5 comments about Disneyana: Guide to Pin Trading.
- This book has alot of pins but the organization makes it hard to find a specific pin. It would be better if it had an index by character.
- For the people who complained about the lack of index... how could anyone possibly index that many pins. The index would be as long as the book is. The table of contents is perfectly adequate for narrowing down the page. After that the hunt for the pin is half the fun.
- Dinsey pin collecters and traders will enjoy seeing all the pictures in this book. It is the best source for info on the pins but being the only source, they don't have to be that good to be successful.
Criticisms include the fact that they don't list ALL the pins- you have to buy more stuff to get info on the overseas them park pins, Disney store pins, online pins, and others. Finding a pin can be very difficult also as their index is unclear on many items. You have to know where the pin was released to find it in the book and many of us won't guess right on that question. Some of us would like the pictures in the book to be a little bit bigger, too. A final criticism is the price of the book for the numbers of pages- it's expensive.
For someone who collects, the book is indispensable but it is a very imperfect work.
- The book was nice, and I enjoyed the estimated values of the pins, but to be quite honest - the index was absolutely horrible. It is near impossible to find pins wihtout searching through several pages. It would have been great if they had the pins listed by number instead of whatever system they have came up with. Hopefully they improve on this in the next edition.
- Although it can be difficult to find the items you are looking for it is fun to just look through. A serious collector would probably take this book more as a guide.

2 comments about The Teddy Bear Men 2nd Edition: Theodore Roosevelt & Clifford Berryman.
- Here it is. Everything you wanted to know about the cartoon that started the teddy bear craze 100 years ago and more. Linda's research is incredible and her writing style is very warm and personal, sort of like teddy bears. The book is also packed with illustrations in both color and black and white. I especially liked reading the history of Berryman, and how the cartoon of Roosevelt saving the bear came to be, about the two cartoons depicting the famous event 100 years ago, and about how Roosevelt did not actually spare the life of the bear tied to a tree, just refused to allow it to be shot. Any arctophile worth his or her salt should have this book in their collection! Bravo on a fine volume, Linda!
- As an adult collector of teddy bears, I have read many summaries regarding the 1902 Presidential bear hunting trip and the Clifford Berryman cartoon that began America's love with the newly created "teddy bear". Almost every book for adult collectors has some version of this story in its introduction. I found Linda Mullins' The Teddy Bear Men to be a superior and detailed account of the real story. Mullins wisely included the highlights from the November 1902 accounts from The Washington Post, which clearly recounted how and why a bear ended up being tied and presented to President Theodore Roosevelt for him to shoot. Washington Post cartoonist, Clifford Berryman, then portrayed this incident in a cartoon, which may be familiar to many collectors. The cartoon bear that evolved from this initial cartoon became Berryman's artist symbol ("dingbat") and linked the teddy bear (both the Berryman cartoon and the toy versions) to President Roosevelt's political career. This book is a well researched documentation of Clifford Berryman, Theodore Roosevelt, and of the significant contribution they made to the rise of the first teddy bears. It is presented in a reader friendly manner, with a well written text, short chapters, and many photos and drawings on each page. I found this book to be both intelligent and enjoyable.

4 comments about A Study of Colt Conversions and Other Percussion Revolvers.
- I own two of the actual revolvers pictured in this book that I acquired from large personal collections, and I eagerly reference my copy every time I acquire one of these rare pieces from the transitional phase of Colt's cartridge revolver development. It is thoroughly researched, and every model is dissected and thoroughly photographed. Not just the guns are featured here, but the leather! There are rare military and civilian holsters pictured here that you may never see in three collector's lifetimes!! N.
- As a historical shooter of percussion and western arms I bought a replica of an 1860 Richards Army conversion and then found an absolute dearth of information about it. Mostly all that could be found were references to this type of weapon but little information. McDowell's book fills a longstanding void about this transitional era in firearms between percussion and cartridge. This is a definitive work with substantial documentation that resolves what is an inherently confusing topic. These types of revolvers are being made now with the growth in Cowboy Action Shooting and shooters are always avidly interested in the history of their weapons. This is a plethora of photographs and diagrams which resolves the sequence of development of these types of arms in such a way that the student of these arms can get a full understanding of their circumstances of development. With this book a great void in firearms history is perfectly filled in.
- When I opened this book for the first time I thought: "too long an intro. But I was srong anything in it is there for a purpose. It's rare to see such a work. Bravo !
- Excellent study of the various models of cartridge conversion revolvers. It's all here S & W, Colt, Remington, and others. Great photos of the guns. Well documented and researched with details of every gun right down to how many were produced and any variations during production. Reccomended to anyone who desires to know more about the early cowboy guns before the 73 Peacemaker came along.
