2 comments about Warman's Fiesta Ware: Identification & Price Guide.

  1. I love all things Fiesta, but this book is terrible. My main complaint is the "quality" of the photographs. They are so grainy-- sort of clear but fuzzy at the same time. And the color is way off. I mistook several pictures of gray Fiestaware for lilac at first glance! So forget about his "comparison" of the greens because it will not help you. What gets me is that any crap digital camera would have done a better job but from the reflections in the dishes it looks like he had a professional shoot the pictures. By the way, I also completely ignored the text (even though it is in LARGE print), since the Huxfords' book and the HLCCA's book cover everything. The bottom line: don't waste your time or money.

  2. First off Fiesta is beautiful, but the photographs in this book are terrible!!! Not one photograph shows an accurate depiction of the subject. Many photographs seem blurred or fuzzy.
Pass this by and get "Fiesta, Harlequin, and Kitchen Kraft Dinnerwares" by The Homer Laughlin China Collectors Association. You will not ne disappointed....unless you purchase Warman's book.

1 comments about The Official Blackbook Price Guide to World Coins 2008, Edition #11 (Official Price Guide to World Coins).

  1. Offers a quick way to get a coin value in an easy to read format. IT does not provide instruction on grading coins for the novice, so get an additional book if you want further instruction on that.

5 comments about The Official eBay Guide to Buying, Selling, and Collecting Just About Anything.

  1. While it is very outdated, it is still a good book for the novice who needs to get there feet wet.
This book has all the basic tools you need to get you started in the Ebay experiance but offers nothing to help you once your passed the basics.
There are some good tips on listing your items and using HTML code ect.
So, if you are already an experianced Ebayer then this book is NOT for you, but if you are a beginer to Ebay then you'll find this book to be very benifical in getting you started.

  2. I am very disappointed in this book. As most of the information in this book is outdated, this book should be selling on ebay as a collectors item. Much of the information that can be considered useful to the current ebay functionality is common sense. That is, the book did not reveal to me anything that a second or third time user of ebay could not have figure out.

  3. This book was probably very good in its day, but eBay has changed so much since it was published that it really doesn't hit things straight on. It has the basics of buying and selling, and is loaded with cute anecdotes. I've had gotten better information with the updated Dummies books on the subject.

  4. If you have never been to eBay then this book is for you. It will give you the basics of buying, selling, and searching on eBay. If you have any experience at all either buying or selling, then you probably already know the things in this book.

I was pretty disappointed in how outdated the book had become in just a short year. Ebay is always changing something, so some of the references are no longer valid.

  5. The Official ebay Guide gave me the basics to everything about ebaying. Answered many questions that I had from the past couple of years of ebaying & now wanting to get a whole lot more. This books raised many more questions that the book could answer. However it gave me the basics and left me in search of more detailed information. So, the book is just what it listed a Guide. Now I look for the Handbook to ebay.

4 comments about Flow Blue: A Collector's Guide to Pattern, History and Values (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. This book is a part of my Flow Blue research library. Jeffrey Snyder is a leading authority in Flow Blue collecting. His descriptions are clear and precise. His photography is fantastic.
The prices listed in this book should only be used for insurance purposes as the Flow Blue collecting phase swings with decorating fashions and colors of the times. In reality, you can find prices much more affordable than suggested in ths book.
Add this to your collection and you will enjoy it for years to come!

  2. This book gives readers a thorough understanding of what Flow Blue is, when it was made, how it was decorated and what it is worth. The pictures are terrific. However, a book would have to be huge to provide prices for every piece in every place setting (there are over 1500 patterns)! I'm tired of reviews from inexperienced folks who don't know enough to review responsibly. Get this book and judge for yourself. It's been around for years and is worth having!

  3. This book provides newcomers and long time collectors with hundreds of patterns in Flow Blue. The wares are organized chronologically by period and values are provided for the wares shown. For beginners the book defines the wares, details the decorations and how they were applied and provides information on the marks appearing on the wares. This is a very good book with solid research and beautiful photographs that will serve collectors well for many years.

  4. Just a simple question, right? Wrong! I paid a lot of moneyhoping to find an answer to my question. This book is for a collectorwho already knows what the flow blue pieces are worth. If you're a beginning collector, save your money!

2 comments about Paris Collection: French Doll Fashions & Accessories.

  1. It is a very good book. I saw it by an visit to a friend and decided that I have to purchase it. I was told that it was possible to purchase it on the net. Everything vent fast and OK.

  2. As a novice french fashion doll collector, I found this book to be very helpful. I learned about the different types of fashion dolls and what to look for before I buy one. It also gives great detail on the dolls accessories, especially their dresses. I also like the fact that this book contains patterns of original french fashion gowns so you could make your own reproduction of the real thing.

2 comments about Collector's Guide to Classic O Gauge Trains (Collector's Guide to Classic O-Gauge Trains).

  1. A nice reference guide book for a variety of great American O gauge toy trains. While it doesn't exhaustingly list every piece produced by each manufactor it provides a good cost reference for general pieces. Some of the manufactors are not very well represented (i.e. Hafner, Dorfan) and the color pictures only cover a few examples of each company's trains. Still, for the price, it is an essential general reference for the collector.

  2. This book is well done. It has clear photos, and is super-organized and delightfully written. The U.S. toy train industry grew and changed since the beginning of the 20th Century until the 1960 downturn. This book covers this time period and is a fine cross-section of all the major (and some minor) manufacturers and the history behind them from their genesis, who merged with whom, and who lost out in the long haul. I highly recommend this splendid toy train overview to the many amateur and professional collectors out there who will have a definite interest in this excellent publication. It's author, David Doyle, has researched the subject! From one model train collector to another, get this book. I give it a Fiver!
