5 comments about Ty Beanie Babies Winter 2000 Collector's Value Guide (Collector's Value Guide Ty Beanie Babies).

  1. i just got this book for my birthday and i have to say not only is it a terrible book, but it's completely useless to me. i don't even have any beanie babies. i think my nana gave it to me in hopes of getting me interested in these silly toys, but honestly, it's only made me hate them even more and feel sorry for the people who consider them a valid collector's item. what can you do with these puppets aside from display them on your dash board or "admire" them? that's not exciting. and it's definitely not fun. i'd rather take a nap. or collect stamps. atleast stamps will be worth something in 20 years. heck, atleast stamps are worth something right now.

  2. Very satisfied with the book. Extremely fast shipping and excellent communications from Fox Hill Books. Highly recommend.

  3. Ok this is a great book. I didnt buy it normal price (I got at a thrift store for $1 lucky me!) but its a nice find. I mean I am thinking of buying the newest one for 2001. But I think I might stick with the magazine. The reason is this book doesn't have all the beanie babies that were out in 2000 because it was published before they were out. For example I love the teenie babies 2001 but they are NOT in this because it was put out before they were put out. CheckerBee publishing puts out a lot of great guides, this is sure one of them. At least they put out one for Beanie Babies updated. Puffkins has ONE from 1999 and that is the ONLY one out there and they never update, and just like Beanie Babies they are always changing too. Well so I put 4 stars not five because of it not going to be as updated as you want. There is a great magazine Mary Beth she seems updated, or try to internet. But as a new collector and as a person who wants to see what they are worth or to see at least who goes with what name, this guide was great. Gives great information on beanie baby, retires, prices and check list. Cute pictures too. So if you need a view of them or a checklist this is nice. If you need updated stay with the mags and the internet! Ok? Peace, out. Beanie Babies Forever!

  4. I HAVE THIS BOOK AND I NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING WOULD BEAT THE MAGAZINE THAT I NOW GET MONTHLY. BUT, I MUST SAY, THIS IS A GREAT RESOURCE FOR BEANIE COLLECTOR'S AND LOVER'S. A MUST HAVE!

  5. I've just started collecting beanies since Dec. 99. Having no clue as to who was who of the beanie animals, this book gives me a great starting point. It has all the info on beanie B-days, retirements, and most importantly what is a reasonable price to pay for them.I'm not looking to re-sell them to make money but I don't want to go over board on my spending for beanies at the same time. Of course its not up to date as far as new Ty products, but I don't need that info immediately as I'm just starting out. It also gives info on tag generations and tush tags which is most helpful to me. The bottom line is, if you are new to collecting Beanies, get at least one of the Checkerbee series for reference. It helped me tremendously.

5 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia Of American Dinnerware: Identification and Values (Collector's Encyclopedia of American Dinnerware).

  1. I really love this book. I've used it many times to find the names of patterns I have from years of estate sales to sell on e-Bay. Great work.

  2. A wonderful beautifully done book. This is a great book for looking up patterns. There are plenty of color photos which show great detail. I plan on buying the previous and subsequent volumns of this book.

  3. While the book was somewhat helpful with listing the various companies, it was very short in pattern names, examples and pricing.

  4. Other than the photos, there isn't much here. It's very amateurish. Whole categories are missing -- there is barely a mention of "Fiesta" at all. Makes you think the publisher had an arrangement so as not to infringe on sales of their Fiesta books. There is no mention of Metlox. Also, while there is a price guide, it only lists the specific pieces that are shown in the photos, not all the pieces in the line. This is a major shortcoming. There should be some mention of pieces not shown. The book is also poorly organized, with ads from old magazines interspersed with original writing. It reminds me of an 8th grade book report. Spend your money elsewhere.

  5. The title of this book implies that it is an all-encompassing American dinnerware reference work. However, it is sadly lacking in both breadth and depth. Any collector would be well advised to look elsewhere. This work is so superficial that it is virtually useless.

3 comments about Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide (Warman's Antiques and Collectibles Price Guide).

  1. We am more than happy to add this book to our collection of books. While we have many reference books on various antiques, this book is a one stop reference guide to marks, reproduction alerts and valuable information on a wide variety of antiques. The pictures are a treasure and the price guide accurate for the times. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in antiques. For the beginner it is a comprehensive guide; for veteran collectors it is a fast reference on various antiques.

  2. General collectors who haunt garage sales and flea markets will want to keep the latest, 39th edition of Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide, edited by Warman's editor Ellen T. Schroy, in their cars or close at hand. Now sporting almost 1,800 color photos, this updated edition offers the latest prices and descriptions for over 50,000 items, ranging from furniture and military collectibles to pottery and puzzles. With its many small color photos and descriptions, it brings excellent organization across the board to a range of antiques and collectibles.

  3. I bought this book and actually returned it because on just about every page there is an advertisement for their other books. I found that very distracting and annoying. I do have their glass book which is very good but in the Antiques and Collectibles book they should just list their other books at the end and use the space for more info which it needs.

5 comments about Antiques 101: A Crash Course in Everything Antique.

  1. I found this book extremely helpful, accessible, and entertaining. The little chapter on demystifing French names of antiques in priceless. The chapter on woods helped me identify the various types of wood more easily when I'm antiquing, and helped me connect specific woods with eras and styles. Lots of practical information in a succinct format that's easy to grasp. What really sets this book apart is the large number of color photographs and illustrations. I've never seen so much high- quality color art in a book like this. It's incredible helpful to see a sharp color photo of what the author is describing. I recommend this book to anyone interested in collecting with more confidence.

  2. I bought this book hoping to learn how to tell the difference between different styles of furniture. I have to report mixed results toward that goal.

This book does an EXCELLENT job of describing the history of the different periods of antiques. I have no doubt now as to where the terms "Regency, French Empire, Queen Anne or Rococo" come from or what the driving forces were that brought about the changes in each style.

But the descriptions of each use many of the same terms. For example, Cabriolet legs are mentioned in several different areas. But not what would define what sets each type apart. Don't get me wrong, there are pictures of each style of furniture, but I would have liked to see some side-by-side comparisons how how to tell the difference between a Queen Anne versus a Centennial table.

As another example, when describing the Art Deco period, there are pages describing the World's Fairs of 1933 & 1939 as well as about the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building. Very interesting reading, but I would have appreciated more on how to define Art Deco items versus Retro.

In porcelain, the author describes German, French and British porcelain. Where it was made, famous potters, etc. But not how to tell the difference between them.

All in all, a very enjoyable book to read. And I did learn quite a bit from it. But not the basic things I would have expected from a book titled "Antiques 101."

  3. If your a novice or a seasoned antiquer you'll find great information in this book. It can be used as a learning tool for beginners as well as a refresher for those with the passion for anything antique. Lots of good common sense information contained in this book. A must read regardless, and a valuable addition to anyone's reference library. You will find the information in this book will more than pay for itself in the long run.

  4. Great for the beginner; wonderful for those who thought they knew it all; and just a nice way to become somewhat adept with basics.

  5. If you have some idea what a antique looks like, or even could tell that a object maybe old. Then this is the place to start, I personally would love to take the class.
