1 comments about Heddon Catalogs 1902-1953: Over 50 Years of Great Fishing.
- I read through this at the library. The Heddon heritage is kept well alive with this book and any fisherman or collector would be missing out if they don't read about Heddon's legacy. Because of the Heddon family, we now have a $30 billion dollar recreational fishing industry supporting over 300,000 jobs.

5 comments about Antique Tins Identification & Values: Identification & Values.
- I borrowed this book and the other two in collection from library first to see if I wanted to purchase. I do not. The variety (you need all 3 books) and photos were wonderful. But NO DATES. You have absolutely no idea when any of these tins were made. I personally want some idea even if rounded out to decade or two. If this is not as important to you as it is me than great book.
- A book that every collector should have on hand. Helps identify, grade and value your tin. Great wish book. Would highly recommend to all.
- Great photography. Let's the collector have a source at his hand that helps identify, grade and value their tin. Would highly recommend to all collector's of tins as a great resource. The author's love of the hobby shines through with with this book.
- Great book for the tin collector. Nice pictures, acurate values, collecting tips, grading scale. Highly recommend!!! Cover of this book is different than what is showing here.
- Beautiful updated hardback book featuring more than 1,600 sharp full color photos of popular collectible tins. Many of these tins do not appear in other books. Items are in groups such as tobacco tins, baking powders, coffee, candy, oilers, etc. 17 major catagories are included. It provides grading examples, where to find tins, and evaluating their condition. The pictures are a pleasure to view.

1 comments about A Dictionary of Marks: Ceramics, Metalwork, Furniture, Tapestry (Antique Collector's Guides).
- Although this is a handy book in that it includes marks for ceramics, metalwork (American and U.K.), furniture and tapestry all in one book, finding the marks is a bit of a chore: you need to know where an item is made, or who made it to find the mark easily. If you know that, you probably wouldn't need the book. Also, few marks after the mid 1800's are included. Still fun to browse as it includes some good information and tips.

5 comments about Antique Typewriters & Office Collectibles: Identification & Value Guide.
- Both veteran and beginners alike will enjoy Darryl Rehr's book on antique typewriters. The best feature is of course the pictures that are generally very crisp and in color. The short descriptions of each model are useful as well. This work is a handy reference, and after collecting typewriters for twenty years, I find myself always referring to it. However, as with most collector books of this type, one must use the information contained here with some reservation. For instance, nothing is footnoted, and that is a particular problem if one wishes to check information when performing research. Footnotes are sometimes the most interesting feature of a work because they can provide useful cross-references and leads to other sources that one may not have thought of. The second problem, and again this is to be expected with most collector's books, is that the prices cited for scarcer items are inaccurate even for 1997. Typewriters may not be as popular as baseball cards or antique furniture, but there is an international market for them to which prices are set. In fact, one typewriter listed as worth $5,000.00 was actually, in 1997 prices, worth at least $15,000.00 and in today's market valued between $20,000.00 and $33,000.00! My point here is that though this work is useful, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the subject, buyers should be aware that this is only a guide and that if he or she has a typewriter to sell, it may be wise to check beyond these pages and contact the many collectors out there for accurate pricing information (like the ones listed in the acknowledgements section at the front of the book).
- I thought this book was great, regarding some complaints about price guide: It is impossible to place a standard market value on typewriters. why? 1) the market is far too small, they are not like baseball cards or comic books
2) there are only a few that are actually considered rare, i cannot tell you how many olivers or underwoods i've seen listed as: "very rare" prices are are determined by the individual collector. example: i happen to like the old maroon portables, mainly royals, this means that to me they are worth more than say the more rare royal flat-bed. they are, however far from "rare". there were something like 600,000 underwood no.5's made. most of them seem to be around...
- WHO WOULD WANT THIS BOOK
Anyone that like typewriters, is nostalgic about them, collects them or can't afford to collect them (space-wise or money-wise). This lovely book contains pictures and brief descriptions of old typewriters -- there are many beautiful and crisp photos and some brief descriptions. There's also a small appendix with other office machines (calculators, pencil sharpeners, etc). WHAT'S NICE ABOUT THIS BOOK The pictures. Definitely the pictures. I could never tire looking at them. WHAT'S NOT NICE ABOUT THIS BOOK It's hard to criticise what is clearly a work of love. Some people mentioned that the prices are off. But I would like to focus on other aspects; Perhaps some of these can be fixed in further editions: - There's very little treatment of foreign typewriters. This is a pity because different languages posed different mechanical challenges to typewriter manufacturers and it's nice to see how they overcame those difficulties. It's also nice to see other alphabets. :) - It would have been nice to include a sample of the text produced by each typewriter. Just to see the various typefaces. An index of typefaces/typewriters and their samples could have been nice to have as an appendix, so that people could match samples they have (old letters, notes, etc) with the typewriters that could have possibly been used to write them. - A bit more prose -- a more thorough description of the mechanical aspects of these machines would have been a nice thing to have.
- 175 pages with more than 400 beautiful, sharp, full color photos of everything from typewriters to ribbon tins, early calculators, pencil sharpeners, and more. Gives the history of typewriters, information on rating conditions, restoring and shipping typewriters. A very interesting and useful reference. The value guide prices could be updated, but the basic information presented is still very helpful.
- "Antique Typewriters & Office Collectibles" is an essential guide for both the serious and casual collector. Hundreds of beautiful color photographs allow for quick identification of different brands and models while the text provides interesting histories. The only flaw concerns the pricing guide, which is reliable in terms of relative (but not actual) values. Many of the typewriters pictured are currently selling for upwards of five times the prices quoted by Mr. Rehr. (For example, I recently sold a model valued at $10 by the book for more than $60.)
Without "Antique Typewriters," however, the universe of typewriter collecting would be even more chaotic than it already is. Highly recommended.

