1 comments about Handel Lamps Book.
- This is the absolute best reference book on Handel lighting - period. Defalco & Company show that they are the number one authority on the subject of Handel. I have seen many reference publications with examples of Handel lighting but never such a comprehensive work such as this.

1 comments about The Collector's Encyclopedia of Majolica.
- I am new to the wonderful world of Majolica. I was looking for some reference books to help me purchase quality pieces of Majolica on ebay without paying more than I should. I found The Collector's Encyclopedia of Majolica a good reference because of the approx. 180 pages of colorful pictures illustrating the various types of Majolica pottery available. This book includes a value guide for the pieces pictured in it with a few pages of general information. I gave it 3 stars because it is helpful in pricing certain items but does not give you alot of details about the history of the many companies that produced Majolica.

2 comments about Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying and Selling Antiques.
- Having been in the antiques business for over twenty years -- buying and selling, owning my own antiques store -- I made the assumption that I know something about antiques. I purchased this book before Christmas and decided I was the idiot this book was written for. It is very well written, funny, insightful and clear. The sections were applicable to my needs, and to put it very simply, I have learned a great deal in a very short time. I will keep this book on hand for reference, it purports to be for idiots, but the benefit will be for all levels -- regardless of your expertise, you will find something that you did not know.
- Yes, this is just the book you are looking for. Whether an experienced antique enthusiast looking for a quick reference, or a novice looking for a jump start (like I am) - the Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying and Selling Antiques is informative and concise and better yet, a pleasure to read. How can a study guide be so much fun?! Helpful pictures and "AntiqClues" are found throughout.
Emyl Jenkins tells you what it is, how to find it and (the fun part) how to investigate your treasure before you take it home. The quick reference card is invaluable.

1 comments about The Standard Antique Clock Value Guide.
- 215 pages of detailed illustrations with information on the type of clock, pattern name, when manufactured, dial size and price. Even if you're not a collector or seller this book is interesting to look at with all the different styles of clocks. Would make a wonderful coffee table book.

2 comments about V for Victory Collectibles.
- This book is remarkably full of errors. Multiple prices for the same item are listed in different locations. Items are completely mislabelled with regard to what they are made of or what they are. When comparing prices in this guide with his other homefront guide the prices for many items are completely different reflecting this authors failure to be consistent and to proofread his work. Were it not for the pics sent by the collectors, this book would have zero utility. The pics are good thanks to his contributors but the rest of the guide for accuracy and integrity is sorely lacking. Give it a one star because of the pics. I'd pass on this sloppy work...
- This is a brand new 2001 volume featuring a wide array of collectibles with the "V" for victory from the 1940's. Many photos are large, sharp, and in full color. Most are super black and white photos. There's a nice introduction. Major topics range from Pearl Harbor, Banks, Music, V-Mail, Postcards to Linens, Stamps, Bonds, Banners, and Victory Gardens,Toys, Ads, posters, and much more. Adequate text is provided. This is a very timely book, with patriotism at an all time high. It's of interest to every American, no matter their year of birth. Add it to your library.

1 comments about American Pottery & Porcelain (Antique Hunter's Guides).
- Fold your standard sheet of paper in half and that's about the size of this book. -So, when I first saw it I thought I'd be disappointed... BUT I was pleasantly surprised! -It starts off with a brief intro to the different types of pottery (redware, stoneware, yellowware, ironstone,) and porcelain and a history of how they were/are made. It goes on to a visual key which has silhouette figures of items and is helpful to identify what item it is that you have. ...was that a coffeepot or a teapot? :o) After you've id'd your object, you can find the section in the book that corresponds and there you will find a color photo of one example and all sorts of helpful info. on your item. -A short description of what the typical physical size and shape would be, areas where the items were made, comments on typical uses, and hints on what you should avoid/look for. The price guide in the back gives you a ballpark figure of value.
this book does not focus on any specific brands, rather highlights some of the big name makers and brands that you may want to watch for. For being a general guide, I think this is as good as it gets. I found it superior to any of the Millers, Kovels series. -It actually teaches you what to look for, as opposed to other books which just inform you of what you already have. It is a great reference for collectors and resellers. Small enough to take with you to every auction and yard sale!

3 comments about The Ginny Doll Encyclopedia.
- The title "Encyclopedia" suggests a book full of information, but the text of this book is sparse, disjointed, and occasionally downright weird. (It starts with the voyage of the Mayflower. Really. I could not possibly make that up.)
The color photos of the dolls in the most recent edition are lovely, but a surprising number of the book's photos are of old advertising materials, newspaper clippings, promotional displays and even price lists, plus photos of the company's founding family. Far from an encyclopedia about the popular Ginny doll, the book reads as if someone published the company's scrapbook.
- My review applies to the revised edition I just acquired, 2004 copyright. It features over 350 full-color photos and is very, very informative. I especially liked the fact that all Ginnys shown in this book are wearing their authentic costumes and accessories! This book has very elaborate descriptions and include pictures of many of the original boxes that the Ginnys came in. What more can I say? It's well worth the investment! Love this book!
- BOOK WAS OK. NOT AS MUCH IMFORMATION AS I WOULD HAVE LIKED
