4 comments about Miller's: American Quilts: How to Compare & Value (Miller's Treasure Or Not).
- This is the kind of informtion I need. Brief history of the type of quilt, things to look for that make one quilt more valuable than another within the design catagory, interesting informative bits and realistic pricing guidelines (at least from what I know first hand). This is the kind of book for which I would like to see periodic updates. One of the best pricing guide books for quilts out there. THe only reason I did not give 5 stars is that I wish it were even larger !
- This is a wonderful book. It shows you a lot of classic quilt styles and compares two excellent versions of each style. All the quilts are priced, and the reasons for the valuation of each quilt are explained with easy-to-understand call-outs. My only regret is that this book hasn't been turned into a series. Whether you're a experienced collector or a newbie, you'll love this book!
- Enjoyable format allows for either casual perusing or more serious study of quilts, their history, design and value. Good pictures and useful, easy to interpret information. Highly recommend.
- If you need a quick way to learn the styles and values of American Quilts, this book is for you. Though I don't agree with the comparison values on some of the quilts, I find that those new to collecting and identifying the quilts in today's market will find this book helpful. This book provides an overview, not a comprehensive study.

5 comments about Warman's Matchbox Field Guide: Values And Identification (Warman's Field Guides Matchbox: Values & Identification).
- It's hard to believe that so much information is packed into such a little book. It's the big little book for Matchbook collectors. The photo quality in this book is second to none. Although the prices of these gems are always in flux, it is great to have an updated price guide. The history, collecting tips and listing of online resources contained in the book are treasures in and of themselves.
- Most Matchbox guide books are encyclopedic in size. This is the first one I've found that is easy to take with you to toy shows, garage sales, and flea markets. The photos in the book are outstanding. The helpful collecting tips are well-written and are sound advice for collectors. All in all, I'm very pleased to recommend this book. Mine already has considerable wear, and I'll probably be needing another one by Christmas (hint to family)!
- This book is very welcome as it will increase many people's enjoyment of collecting Matchbox models. Due to its easy availability and reasonable price it may even attract some more people to this wonderful hobby.
With its compact size it is ideally suited for carrying around to toy shows and flea markets, where it can be used as an aid in identifying models one might come across.
While experienced collectors may be slightly disappointed at the lack of detail and some embarrassing and sometimes misleading mistakes (which have no doubt been caused by the tight deadline pressure under which the book was written), this book is perfect as an introduction for beginners.
The quality of the many pictures is first class, and the introductory pages in the front section of the book, including a well-written summary of Matchbox history and useful collecting tips, are a must read for anyone interested in the subject.
Congratulations to Tom Larson on this fine achievement!
- Upon reading this new book from Tom Larson,it has finally shown that there is room for a pocket guide amongst all the other "big" heavy Matchbox collector books. This book can be carried easily anywhere you want. Study up on your Matchbox hobby as you go about your travelling. Carry it to Toy Shows, diecast conventions, and even to the local antique auctions. It is small,light, full of brightly colored, well shot photos of all your favorite Matchbox cars and trucks. There is even some rare vehicles,sets, and other accessories shown. With accurate Price quotations for "Mint In Box" models,you are surely to enjoy this work for years to come.
For the price, you can't beat it!
Definitely worth every penny.
Finally, a beautifully compiled Matchbox toy car collectors guide.
It will be a hit, Just watch.
Thanks Tom :)
just another fine book in the Warman's series.
Kudos to Krause Publications for jumping on this one.:)
sincerely

- This is one fine little book. The pictures are superb and the text is short and concise. This book would work well for the seasoned collector as well as a collector that is new to Matchbox.

5 comments about Fashion Doll Price Guide Annual 2000-2001.
- The book is complete, that is; you should be able to find whatever you are looking for back as a reference for numbers and years but the values mentioned are extremely high. Just follow on-line auctions for a while and you know that the "real life" values are.
Almost text only. You cannot use this book without a picture book to accompany it.
- I really enjoyed this up to date price guide. The first few days I sat w/ my pink highlighter and outlined my collection, much of it was within these pages. Loved all the pictures!