2 comments about Collins Machetes and Bowies, 1845-1965.
- The book has alot of information. I own one of the old Machetes and it was quite interesting to read about it. I would highly recommend this bood to anyone owning a Collins Machete.
- Since I appear many times in the text of this book as an observor, as a facilitator, and as a source, it may be considered presumptuous for me to review it. But since I am competent to do so, here goes.
Ed and I knew each other from 1971 when we first met. Since I am in MD and he was in CA our face time was limited but we kept in close touch by snail mail and phone.
He made many trips to the source at Collinsville and I dug a large amount of materials out of the National Archives, Smithsonian, and the Library of Congress. Since Ed focused strictly on Collins products and only on the sub lines of machetes and I am interested in all military edged tools and cutlery as well as axe work in general, we overlapped our interests.
Is this the book I have written or would have? Certainly not, but I know for certain that it is all in focus and, unless there is a new vast discovery of documents, if there is anything more to be known about Collins machetes you can put in a very small pot. By focusing as he did Ed was able to find things that I never did nor even thought to look for.
The ultimate test of this kind of book is is it interesting, and is it useful? I think it is so, and I wll be able to chop out all the corporate history which was in my original work and refer the reader to this one.

4 comments about Standard Catalog of World Paper Money: Specialized Issues (Standard Catalog of World Paper Money Vol 1: Specialized Issues).
- This book along with occasional use of the WEB has enabled me to identify currency from countries that not only do not use english style letters but the number systems as well. The text has both some color and a lot of black and white photos of currency along with a brief description of what the note is called. The pictures enable positive ID of a piece of Cucurrency. The book is a must have for the serious collector.
- This book is invaluable source of information for both collectors as well as dealers of modern banknotes. The major flaw, however, is the unrealistic UNC catalog values for most banknotes. The majority are exaggerated and no one can sell at even 50% of such CVs. However, the book stands as a unique source and a vault of invaluable information about all modern banknotes.
- The value of this book is going to depend on what you collect - if you collect China, Mexico, Russia, Latin America, and certain British Commonwealth - then yes, this book is very good and very valuable - WHERE IS ISRAEL? Are you trying to tell me there are no specialized issues for Israel/Palestine - Theres lots of people who can help the editor - myself included. The standard Pick Book doesn' list any of the military issues, all standard issues, and none of the specialized issues, I've even emailed scans of notes to the editors - otherpeople have too. Richard Gatto, Bill Rosenblum, the Israel coin and currency c/ollectors group, the AINA, the INS all people who can help the editors, who don't read Hebrew - well sorry we know the notes trust us. We know what they look like - that is only one of many areas totally uncovered and what about Russia - you have 25000 uncataloged notes to go - why did you quit? work getting a little hard - want to do nothing and get an easy buck? that's what this is about - did yall even try to find the market values on these notes? maybe for some markets, I see htat - not every market. The price a note goes for at auction and what a dealer says a note is worth and gives it to Krause can be different. There are too many price differences, i saw notes listed for $125 from Costa Rica in this NEW BOOK sell for $1600 at auction, so explain to me the $125? is that because someone was hoping to buy one at that price? isn't there a problem here, yall think I'm crazy - I've heard this more than dozens of times. Why not be UNBIASED, report the true values, be accurate? Isn't that what a price book is supposed to be? Overall I like the book - but I'm pretty angry about how the editors dealt with me and other collectors about the Israel section they already had all the information and chose not to include it. They had some of it in the book before but took it out, why? The 3rd edition of Pick 2 has many notes currently not included, why's that? I know they work hard. It's either a great book or a lousy book depending on what you collect. Some things have no coverage at all. Maybe you need a Middle East specialist, these notes are non-existant in this book Did yall even ask Armen what he thought? I think you have too narrow of a group of people who give input into these books. Nobody asked me anything, and I know more about Isreal Paper money than a lot of people, but there are people who know more than me. Even the pre-established books weren't consulted. Seems like the editors think they are above everyone else or just plain working too hard, ok admit you can't do the job. Don't say this is everything when it isn't
- this book is great in term for those who very very interested in world currency and pro in this field... it may be good to own a copy of this book cause it include a lot of world money that you and me were not born yet... especially note that impress me is the CHINA's CENTURY ... it is like amazing to see those kind of note that never thought of it would be called as "money"...
anywhere this book is great... and if this book improving its' note with color than it is highly recommended... thank you... regards, Jason Yap
