5 comments about Collectors Encyclopedia of Hall China.
- A lady I know worked in Halls china in East Liverpool Ohio, she loves looking at the book and telling stories about the plant and the time she worked there. She has a lot of the china and I find myself collecting it. This book is a great help, and I am very thankful to have found it.
- This is a must have for Hall China enthusiasts. The format is clear and easy to follow. There is so much great information with pictures and pricing info. for a wide variety of Hall China pieces. I carry the book with me whenever I am shopping at Antique Stores looking for Hall China.
- The edition is as complete a guide for the mian lines of Hall China as you can probably find, however I think the photo layout and quality were better int he previous version.
- The Whitmyers obviously worked for years and simply produced "The Informative Reference" to the wonderful Hall China Company and its long production of products. If you love Hall China, this is the book that you HAVE to have in your library. Packed with facts, photos, information found nowhere else but in this volume. Through the help of dealers, collectors and friends; they were able to show Hall's artistry and employee craftsmanship at its finest.
The color photos pop from the pages as the digital up-to-date photo process allows for this volume. It is so wonderful to see so much Hall China and accessories one might never have a chance to see otherwise if it were not included in this book. Hats off to the Whitmyers and all those who allowed them to photograph such fabulous collections.
- This is one of the best collector reference books I have ever seen. It is laid out in an easy to read and refer format and the pictures are fantastic. It contains well over 100 pages on teapots alone. Descriptions are clear, interesting and well written.
This is a perfect addition to the Hall China or teapot collector's library.

1 comments about Evolution of the Bicycle, Vol. 1 (Evolution of the Bicycle).
- This is a great book to see wonderful pictures and to experience what made some of the earliest bicyles different. Each picture comes with a small description of the bike, such as year and name. This is quite helpful in determining if you really bought what you think you did.
This book is a must for every bike Enthusiast, and a gotta have for all vintage or modern bike collectors. I give it 5 stars!

1 comments about Warman's Lalique: Identification and Price Guide.
- I bought this book to help me price things for online purchases and estate sales. It's a pretty book. The pictures are fantastic. The organization is also good. Items are listed alphabetically by category, such as ash trays, bowls, figurines, vases. Within each category items are listed alphabetically by pattern name. This makes it pretty easy to find items. Prices are under each picture, as well as which company signature is used, which is convenient and useful for authentication. Some pictures show several items and occassionally it isn't clear whether the price is per item or for the entire photo. Unfortunately, the book just doesn't cover enough items to be useful. Most of what I try to look up is not in the book. It's a well organized book that needs to be four times bigger! So if you want a nice paperback coffee table book, this is it. If you're looking for one to help you with purchases, find something else more comprehensive.

3 comments about French Furniture : From Louis XIII to Art Deco.
- I'm an interior designer who collects important period 18th century French furniture. This book IS THE MOST EFFICIENT general reference to the particular periods covered and a minute step beyond the basics and generalities. For serious collectors & those who have already done their major homework - it is doubtful that you would attain additional knowledge from this book.
- If you only have one reference book in your library on French Furniture, this is the one. For the beginning collector, the book provides clarification on terms and furniture types. For an appraiser, it's a great resource to help with identification of those forms which you do not see very often. There are only sketches, but they are clear, and provide very good detail. For those who simply want a better understanding of French furniture, this book is put together very well, and is easy to follow.
- I am new to the techniques and methodologies of identifying French furniture. This book provides a good glossary of French terms which describe the characteristics of pieces and it provides a modest description for the common pieces made in the various styles. Line drawings and sketches provide examples of the characteristics described in the text. There are no photos, but the sketches are quite good. I'm rating the book a four because I think there should be more sketches. Not all the items described are exemplified with a drawing. Otherwise, this is a great book for getting started. The content is clear and does not bog down in minutia.

5 comments about The Official Price Guide to Dolls.
- In answer to the last review, the book has 900 photos. Nearly all dolls have pricing for both eBay and also non-eBay sources, and the methodology for pricing is clearly set forward in the first chapter. Each secton on a particular doll also has a market analysis for that doll.
- I found this book not up to par with some other doll collecting guides I have. It doesn't have enough pictures. I don't know how the author came up with some of the values. -It seems she just searched Ebay to find what the dolls were worth, I could have done that.
- This book was helpful in finding the value of some dolls, the pricing was pretty acurate compared to other books
- I think that this book is very helpful, lots of information for a very resonable price
- Once you start collecting one type of doll, your eyes start noticing all the other dolls as well and you begin to realize that dolls have an important connection to fashion, art, history, and technology. The Official Price Guide to Dolls by Denise Van Patten gives testimony to that thought shared by many avid doll collectors.
I like her easy-to-read format of the doll listings and photos. Her contemporary presentation of up-to-date facts prefaced in each category give straightforward details regarding the dolls' features and histories. Investors and buyers alike will find the pricing information helpful.
Denise does a super and thorough chapter on educating the doll collector on how to use the Internet and Ebay for buying and selling dolls. This informaion is priceless for many who are anxious to learn about this important technological impact on doll collecting and how to get started. She generously shares her best tips and pitfalls one should be aware of.
The book itself is of managable size and fits in your purse to take to a doll shop, show or museum. It is well worth the reasonable price for a great reference tool plus it makes a sweet beside book of dreams for the insatiable doll collector.

