the meanings and nuances in both languages.
   
   I love these verses:
   
   "And the air came in with orange-blossom fingers
   over all those asleep:
   a thousand years of air, months, weeks of air,
   of blue wind, of iron cordillera,
   that were like soft hurricanes of footsteps
   polishing the lonely boundary of the stone."
   
   The imagery is vivid and thrilling, like in these verses:
   
   "Full woman, carnal apple, hot moon,
   thick smell of seaweed, crushed mud and light,
   what obscure clarity opens between your columns?
   What ancient night does man touch with his senses?"
   
   I can recommend this poetry to anyone.

2. I have The Secret in English and liked it so much, I decided to get it in Spanish for my mom. It arrived a lot quicker than I expected!!



3. Las personas que tildan el libro de fantasioso, o que no aporta nada, pueden estar en lo cierto para ellos, pues ellos no han sabido interpretarlo de la manera indicada. Tener un deseo,pensar y sentarse a esperar que se dara, no es lo que ensena el libro. El secreto es creer que tu deseo es una realidad sin NINGUNA duda, agredecer por haberlo obtenido, e incluir las emociones de felicidad, alegria, entuasiasmo por tener dicho deseo, aunque aun no este aqui materializado, pues asi vendra mas rapido, cuando incluimos las emociones. Por eso no funciona a los que dudan. Atraemos cosas a nuestra vida que no nos gusta porque sin darnos cuenta mucha gente vive con temores, complejos, inseguridades y eso debe ser superado para entender esto. No es facil, toma tiempo cambiar una actitud con la que hemos crecido. Las cosas como guerras o desastres naturales, no estan en nuestra mente, una sola persona no puede desear que no haya guerra, si no miles de personas tienen que enfocarse en la paz.



4. I bought this book for my wife and also read it. Basically it tells you that if you have confidence in yourself you can accomplish anything you want if you work hard enough. You dont need a book to tell you that.

1. Realmente compre este libro Basado en los reviews o comentarios de los demas,
   El "ARQUIMISTA" se base de o el autor se enfoca en tres Pasos:
   1- Un Pastor
   2- Un Oasis
   3- Un Arquimista
   hay libros que te dan deseos de seguir al proximo capitulo, este te da deseo de terminar rapido para salir de el capitulo que estas y ver si encuentra algo interesante en el proximo.
   
   He leido 2 Libros de Paulo Coelho incluyendo este y tratare de evadirlos.



2. DESACUERDO.
   Que me gusta la tema general- la de seguir los sueños- pero solamente cumpli leyendo este libro por fe de que no todos podrian estar equivocados sobre El Alquimista. HACE CONSTAR:
   Sí. Estan Todos Equivocados (menos ellos como "Eli").
   Este libro defina cliché. La trama no tiene nada que ver con "alquimia" cualquier significara este termino. En lugar de algun sentido de magia (como se presenta en libros como Harry Potter) este libro se impregna con un sentido meta-religioso que a veces cita a la Biblia Sacra, pero mas frequente acerca a un nocion de auto-deificacion. Enfatiza la santidad de la naturaleza y las "señas" que nos puede dar. La mezcla resulta absurda. En manos de un autor mas diestro, quiza podria yo involucrarme mas con esta tipa de espiritualidad, pero Paulo Coelho (por lo menos en su version del libro espanol) no es este autor.
   La unica cosa que puedo decir en favor de este libro es que es facilisimo para leer. De verdad soy hablante primeramente de ingles, y un estudiante EEUU. No tuve que consultar mi diccionario ingles/espanol ni una vez. Entonces, verdad que si seas un estudiante nuevo de espanol podras leer El Alquimista con exito pero probablemente con ganas de arrancarse los cabellos tambien. En ingles:
   Predictable, Cheesy, Sappy, Cliche!



3. I've listened to the book in English (in the shape of an audiobook) and read it in Spanish. It was great in either language. The book is not too long, and it is told using simple language, meaning it will not take long to read the entire work which is good for a quick read or something you do not want to invest too much time on. The narrative is simple to understand as well as the ideas, this does not mean that the story is dull or dumb by any means. There are things that the reader can learn from the characters in the work, and the reader can sometimes identify with the character in the story.
   
   Positive message/good story/not very long



4. A friend suggested this book to me and I could not put it down. It is my first book from Paulo Coelho. Well written, interesting, learned a few things that I have put to practice, also helped me refresh my Spanish.



5. I bought this book for my dad after I read it. I loved how it was easy to read quick and enticing. Additionally it was the perfect supplement to the amazing workshops I have been taking. A must read.
   
   Este Libro lo compre para mi padre despues de que lo lei. Me encanto Muchisimo, el muchacho de la historia es muy inteligente y hace cosas extraordinario en el libro que te hace querer seguir leyendo COMPRENLO!!!!!

1. Half the stories are interesting. The other half are quite boring, but if you are planning to take the AP Spanish test you have to read this stuff.

3. This book along with "Tomo I" are without a doubt the AP Spanish Lit Exam. I had both books during the last school year and 4 of the featured stories in the books appeared on the MC section and another 4 appeared on the free response section. Bottom line if you are looking to take AP Spanish Lit exam this is the book for you. In addition it is a great read for anyone who is wants to start reading Spanish literature. The books feature a variation of authors from all of Mexico, South and Central America, and Spain. Stories come with a brief biography of the author and provide some background of the writers. In addition colloquial phrases and complex words are defined in the same page they are printed and are marked with numbers making them easy to find in the story and list. In short I really liked this book and recommend it to anyone taking the AP Lit exam or interested in Spanish literature.

4. The poems, excerpts, and short stories in this book are extremely enjoyable. Many of the stories in this book I have also read in English, but it is always a pleasure to read them in their original language. Recommended for AP or advanced Spanish classes.

1. I love this bilingual Bible, it has both languages on the same page which makes it a great tool for reference. The one drawback is that it does not have the chapters & verse numbered to the left of the of each paragraph.



2. I spent a while looking for a good NIV English/Spanish translation of the Bible for my brother who absolutely loves the language and the Lord. He wanted to learn and study them together and when I gave him this, he was so excited. He has used it for years and loves it.



3. To begin -- this is a great idea! I would love to see a wider proliferation of these parallel bibles, making them something of a rosetta stone for the modern age. This addition is an easy-to-read side-by-side presentation of the NIV translation with... some Spanish translation. I can't say whether the Spanish translation is an independent endeavor, a translation of the English NIV, or... what. In any case, it closely follows the NIV text, and was a pleasure to read. Both halves are aided by footnotes.



4. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS BIBLE. LOVE THE QUALITY OF THE PAGES, GOOD PRICE, AND A GREAT TOOL FOR ME IN BEING ABLE TO SHARE WITH WITH OTHERS. I AM ALSO USING IT FOR MEMORY WORK IN SPANISH.



5. For a Spanish speaking person, this is a great help to study the Bible in their own language and at the same time be able to learn it in English.
   
   Both English and Spanish translation are very accurate.
   
   We will be buying more as the need presents itself.

2. I really enjoyed this book. It makes one think about the limitations we put on the Trinity. We had a Sunday school class and discussed this book. There were many different views voiced. Most were very positive, but I heard that there are some folks who were very offended by the book. It is worth the read.