- Since buying this book, I have referred to it many times. If you are a Barbie collector or trader this book would be very helful. I use it everyday for just that reason. The pictures in the front are great. The large price guide section is as well. Not only vintage & comtemporary Barbie's but many accessories & other items. I was happy to find a section on Gene dolls, which I am just becoming familiar with. Very happy with this book purchase.
- Sure, there are prices for just about every single Barbie item every made, but it's much more. This book is very helpful in looking up what item goes with what outfit, the year it was made and the stock number/name. The photos are very helpful to clearly identify which doll you are looking at. I especially like the price guide for the individual vintage accessory pieces. This year Gene and other fashion dolls were added too. Knowledge is power. You can't know too much about your hobbie/collection.

2 comments about Warman's Beatles Field Guide: Values And Identification (Warman's Field Guides).
- Bought this for a stocking stuffer for Christmas. My husband, a huge Beatles fan, loves it. My teenage son, another Beatles fan, covets it. If I had known how much they would like it, I would've bought two of them. They are particularly interested in old vinyl records. This doesn't list them all, but it is still a handy reference guide for the items it does list. Note that it only lists US record releases, not the UK records. Though it has its limits, it was a great little stocking stuffer for the price (68 cents plus shipping). Beware that, though this item was advertised by a marketplace seller as "used, like new", it did have a marker stripe across the bottom of the book. Didn't bother us, but it isn't quite "like new" for those giving it as a gift to discriminating recipients!
- This pocket guide to Beatles collectibles is a handy reference for those wishing to value their own collections or add to them. I learned that my copy of Vee Jay's "Introducing the Beatles" album will not be funding my retirement, since it is in fact a counterfeit. The section on U.S. Beatles releases is useful; clear instructions are given for discriminating among the many variations that exist.
The most annoying feature of the guide is a doltish essay by one Chris Nickson. This uninformed commentator goes on about the importance of "George's" "Baby, You're a Rich Man." You don't have to be steeped in Fab Four lore to know that this is a Lennon-McCartney song. How did this error make it through Editorial? It undermines the Guide's credibility. Nickson goes on to archly dismiss most of the Beatles' music. "Get Back" is "not worth the vinyl." Get this guy out of the 2nd edition, if there is one.
The book's other essays are also superfluous. Why include an article about the Moptops' solo careers when the Guide does not cover albums and merchandise from that period? I wish the section on British LPs, allegedly brief due to space constraints, had been expanded; omitting those essays would have freed up a lot of space.
This book, while not masterful, is nevertheless useful for the many of us who don't know whether we own treasures or trash. Buy it, consult its tables of price information, but don't read it.

4 comments about World Notgeld, 1914-1947: A Guide & Checklist and Other Local Issue Emergency Money.
- Very good book of german notgeld, other countries are listed, very fews pictures of other countries
- This book says it all in the title, except I'm not sure what they mean by guide. There is a short introduction of the author blah, blah... The notgeld is listed and easy enough to find but no information, like engraver/artist, where it was pressed, how many were made or how many in circulation, in fact it tells you nothing (and most do not not photos) except there is a general/vague 1-7 scale of rarity with no pricing or suggest value. this was merely a checklist.
- An excellent reference to all kinds of Notgeld from many countries.
Table of Contents
* Introduction
* Issuing Cities: Alphabetical by Countries
* Periodical Abbreviations
* Bibliography
* Country Abbreviations
* Issuing Cities Alphabetical
The introduction gives a fairly thorough explanation of Notgeld in English and German. The book is designed as a checklist with a box to mark off as you find what you want. It makes no pretence to pricing. The Bibliography is extensive enough to be worth the book alone.
- This guide contains a list of emergency money issuing authorities, mainly cities. The reader will see many images, some of them in color, to have an idea of how interesting collecting emergency money may be and will have access to a bibliography which may help to search for a more comprehensive information.

