2 comments about Warman's Bean Plush Field Guide: Values and Identification (Warman's Field Guide Bean Plush: Values & Identification).

  1. While this book doesn't include every beanie ever made, it does have 1,200+, with a clear color photo for every one listed. About 70% of them are Ty, which makes sense because that's by far the most popular maker. And the photos are big enough to easily identify the beanies. It's got the best photos of beans and Ty tags that I've seen in a beanie book. It's not an exhaustive manual, but it does have a lot for its size. After all, it's a pocket field guide, not an encyclopedia.
Also, it has a lot of information and tips on how to buy and sell beanies on eBay. While the prices are lower than secondary store prices, they're right on for eBay. Overall, I'm really pleased with it and I definitely think it's worth the price.

  2. I bought this book today because I'm an avid Ty collector. There are so many Beanies not listed, and hardly any of the various other types of Ty products. Also only a few pages of each of the other brands of plush when I know there are so many products. This is just not a very complete book. If you want a much better, although still not perfect Ty collector guide, go to Bangzoom Press and buy the Beanie Babies Value Tracker from them.

2 comments about Electric Lighting of the '20s & '30s.

  1. I ORDERED THIS BOOK TO ACTUALLY LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT THE LIGHTS
OF THE PERIOD COVERED BY THE TITLE. I AM SAD TO SAY THAT I KNOW AS MUCH NOW AS I DID BEFORE GETTING IT.
IF YOU ENJOY LOOKING AT B&W (SOME COLOR) PICTURES OF REPRINTS OF OLD
LIGHTING CATALOGS , THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. IF YOU WANT INFORMATION TO BECOME A MORE EDUCATED COLLECTOR OR DEALER ,FORGET IT. THE "REVISED PRICES" IS A PIECE OF PAPER STUCK IN THE BOOK. THE LAMPS ARE NOT GROUPED
AS TO TYPES , MAKERS , YEAR OF INTRODUCTION , OR MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION.
I AM AN ADVANCED COLLECTOR IN OTHER AREAS AND AM VERY AWARE OF THE INFORMATION USUALLY PROVIDED IN OTHER SINGLE SUBJECT BOOKS. THIS BOOK HAS
NONE OF THIS . IT'S REALLY JUST A PICTURE BOOK WITH ARBITRARY PRICE LIST.
ABOUT THE ONLY GOOD THING I COULD SAY ABOUT IT IS IT IS CHEAP.

  2. This is the year 2001 updated guide book with new pricing. It features 124 pages loaded with black and white (and some color) photos of every type of electric lighting fixture for the period. The photos are very large, detailed, and sharp. Main topics include Angle Lamps, Art Deco, Bed, Desk, Floor Lamps, Glass Shades, Hanging Lamps, Novelty Lamps, Table and Wall Lamps, and many more. Each photo is fully described with the original catalog descriptions. The new updated price listing is in the back of the book and easy to use. Collectors of this grouping will find the book interesting and useful.

2 comments about Elvis: The Official Auction Catalogue.

  1. LAS VEGAS - December 1999: a 3-day ELVIS auction at the MGM Grand Hotel from the archives of Graceland and Colonel Tom Parker. Over 850 items, from a sigar to a car, were beeing auctioned.

Every auction has it's catalogue and so did this one, although you needed to buy this book to be allowed to attend the auction live. The catalogue is huge, softcover, over 300 pages with a foreword written by Jack Soden and Lisa Marie Presley. The book contains 3 parts: a 50s, 60s and 70s part. From most items a picture is included and the expected salesprofits are mentioned.

Items vary from huge amounts of official RCA documents, cards from JFK, Frank Sinatra and others, the Colonel's desk (rated between $30.000 and $40.000!), jumpsuits, jewelry, signed cheques, promtional material (posters etc.), a signed baseball, a horse saddle from Elvis' favorite horse ("Rising Sun") etc. etc. etc.

