This hefty volume provides all the necessary information that a collector needs: prices of four grades, metal composition and weight, coin picture, mintage, dates, mint and a KM number of every coin. Additional useful appendices are also included, which can faciliatete the task of identifying cryptic coins (using this book, I've identified three previously unidentifiable coins!) My only criticism is that the coins appear in black and white. A color verion might augment the price, but at least in some parts, this is a must -- For example, when the authors explain how to grade coins, one can hardly see the difference between Unc and AU, or XF and VF. I also found one coin missing from the Israeli catalog, but other than that this is an excellent collector's reference.

1. What a pleasure it is to write a review of this beautiful book. I originally read this book when it was first published. I was new to antique jewelry and had a million questions. This book is just an indispensible guide for those starting out. Her knowledge is solid, as is her advice (avoid broken, shop around, if you love it buy it!) I know many self-proclaimed experts that would benefit from reading this book. All the basics, well written and organized. BUY IT!

1. I found this book most helpful in identifying true vintage ornaments as well as their value. It covers in great detail why specific materials were used for a given time including the color variations. It also contains stories and cuts from celebrations long ago which I found very informative. I came away with a great deal of knowledge and will carry this with me on all my hunts. Highly recommend!

1. This book was acquired just a couple of weeks ago. I look forward to various price guides each year, and this is a definite on my list. What Toys & Prices brings is a very informative and useful tool in the ways of collectible merchandise. From action figures, to board games, to toy cars. This baby has it all. And as a price guide, it is worth the money you pay.

   If you are in the collectible field as I am, you know that finding a price for various items can be difficult. This book tries to cover all relavent information. Though not perfect, I find that the listings are thorough and the prices are fair. There are many price guides on the market that try and dictate how a collectible should be selling. They raise values each year, sometimes to the extreme. Toys & Prices and the people at Krause are completely fair and do much research to determine the values of the items they list. They use many sources, from retail sales to online auctions such as Ebay.

   So if you need a reliable source to seek a true market value of your collectibles, look no further than Toys & Prices by Karen O'Brien at Krause Publications. You can find many many items inlcuding Viewmaster, Disney, models, Pez, and much more! It's well worth the money.

   My choice of 4 out of 5 stars is because I think it should even be more informative. I'm a stickler to include many things, though I know space is always a limitation. I'd rather pay $5 more and get much more info. But I was told by Karen that they will try and rotate some of the categories used year after year. Coloring books, which is rather a newer type of collectible, was removed. But possibly it will be reinserted every 2 or 3 years to keep the collector informed that there is still a market for items such as these, but is not an active one with price increases. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book.

1. Ronald Pearsall's Illustrated Guide to Collecting Antiques deserves the highest salutation for its excellent graphics, pictures and illustrations. This book is indeed captivating, it would certainly catch the attention of the reader notwithstanding whether he/she is an antique enthusiast or not. The author included a wide variety of antique collections from the usual collectibles like furniture, chinaware, coins to the unusual ones like dollhouses, tobacco pipes and ceramic figurines. One important point raised by the author was that any knick-knack might end up being considered as an antique as long as it is rare and there are people who are interested in the collection. As the book was written from a western point of view, it is less relevant for the Malaysian antique collectors. What might seem collectible in the west may not even be appealing or available for the eastern collector. For example in South East Asia, peranakan furniture and chinaware are some of the most sought after antiques. However in the west, this collection does not seem to have its corresponding demand. It is dully noted that the author hypothesis that antique collection is more often unique to a certain geographic location and a certain time period. The secret to a successful collection is the right timing and the right place. Overall, this book would be very well recommended for readers who are interested in collecting antique as a hobby or business. Although the depth of the subject is questionable, nevertheless this book remains captivating and exhilarating to any curious reader.