4 comments about Barry Halper Collection of Baseball Memorabilia.
- The pictures are indeed magnificent, however, I must demur about the accompanying text which does not provide appropriate, tightly written or in some instances, historically accurate information.
- This is an incredible reference, especially for uniforms. The pictures and detail are amazing, and you can generally tell what people thought was real, and what people did not from looking at the prices. The attention to detail in the descriptions is really helpful in identifying stuff today. I wish there were more photos, and sometimes I wish there was an acknowledgement of some of the controversey surrounding some of the items. I really am in awe of the folks who put together this beautiful book, and the incredible pictures. I think this is a great starting point for anyone collecting seriously.
- Only one word describes the catalog set.....INCREDIBLE. As a life-long baseball fan, collector, dealer, etc, this set of catalogs, pictures in beautiful crystal clear color, many of the artifacts of America's National Pasttime. Many people were upset at Halper for breaking this collection up. Contratry to that opinion, I believe breaking the collection up allowed SO many people to share in the history of the game. Five million dollars worth of collectibles were purchased by MLB for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Twenty two million dollars worth were auction in the Sotheby's auction and an unknown amount on amazon.sothebys.com. These catalogs contain relics from every facet of the game......baseball cards dating back to the 1880's.....team and individual photos dating back even farther.....uniforms, bats, balls, gloves from nearly every hall of famer......personal trophies like triple crown, Cy Young, MVP and so much more. Nowhere will you find such a book that illustrates why Baseball is woven through the fabric of America than this catalog. The lot descriptions are carefully crafted to be both a history lesson and a thought (and pocketbook) provoking snapshot of baseball. Never again will there be such a collection amassed. No one has the access to players and probably the funds to acquire such a collection....you get a glimpse at everything important about baseball. Everything good about baseball.....you forget about the strike of 1994, you forget about the high paid cry babies of today and remember the guys that played the game for one reason.....the love of the game. There was team loyalty, work ethics, and so much more that baseball and America as a whole is sometimes seriously lacking today. Spend the bucks.....you won't regret it......
- This is the Hall of Fame of baseball memorabilia, without equal. Halper had put together a collection of almost every baseball-related item that could be collected, and these catalogues display most of that collection, including lots of items that you never would have thought even existed. The pictures of the items are terrific, and are worth the price just by themselves. But in addition, this post-auction printing also includes the final bid prices for items in the auction, so it seves as an excellent "price guide" for rare and unusual material - memorabilia you certainly won't find in Beckett's guides or other more generic price references. And, for those of us that think of some of the final bid amounts in terms of hefty mortgages rather than hobby expenses (e.g., $305,000 for a Lou Gehrig jersey!) the book is great fodder for dreams, however unattainable they may be...

5 comments about Fisher Price Toys: A Pictorial Price Guide to the More Popular Toys.
- This book is terrific! Tons of color, detailed pictures. I am a collector, and use this book to help identify which tiny accessories I need to find or identify. Invaluable! The focus is on toys from 1964-1990 ONLY, so if you collect from other periods this isn't the book you need. If you collect Little People (pre-1988), you need this book! I hope the authors will update it, with the "new" Little People included in a future edition.
- I love this book. IT is a MUST for any new and seasoned Fisher Price Collector, especially those who collect Little People. The Pictures are great and the descriptions are excellent. I love this book, and my kids enjoy looking through it as well. It brought back so many memories from toys in my past, and ensures I know what I am getting myself into if I decide to make a purchase as a collector.
- THIS BOOK HAS MANY COLORFUL PICTURES AND ACCUARTE DESCRIPTION OF EACH. I TOO HAVE JUST STARTED COLLECTING FISHER PRICE TOYS AND I FIND THIS MAKES MY SEARCHING MORE ENJOYABLE. THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR THE OVERALL TOY COLLECTOR AND THE FISHER PICE COLLECTOR.
- this book is a real treasure. I've just begun collecting Fisher Price toys the pictures and info are of great help. Friends/family who look thru this book also get a lot of pleasure from it and will reflect back over what toys they had as kids etc...I'm real happy I made the purchase.
- This is a wonderful book! I loved the vivid pictures and descriptions of the playsets. If you love and collect Fisher Price, this book is for you!!