Although most items weren't and aren't affordable for the average Elvisfan, it sure is fun to see all these famous, interesing and sometimes weird items, once belonging to Elvis. For die-hard Elvisfans only.

Note: $1.5 million from the profits from this auction (over $5 million) went to a charity project called "Presley Place", a new to built centre for the homeless people.

  2. This book is a must have for a true Elvis fan. It is a beautiful book to be put on display in your home and will receive rave reviews from anyone who picks it up. The shiny, gold cover will catch everyones eye. Just knowing that all the items featured were TRULY a part of his life is awesome. Pages and pages of Elvis memorabilia with a description of the item and a short story about it. It will take you days maybe months to read all the detailed descriptions. Pictures galore and you will recognize many of the items from his movies. The person who ever thought to save everything and anything Elvis ever wrote, drew, read, wore, etc. was a true psychic who knew that one day Elvis memorabilia would be so treasured (some say it was the Colonel). This book was the only thing I purchased from the Elvis auction and it turned out to be enough. It truly gives you an idea of who the man was and what he was about. Failing geography but getting A's in music tells it all.

1 comments about The Gun Digest Book Of Semi-Auto Pistols.

  1. This is a a collection of ten magazine-like articles on random subjects (hearing protection, some gun reviews) making up 80 pages and an 80 page out of date price guide. Very useless. I highly recommend Gene Gangarosa's books. They have history and reviews of the guns.

3 comments about Fifty Years of Collectible Glass 1920-1970: Easy Identification and Price Guide : Tableware, Kitchenware, Barware and Water Sets (Identification and Price Guide , Vol 1).

  1. Great book for the avid collector of 20th century glass. Arranged by style, this reference book is easy to use. What would make this book a 5 star book? More color photographs would make this an unbeatable buy.

  2. This book lives up to it's title "Easy Identification"....I would recommend it to both new collectors as well as the experienced one! Loads of background information on glass companies as well as values!

  3. The great thing about this book is that the patterns are arranged by type of pattern rather than alphabetically. When trying to identify something, an alphabetical listing isn't a lot of help. Having patterns arranged by whether they have diamonds, flowers, flutes, hobnails, etc. makes a lot more sense and I wish more glass books were organized in this fashion. The authors have done a great job. If there is anything about this book I would change it would be to have more of it.

2 comments about Collins Machetes and Bowies, 1845-1965.

  1. The book has alot of information. I own one of the old Machetes and it was quite interesting to read about it. I would highly recommend this bood to anyone owning a Collins Machete.

  2. Since I appear many times in the text of this book as an observor, as a facilitator, and as a source, it may be considered presumptuous for me to review it. But since I am competent to do so, here goes. Ed and I knew each other from 1971 when we first met. Since I am in MD and he was in CA our face time was limited but we kept in close touch by snail mail and phone. He made many trips to the source at Collinsville and I dug a large amount of materials out of the National Archives, Smithsonian, and the Library of Congress. Since Ed focused strictly on Collins products and only on the sub lines of machetes and I am interested in all military edged tools and cutlery as well as axe work in general, we overlapped our interests. Is this the book I have written or would have? Certainly not, but I know for certain that it is all in focus and, unless there is a new vast discovery of documents, if there is anything more to be known about Collins machetes you can put in a very small pot. By focusing as he did Ed was able to find things that I never did nor even thought to look for. The ultimate test of this kind of book is is it interesting, and is it useful? I think it is so, and I wll be able to chop out all the corporate history which was in my original work and refer the reader to this one. Carter Rila

2 comments about Handbook for Hard Plastic Dolls.

  1. This is a wonderful little pocket guide for all of us who have ever scrambled to try to identify a doll at a show or flea market! Great tips and resources for the beginning collector and a handy reference guide for the veteran doll lover.

  2. This book was rather disappointing compared to the Judd's previous books about hard plastic dolls. It might be a good book for the beginner to carry to doll shows or antique stores, but it has nothing new for the established collector. Hard Plastic Dolls I and II are better buys.
