Ms Martini, an avid and well known collector has tried to give us a book which is usable and friendly in the amount of color photos - however, there is a paucity of written information and this puts the reader at a loss for learning, further education and good comparisons of writing instruments. This is not a true learning tool but a good shopping guide. The publisher has turned out better books in varied areas so should try to provide a more thorough text in the future - Ms Martini has the skills, knowledge and collection she needs assistance in translation and more word space.

1. Just found this book after buying 2 other bad privately published egg cup books that only listed author's own collection (mostly chickens) with descriptions and prices. No help. This book is very professional and actually explains the different categories of egg cups and for the first time in my 15 yrs. of collecting, I now have a good knowledge of the different types of egg cups. My humble thanks to the author



2. This is a great book. Someone has finally separated out all the different types of egg cups that exist. A mind-boggling effort by author Blake. So helpful.... gives the reader a basic knowledge of all types of china, silver, glass, etc. ... and egg cups were made from all kinds ofmaterials. Fun reading, in layman's language, a truly wonderful book for anyone who collects any types of smalls.



3. As a beginner pocillovist, or egg cup collector, I found this book very helpful. Its color and black and white photos were numerous and well done. I even learned that I was a pocillovist -- I never dreamed that there was a word for the hobby of collecting egg cups -- pocillovy! I only wish that the book had a detailed index. Several times I found a name imprinted on a cup and I wished I could look in an index. Instead, I had to page through sections on Specialities, then Major Producers, then Other Countries. Nevertheless, this book is a must for egg cup collectors.

1. Anne Anderson's tome on the cube teapot is without doubt the definitive history on the subject. Of special interest to steamship china collectors is the impressive number of photographs showing the cube tea service in use on board the old Cunard ocean liners. There were a number of different patterns applied to the service and Anne provides us with an excellent photographic reference of each one. Loaded with vintage photographs, this book is a must have for collectors of this type of china. I am so happy to see books like this documenting something that would otherwise be lost forever that I am reluctant to offer criticism. The narrative in the book, while thorough, could use a bit more editing to smooth it out. There are several typos in the book as well as instances of paragraphs with random facts thrown in that are irrelevant to the main idea being presented. Hence my rating of three stars.



2. I purchased this book to learn more about the cube shaped (and space saving) tea sets used on the Cunard ocean liners in the 1920's through the 1960's. It is a wonderful resource for collectors of ocean liner memorabilia but it also tells a facinating story of the development of the cube teapot. This book discusses the English pastime of taking tea and the quest to design the perfect teapot. The end result was a patented cube design produced in beautiful, collectible colors and patterns. This book is a must for collectors and history buffs alike. Happy reading!

1. I like gemstones more than money.
   
   Originally written in 1943, a textbook classic on gemology, for students and a self-instructor for jewelers. 21 sections comprise notes on the formation of gem materials and the chemistry of it. Includes refractive index, color, and specific gravity. This 4th edition has a new section on luminescence and electrical effects.
   
   Diagrams and charts. 210 pages, British book.

1. I needed a thorough reference to complete an appraisal on 2 19th century Perry & Co. chandeliers. The pictures were gorgeous. The history is very thorough and the chapters on Types of Lighting and Restoration were very helpful. I think I know why chandelier designers and restoration specialists call this the "Bible".

1. This book is full of items the collector needs to know about. How many times have people (I know I have) passed up on great items to collect, simply because they were not sure that an item even existed, as a "real deal" collectible? This book has been well researched by the author and provides the collector with a great resource and guide, a true collector should not be without. A great addition to the library of any Beatles' collector or fan.
