1 comments about Krause-Minkus Standard Catalog of U.S. Stamps 2003: Listings 1845-Date (Krause Minkus Standard Catalog of Us Stamps).
- I thought having a book that had a cross reference of Minkus and Scott stamp catalog numbers would be great. After using the Krause-Minkus Standard I have my doubts that this catalog is all that useful. I had problems with several sections of stamps not being listed and many listed incorrectly. Several stamp pictures were swapped around and several have the same Scott catalog numbers even when the denominations were different. As I said it was a good attempt at combining the two different publications into a single catalog but I feel that more time should have been taken to edit and proof the work prior to publishing. I think that if Krause-Minkus were to provide a credit to those that had purchased the 1998 edition it will keep some collects using the Krause numbers. I for one would ask for a refund or a replacement 1999 catalog.

2 comments about Barbie Exclusives: Identification & Values Featuring : Department Store Specials Porcelain Treasures & Disney (Barbie Exclusives).
- If you have any love of the English language, and are able to tell good photographs from bad ones, you will truly dislike all of the books by this woman that I have read, including Barbie Exclusives volumes 1, 2 and 3. The text is virtually unreadable, almost completely devoid of any real information, and is generally a painful experience. The photographs are almost equally bad, ranging from grainy yellowish shots, to lovely ones in which box-front glare almost obliterates any details of the doll inside. Truly, you can do much better than this series! Try the Collector's Encyclopedia of Barbie Doll Exclusives and More by J. Michael Augustyniak.
- Excellent and informative book. Was able to locate dolls and pricing from book that I could not find in other books! Great pictures, comments and descriptions!

4 comments about Handbook of Handguns: A Comprehensive Evaluation of Military, Police, Sporting and Personal-Defense Pistols.
- First of all, the title was misleading, second, the author threw in a few chapters of instructions on making guns trace-proof, how to make zip guns, and other extreamist rightwing jargon. On the other hand, the rest of the book is informative, and provides a nice overview of handguns in general. So, its a good book to have if you are thinking about aquiring a pistol, but not for details about specific guns.
- This book is quite disappointing. It's title is misleading, since it is in no way "A Comprehensive Evaluation of Military, Police, Sporting, and Personal-Defense Pistols." Mr. Mullin does not evaluate any particular pistols. He does go into the history of the pistol in general and he discusses certain points about revolvers and automatics and calibers, however, this book promises a lot and delivers little. Anyone with a basic knowledge of handguns will find little new or worthwhile here.
The "chapters" of the book often consist of a page or two and offer no real useful information or advice. The author also loves to speak about himself and even includes himself in his list of "shooting notables"...a highly questionable inclusion! One definately gets the impression that Mr. Mullin loves himself and Smith & Wesson, but he doesn't give shooters new to handguns what they need. I don't want to bash a fellow gun-lover, and Mr. Mullin does offer a few points of interest, but anyone looking for good info on handguns is better served elsewhere. If you are looking for a real evaluation of handguns, try books by Gene Gangarosa Jr. Also, a great book on almost all other aspects of handgun shooting, training and concealed carry is "The Gun Digest Book of Combat Handgunnery" by Massad Ayoob. One reviewer here (Midwest Review) quoted the back of the book and then gave it 5 stars. I think it gives every book it reviews 5 stars...I would question that and would suggest that Amazon check into that reviewer's practices and (fake?) reviews. I give this book 1 star.
- Useful for the reader, like myself, who knows nothing about handguns. But wordy, poorly organized, and assumes knowledge of guns (&gun acronyms) that novice readers don't possess. Still, this is apparently the only up-to-date reference available on all aspects of handgun ownership, so worth owning for that reason.
- In Handbook Of Handguns: A Comprehensive Evaluation Of Military, Police, Sporting, And Personal-Defense Pistols, Timothy Mullin presents a comprehensive and authoritative discussion on all aspects of handguns. This invaluable and informative reference will enable readers to choose the right pistol for their purposes; shoot a handgun accurately with both the strong and weak hands, as well as with two-handed grips; learn the gunfighting rules that give the best shot of surviving an gunfire exchange; arrive at the proper handgun/ammo combinations for specific scenarios; determine which modifications can make a handgun better (and which are best left undone); whether or not to carry spare ammo and/or a spare gun; considerations for carrying concealed weapons; selecting an appropriate carry method for any situation; setting up a shooting school curriculum; and even collecting handguns for fun and profit. If you are contemplating obtaining a pistol, or how best to care for and employ and pistol you already own, the Handbook Of Handguns is an invaluable reference and highly recommended reading for your safety and well-being.

