5 comments about The Cream of Strawberry Shortcake Collectibles (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. Brought back a lot of memories as I grew up with Strawberry Shortcake. Has lots of cool pictures, but wished there was more printed information to read - basically it's just a picture and title of each item.

  2. Well, she's getting there. This book contains a great background section and tribute to the doll collector who has been providing all the information and items shown in the books photos (Jennifer of Strawberry Shortcake Central). Dolls, minis, and toys are not included in this collector's rendition. Instead, Schiffler focuses on pretty much every other SSC item that was created. I thought this book was amazing and didn't realize how many other creations there were bearing the Strawberry Shortcake logo and theme; everything from clock radios, purses, ornaments, the many books and comic books, furniture, and much more.

  3. ... *** This is an excellent book for the serious Strawberry Shortcake collector of ornaments, musicals, jewelry & hair accessories, books, puzzles, cards & gift wrap, party supplies and more. There were 3 Strawberry Shortcake books produced, there is one for dolls called "More Strawberry Shortcake" if you are looking for doll information. This book has 'no' doll information but was not intended to, it is called the "Cream" of Strawberry Shortcake because it is the cream of the crop when it comes to these special items. This book does in fact have many rare items in it, I have been a serious collector for years and use this book as a great guide for ebay almost daily. Would very highly recommend it if you are interested in those type of items that I listed above would be in it. It has wonderful photos of these highly collectible items. Good luck with your collecting!

  4. i think the book was very helpful to me on the prices
and the pictures. this way i have an idea of there is out there to collect yet

  5. This book is a waste of money. Not all dolls are pictured. The pictures which are included are usually wrong (Party Pleaser pet with non-PP doll). It's a collector's nightmare. There are pictures of a lot of non-doll items, but not too many rare items. Anyone just getting into SSC collecting can gain more knowledge by checking out the auction sites.

2 comments about The Pipe Book.

  1. This book has lot of informative history of tobacco and tobacco smoking. The stories incouded were not only interesting but also full of intrigue. It includes a description of different pipes and their uses. I very much enjoyed learning about the humble beginnings of the Dunhill family. It does make a wonderful coffee table book. VERY WELL PLEASED!!

  2. While this book is filled with fascinating drawings of strange and unusual pipes from around the world, it is certainly not one of those "just sit down and read it from cover to cover type books." Think more of an "a to z" dictionary of pipes. As a novice pipe smoker, I was hoping for something more informative on the actual mechanics of pipe smoking. I would highly recommend The Perfect Pipe by Jeffers or, if you can find a copy, Weber's guide to pipes and pipe smoking.

3 comments about Successful Stamp Dealing: Tried & Tested Tips & Techniques.

  1. I really enjoyed this book. It covers nearly all aspects of stamp dealing: owning a shop, doing mail sales, auctions, and bourses - although the omission of Internet trading is a minus. The foreword by the legendary Herman 'Pat' Herst is effusive but accurate. Mosiondz is a US dealer with a very sober, down-to-earth approach. He makes it abundantly clear that if you intend to make a living in stamps, you should realize that it requires attention to the same business basics as any other field - and he goes into a lot of detail. His bottom line: success will surely come, but only to the dedicated, disciplined professional. Much of the wisdom in this book is valid around the world and would apply equally to trading in many different collectibles. As someone who has dabbled in stamp dealing, I would recommend this book to anyone. It's good know-how at a bargain price.

  2. This book is previewing the real life of a stamp dealer. The book provides useful info to any stamp collector which couldn't find it anywhere else.

  3. This book was disapointing as it covers nothing new and fails to cover aspects of stamp dealing on the internet. Since a lot of stamp auctions are now done through the internet, perhaps this is a book more suitable for those who are primarily focussed on local American markets. Definitely not recommended for international buyers.

4 comments about Vintage Vanity Bags and Purses: An Identification & Value Guide.

  1. I feel that Ms. Gerson's book is truly ground breaking. Having written "Vintage Purses at Their Best" and "Vintage Compacts & Beauty Accessories" I can identify with how difficult it is to list, photograph and place values on items that are rare and unique--especially when there has not been much written on the subject previously.
Ms. Gerson was one of the first to do this.
In all fairness to her, I believe the title of her book "Vanity Bags and Purses" implied "Vanity Bags and (Vanity) Purses"--therefore creating some unintentional misunderstandings.
I would recommend any of her books to collectors and dealers alike.

  2. I have a large collection of vintage handbags which a local museum wanted to display, so I needed to establish values. This book was of no help as it is mostly vanity bags. I ordered this book because the other books listed for sale were too old to have current prices. I am still seeking a CURRENT book with prices to value my 100+ purses! Do not buy this book unless you want to learn more about vanity bags, as there is next to nothing about vintage (beaded or mesh) purses in this book!

  3. I was disappointed, but it was my own fault. If I had seen the book before buying, I would have realized there was almost NOTHING about vintage purses, whuch is what I am interested in. However, there are more pictures of Vanity purses than I ever IMAGINED existed! The book is literally bursting with pictures of EVERY type of vanity bag imaginable. I found very little text except to describe the pictures, but if you collect vanity bags, you're certain to find a picture in this book similar to something in your collection. Unfortunetaly this wasn't much help for me.

  4. Photographed well, great detail, identification on bags and purses wonderful. A must buy for dealers.

1 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Lefton China: Book III (Collector's Encyclopedia of Lefton China).

  1. I was disappointed in this book. Beautiful pictures and ok info, but not enough examples of Lefton china. I have several inherited pieces which are clearly marked. Found only 1 in this book. I guess if you can afford to buy a large library of hardback books, finally you find what you are looking for.

2 comments about Twentieth-Century Ceramics: A Collector's Guide to British and American Factorry Production (Millers).

  1. The review below appreciated the concise information on makers, but not the SUPERB quality of the photos! I bought this book because I couldn't put it down -- and I'm not a collector. What a way to develop an appreciation of the variety of truly beautiful wares available! Every collector or general aesthete needs this title for the well-chosen and beautifully photographed examples. A sleeper price-wise, and not to be outdated in terms of breadth, now that the 20th century is over...

  2. I first looked at this book at the library, then decided it was informative enough to purchase for my own china collector's library. It doesn't have prices which many do...but it has wonderful descriptions of the manufacturers and good color photographs. Used in conjunction with a Warman's book, you will be able to identify most major china manufacturers. I reccommend this highly.

4 comments about Collectible Glassware from the 40S, 50S, and 60s: An Illustrated Value Guide (Collectible Glassware from the Forties, Fifties and Sixties, 6th ed).

  1. The book has no index and the table of contents is only pattern names and not manufacturers. Although this book has great pictures, unless you specifically know what you are looking for; it is difficult to find things in it.

  2. Very pleased with this book. Many large, clear color photographs. Great variety of china and glassware included.

  3. The information in the book is interesting but not specific enough. Pages of pictures but do not name the pieces and sometimes it is difficult to know which piece is which. Also, can't really see the patterns very well; maybe so he can sell the book that just has patterns.

  4. Gene Florence is the premier expert on vintage glassware. He does the collectibles industry a great service by having clear pictures of glassware that's often very difficult to photograph. Each edition differs enough in content to warrant a second look. He tries to add a few new patterns every time. For those he repeats, he adds different pieces and new finds. The nest part is that he has a lot of knowledge about the glassware companies and reproductions that he shares with the readers.
