5 comments about Collectible Silver Jewelry: Identification and Value Guide.

  1. "Collectible Silver Jewelry" provides a brief, yet reasonably comprehensive, guide to silver jewellery and jewellery makers from around the world. This book covers most of the major silver jewellery producing countries of the world, including the U.S., Mexico, Peru, Scandinavia, the U.K., Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan and Siam, and for each country, it provides a guide to all of the main silversmiths and manufacturers of that country. For each manufacturer, a brief history is given, along with a photograph or illustration of the maker's marks used. A valuation guide (with pictures) is also provided at the end of each section to give the reader some idea of the style of jewellery produced in each country and its value (although this book was first published in 2001, all values were updated in 2005).

This book is very well presented. It is a large size hardback with glossy pages and full-colour photographs throughout. A glossary of jewellery terms is provided at the back, as is a detailed index, making this book very easy to use.

  2. This was a general book on Silver and I felt it did not go into depth. I do not like it as much as others but it covers many country silver jewelry.

  3. I haven't found another book that covers what this one covers. It is well organized and has lots of good photos. There are written commentaries about the various manufacturers of silver jewelry, discussions about mid century artisans, and great information about silver jewelry from Scandinavia, Mexico and other places in the world. There are additional resources in the back of the book and lots of information about hallmarks as well. I can go on and on but take it from me, this is the best book out there on silver jewelry.

  4. This book has been fabulous because it includes a broad span of silver jewelry, not just one specific type. It has helped me identify many pieces. Great pictures, great explanations. Includes many different marks. I love it and use it all the time.

  5. Whether you are an expert collector or a neophyte, you will find this book a valuable reference source. It is illustrated in full-color and covers the range of silver jewelry makers exhaustively, maker by maker, including illustrations of makers' marks.

5 comments about Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards 2007: The Hobby's Biggest And Best Price Guide (Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards).

  1. Was eagerly anticipating receipt of the book, but only received an empty envelope and a note from the USPS indicating that the envelope was empty. Don't know if I was more upset that the seller did not ship the book by a reliable method, or, that I received such a stupid note from the USPS. Maybe, I'll try to purchase this catalog from another vendor.

To the seller's credit, they immediately issued a full credit to my credit card.

  2. If you're looking for a one-volume price guide -- this is the one. Period. Forget about Beckett.

  3. An excellent and quite comprehenwive listing of baseball cards and their values. In fact there is only one set I know of, reviewed by Mr. Lemke a year ago in Sports Collectors Digest, that was not included in the catalog. Still, I would recommend it most highly.

  4. The book is better than most, of course, but it doesn't list many cards. For example, in the 2005 issue, there were cards listed, but in the 2007 issue, those cards were removed for some reason. Plus, in my initial issue, the pages were out of order in about 100 page increments. Thank goodness Amazon replaced it for me and the second issue was correctly paged.

  5. I ordered this for my baseball card collecting husband and am very disappointed because the pages are not in order. There is a very large section of pages out of sequence. It makes it very difficult for my husband to rate and price his cards. I would love to return this defective book for a correct one! Then perhaps my confidence in ordering through Amazon would be restored.
    Thank you!
    Regina Bartels

1 comments about Collector's Companion To Carnival Glass: Identification & Values (Collector's Companion to Carnival Glass).

  1. According to the preface of this book, this second edition has some different and more rare items than the first edition. It is meant as a companion to the first edition, and is not simply an updated version--good to know before buying. The pictures generally, though not always, are good enough to help a beginning collector identify patterns. The book lists the manufacturer and dates produced, and tells if the patterns have been reproduced. However, for a beginner, a wider range of patterns, particularly all the most common ones, would be most helpful. As a novice collector, I'd start with a different book--probably Edwards' Encyclopedia of Carnival Glass.

5 comments about Toy Car Collector's Guide: Identification and Values for Diecast, White Metal, Other Automotive Toys & Models (Toy Car Collectors Guide).

  1. Do not spend your money on this and all Dana books.Unless you want to see a bunch of letters and photos of listed cars that are not a collector items.Majorette items do half of the book.If you are lookin for a book on die cast models cars, buy something by an english.

  2. I've just seen this book at a local bookstore. I was pretty excited when I found it and started to browse. But then, I became a little disappointed! The author gives a few pages to companies like Corgi and Dinky, and far too many to Majorette. I would say that the Majorette part is almost one tenth of the book! Overall the photos are pretty good and there's some good information too.
I didn't buy it, but maybe I would later, and only if I find it at a very, VERY, low price!

  3. The books has many companies listed and gives histories but gives a generic price range. I mainly purchased this book for 1:18 scale models and was sad to see that a roughly half of my collection is not even listed in the book.

  4. This book has a review on almost every kind of toy car, but leaves out the prices of a lot of them. There is almost no selection for hot-wheels, but there is a lot of selection for matchbox. My problem is that I have cars with no model numbers, which makes this book useless. I was able to find ERTL and a few others I had though.

  5. A great new, year 2002 softbound 336 page volume. There are more than 800 brands of cars included, from 1910 to 2000. An interesting history is provided, as well as current values and buying and selling tips. The book covers Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Corgi, Johnny Lightning,Tomica and more. There's detailed information about scale, evaluating models, and insights into buying and selling. Comprehensive guide for the collector.

4 comments about The Encyclopedia of Pepsi-Cola Collectibles.

  1. This is the only Pepsi guide book that I have, and I'm not real happy with it. It is inadequate, hardly scratching the surface of all the Pepsi collectibles out there.

As with most other collectibles guides, the back index leaves much to be desired. I guess the author agrees because he omitted it completely. Big mistake.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of Pepsi guides out there, like there are for Coke. But that doesn't mean this one is the "bible" of Pepsi collecting; it doesn't come close. I'm hard-pressed to figure out why others have written such glowing reviews for it.

It's pretty, but it's incomplete, the prices are all over the map, there's no back index...but there's very little competition.

  2. A very nice reference book and worth the money for collectors or fans of Pepsi.

  3. The Encyclopedia Of Pepsi-Cola Collectibles is an amazing resource for collectors and dealers. Nearly the entire book is devoted to full color photographs of everything ever made by or associated with Pepsi-Cola, from slogans and trademarks to containers, cardboard inserts, cans, bottles, caps, a wide array of merchandise and much more. Offer a wealth of historical and background information on the Pepsi-Cola bottling company, along with authoritative and reliable price estimates for Pepsi-Cola collectibles, The Encyclopedia Of Pepsi-Cola Collectibles is a superbly presented and essential guide for the dedicated Pepsi-Cola enthusiasts!

  4. A brand new, year 2002, hard-bound library volume containing 256 pages with more than 2,000 large, full color, sharp photos of every type of Pepsi collectible. Current values are shown. Items are listed by category, including signs, containers, novelties, toys and accessories and paper items. Sufficient text is included, covering Pepsi Collectibles, Reference Guide, History of Pepsi, History of Pepsi Trademerks and Advertising Slogans. I found the "Paper Items" section particularly interesting. Add it to your library.

2 comments about Effanbee: Dolls that Touch Your Heart.

  1. I own many F&B collectible dolls----especially the older ones. I refer to this book very often. This book is well written, on very nice paper, and with wonderful photos.

  2. This descriptive book does a wonderful job of cataloging the various Effanbee dolls and their history. Numerous pictures (B&W and color) add tremendously to the value of this book for doll collectors interested in identification (price guides are also included for individual dolls).