- This book is extremely comprehensive. Every magazine you could ever want to know about is listed in here. I highly recommend it. There are also great inserts on collectable posters and bands like Kiss, The Doors, The Beatles, Grateful Dead, Annette Funicello, Buddy Holly, Fleetwood Mac, Jimi Hendrix, The Buckinghams, and Rod Stewert. I just wish there was a more recent edition. Add this to your shopping cart now!

2 comments about The Pipe Book.
- This book has lot of informative history of tobacco and tobacco smoking. The stories incouded were not only interesting but also full of intrigue. It includes a description of different pipes and their uses. I very much enjoyed learning about the humble beginnings of the Dunhill family. It does make a wonderful coffee table book. VERY WELL PLEASED!!
- While this book is filled with fascinating drawings of strange and unusual pipes from around the world, it is certainly not one of those "just sit down and read it from cover to cover type books." Think more of an "a to z" dictionary of pipes. As a novice pipe smoker, I was hoping for something more informative on the actual mechanics of pipe smoking. I would highly recommend The Perfect Pipe by Jeffers or, if you can find a copy, Weber's guide to pipes and pipe smoking.

2 comments about Rookwood Pottery Identification and Value Guide: Identification & Value Guide : Bookends, Paperweights, Animal Figurals.
- This is a good book for the beginning Rookwood collector. But for those more interested in the earlier, artist produced pieces, this book will be no help as it focuses more on the later mass production wares.
- This book is an absolute must for the Rookwood collector. The most complete survey of Rookwood figurals and paperweights available in the book marketplace today. The book gives very accurate market value estimates for each item and ranks each item's rarity from "never seen" to "common". The authors, however, deserve great praise for the scholarship which allowed them to identify the Finisher's responsible for the "Finisher's marks" occasionally impressed into the bottom of some Rookwood pieces. Having potter's names associated with these marks insures additional valuation increases for many examples of Rookwood pottery both artist signed and production. A terrific book and a great addition to any collector's library!

4 comments about 2004 Comic Book Checklist and Price Guide: 1961 To Present (Comic Book Checklist and Price Guide).
- I want the prices to the comic books
- Disregard the review about the "2001" date on the pages -- I have their 2001 guide and all the information in this edition is new and different from that. I asked the publishers and they said their production department put the wrong headers on the top of the page. A mistake which has no effect on the book at all!
- Now in a fully updated 8th edition covering 1961 to the present day, the 2002 Comic Book Checklist And Price Guide from Krause Publications is the premier annotated reference for just about every saleable and collectible comic book published in the last 40 years. 2002 Comic Book Checklist And Price Guide is an authoritative, succinct, thorough, indispensable, and very highly recommended price guide for comic collectors, hobbyists, dealers, and auctioneers seeking to determine a fair price for their product. In addition to the exhaustive price lists, and informative introduction explains the basics of comic book collecting, as well as the system by which comic books are graded in terms of their quality.
- Although this book is very well set-up and useful, I question whether it actually has updated information in it. The intro section (pages 1-12) are labeled "2002 Comic Book Checklist & Price Guide", but the rest of the pages in the book (13-741) have "2001 Comic Book Checklist & Price Guide" on the top of the page. It appears to be last year's guide wrapped up in a new cover and intro section.