5 comments about A Movement in Time With Breitling & Rolex: An Unauthorized History.
- Book was shipped out and arrived in 3 days.
Poor picture quality was my first impression, a few grammer errors noted.
The history on Breitling and the role the company played during the ealry days of flight and both World Wars was very informative. It picked up here. Nothing new on the Rolex history. "How to spot a fake" was well written and I am sure will help many readers.
- There are not many (Three) books on Breitling watches. This has to be the best I have read, Yes it is the most current but it has the full Breitling watch history.
It is a shame the author also included Rolex watches. I feel the Rolex is just hype and does not come close to Breitling. They just have a better marketing team.
The book starts of the Breitling history when Leon Breitling was a child working in the cottage industry making watch parts for watch companies. It then expands throughout the life of Leon, his son and Grandson. To where the company is today. Throughout the various stages of world history, War and the birth of flight the author has included the watches and some very nice pictures of early pioneers wearing Breitling watches.
I found the additional information on Cartier and Rolex interesting but it was not needed.
- If you are a knowledgeable (or even semi-knowledgable) watch person wanting to add to your library (or a person who thinks that a book, any book, should be proofread before being published) avoid this book - the pictures are worthless (I should have known by the out of focus cover shot), the writing/grammar beyond terrible and you will not learn one thing new. Plus the paper quality is below that of a 49 cent coloring book at Wal-Mart.
Save your money and buy anything else.
- The good points: The history on Rolex and Breitling I found enjoyable to read and very interesting. I liked the way the author matched certain events in history with the watches. The sections on how not to buy a fake will be helpful to me. The sections on Cartier and Omega I found interesting reading but this was not why I purchased the book.
The bad points: Some of the picture quality was poor; this was a disappointment to me and let the book down.
I was going to give it a 3 star but the jokes on watches at the back did make me laugh so I give it 3.5 stars.
- I bought the book for the history on Breitling and that is exactly what I got. I have never read just an in-depth history on the company. The sections on how to identify fake watches I found exceptional. We seem to have so many replicas flooding the market nowadays. A new up to date book was needed. I have read the reviews here and see some are unhappy with the picture quality. I don't think they are the best, but this is the history of the watches and has pictures of early pioneers and watch wearers such as the red baron and his tri-plane. I doubt they had digital photography back then,
I was not previously into 'Ball' watches but since reading the history I have now purchased one. I agree with some reviews here, it is not as good as the Hess/Dowling book, but good value for money.

3 comments about Mt. Washington Art Glass Plus Webb Burmese: Identification & Value Guide.
- What's not to like? The pictures are beautiful and the information is good. Prices are accurate too. One of the few items in my short history of collecting glass that I've found actually can be bought and sold for the prices listed. My only complaint is that a number of times they picture the same item twice. We love pictures, surely there were enough items available that pictures didn't have to be repeated.
- Author Kenneth M. Wilson passed away before publication of his opus MT. WASHINGTON & PAIRPOINT GLASS - but he reviewed and approved the page proofs and had written two chapters of the projected second volume (which will be prepared in future using his research materials and illustrations), so nothing lacks in MT. WASHINGTON except the author's ability to enjoy his finished product. The Mt. Washington Glass Works and the companies after it make up America's second-oldest glass manufacturer: the factory opened for business in the mid-1800s and spun off another business in silver plating. Glass collectors will find MT. WASHINGTON & PAIRPORT GLASS the definitive encyclopedia of the manufacturer's works: the volume has been long awaited by collectors and provides an extensive company history to compliment an in-depth coverage of its many products. Chapters come packed with black and white and color illustrations and photos, providing descriptions and color illustrations of all glasses and silver-plated wares and reviewing design, craftsmanship and unique attributes. Add indexes of patents and trademarks, glass decorators who operated in the region from 1867 to 1902, and illustrations of ads, production records and more and you have a truly outstanding reference.
- We have waited a very long time for a comprehensive book on this beautiful American art glass and Betty Sisk has provided us with a treat for the eyes! The photos are beautiful in full color and plentiful. I did not know that such examples of this artform existed until feasting on this book. All collectors of art glass must add this to their libraries. The information with each type of glass is insightful and just enough to ready the reader for the pictures to follow. The insight provided is both scholarly and from a collector's perspective. Prices are given in a fair range to give a fair market value. And what pictures there are to enjoy! Many glass types are well covered for the first time. This book will set a very high standard by which all other references on this glass will be judged in the years to come. We indeed owe the author a debt due to this subject's neglect until now. This is a must buy! We have waited a long time to get this book-thanks Betty!!
