1 comments about Antique Trader Answers to Questions About Antiques & Collectibles.

  1. This is a pleasant book to browse through. Mr. Husfloen uses his knowledge of antiques and collectibles to adivse his readers about the value of items that they own. The information is presented in a question and answer format with an accompanying photograph of the object in question. You can pick up the book at any chapter, read several entries and put it away for another day.

2 comments about Toys & Prices 2007 (Toys and Prices).

  1. What is has is good, I thought it would cover more toys, specifically LEGO, especially it seems like such a relevant and important toy product. This did not have anything on LEGO, I was quite disappointed. I also thought that the hot wheels, matchbox (toy cars) in general could have had better coverage.

  2. I picked this book up in a hurry...didn't have time to look around and only could hope that it would help guide me in my vintage toy search.

No only has the guide provided accurate information, it is a guide that is acutally EASY to understand and quickly find what you are looking for. Other guides, not limited to toys, have been difficult to find the exact item you are looking for...but not this one...even my husband can do it...hee hee!

    Excellent and Highly recommend!

5 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Electric Christmas Lighting: Identification & Values (Collector's Encyclopedia).

  1. This book represents a major effort in the field of Christmas lighting collecting and research. Great pictures, perhaps a bit haphazard in the way they are laid out (no chronological order) but this will be many people's only way to see some very rare and unique items. A wonderful coffee table book!

  2. It was really worth the wait. this book on Christmas lighting is more than I ever dreamed of. Wow, all those color photos. the information is great, gives the maker, country of origin, date made, and the most realistic values of any of the collector type books I've seen. Just can't get over all those items. The part in the back that gives the information for the companies is something I never expected to see. With this information I can date, value, and know more about my items than I ever thought possible. My hats off to the authors, A Christmas Book worth buying!

  3. i own every book available on christmas, especially those to do with christmas lighting. this book has it all. not a lot of boring details but thousands of great color photos. one picture is worth a thousand words! i own mr johnson's and mr brenner's books. boring details and just the junk of the christmas lighting. this book treats the lighting with top billing and just not a filler as in the other books. highly recommend. happen to know that these two authors only sell their junk items on ebay. most collectors who know anything are also dealers!!!

  4. I agree with George's review. A multitude of photos in this book, but no history of the items is shared with the Reader; just photos and arbitrary values in a very general (and I mean general) organization. I was hoping for more history of Christmas Lighting and decorations in this country. How America's tastes changed through the decades, how technology changed manufacturing lights and decorations over the years. Information that's missing from current collector book marketplace. Well, we still didn't get it.

In my opinion it appears that these two "collector" authors collected to amass huge collections just so they could photograph them for this book. This can be proven because one of the authors is currently dumping their "photographed for this book" collection via online auctions. It's unfortunate they did not collect because they loved vintage Christmas items like so many of us, and wanted to share their knowledge and collections with other collectors.

There are other books out there I'd recommend before this one. Namely George Johnson's books.

  5. I was somewhat disappointed after receiving this book. Although there are a huge amount of pictures of various Christmas lighting sets, the organization was poor and there was precious little information about the history of electric Christmas lighting. According to the bios of the authors, they reportedly amassed a great deal of knowledge in their field of collecting, but precious little of that knowledge has been shared with the reader.

2 comments about The Book of Fountain Pens and Pencils.

  1. Here is the classic book for the fountain pen collector. It shows lots of pens, provides a value guide, and gives you plenty of information about the pens, the companies. The photography is top notch and you wont have to squint to see what the authors are trying to show. Loads of really rare pens also, so there is something to be on the lookout for. I really like this book and also have it in the limited edition of 300 with the leather cover.

  2. If you want a book with lots of colour photos to compare and admire, then this is the book for you.As all coffee table books, not exactly overflowing with information, but has more than the usual.

3 comments about Miller's: Glass Fact File A-Z: Pocket Fact File (Miller's Pocket Fact File).

  1. This slim volume is a storehouse of invaluable information. With over 6,000 entries, GLASS FACT FILE provides the collector with a resource which will be referred to again and again. Besides the entries, there are sections on bottle marks, museums with glass collections, glass collectors' clubs and associations, and Internet resources. The attention to detail in this volume is simply amazing!

  2. Contains a mountain of concise, accurate and easy to use data. Small pocket size makes it easy to keep with you at auctions and sales.

  3. Aptly titled "fact file," this is an extraordinary resource for quick and handy information on GLASS in practically every category one might wish to explore (manufacturers, methods and techniques, types and designs, marks and signatures, etc.) Arranged alphabetically (with helpful cross-references), the author has assembled a massive amount of material -- over 6,000 entries! -- covering all aspects of glass world-wide, from the 1800s to the most recent productions. Precise, concise, accurate, and happily affordable, this comprehensive volume is destined to be an indispensable reference source for all students and serious collectors of glass.

3 comments about Collector's Guide to Made in Japan, Book 2: Identification and Values (Collector's Guide to Made in Japan Ceramics).

  1. I collect older (collectible) MADE IN JAPAN items and therefore I have quite a few books on the subject. This book is not complete but quite helpful. Photos are nice.

Many different volumes have been written on this subject. Infact, I own 3 other books on this subject.

When "Made in Japan" collectibles were issued there were sooooo many different items sold, that it would be impossible to include all of them in just one book. The author tried and did a good job though.

  2. Carole Bess White has put together an exhaustive reference work on Japanese ceramics from the early 20th century to today. Her extensive research really pays off in this book, crammed full of photos of all types.

Bess covers everything from ash trays to water sets, candy dishes to salt & pepper sets, Satsuma to souvenir plates. I especially like the many photos of various backstamps (marks) she provides. The book has over 250 pages of photos, and includes catalog pages from current novelty producers. If you're interested in collectible ceramics "Made in Japan", don't hesitate to buy this book!

  3. Book #2 is every bit as good as the first one. NO REPEATS !... and new information on the companies that made these delightful pieces. Color photos, marks and all the information you need. Ms. Whites books are getting like potato chips to me.. you can't have just one!
