4 comments about Pocket Guide to Depression Glass & More.
- I recently started collecting depression glass. At the time, I realized how much I didn't know! This book has been my constant companion. The material is clearly presented. The photography is fantastic. The price guide along with the description of each piece of EVERY collection is invaluable. I have become a better educated consumer and glass collector since I keep this within reach. Highly recommend!!
- This is a wonderful guide to depression glass. Each page is devoted to one pattern and lists the different colors, pieces in the collection and the estimated values. It is a small, pocket book size but has 190 pages! So there is A LOT of information packed in this smaller package!!!A wealth of info and beautiful color photographs. Also, there is a section at the back about reproductions on certain patterns.VERY in depth!A must for collectors!
- The pictures are outstanding. This is an easy to use reference guide with over 150 patterns, all alphabetized for quick and easy referance.
- Excellent...great photos and complete listings of pieces in many patterns. Also light and easy to carry...I take it to auctions with me...very helpful. I would recommend it to anyone interested in depression glass.

1 comments about Standard Catalog of World Coins Spain, Portugal and the New World: Spain, Portugal, and the New World (Standard Catalog of World Coins Spain, Portugal and the New World).
- Contrary to what is stated in the editorial review, this catalog does not include Philippine coins during the spanish colonial period. In fairness to the authors it is stated in the foreword that this catalog deals with Ibero-American coinage. Aside from that omission, this book is worth buying in the sense that if all you collect is Spanish/Portugese Colonial Coins you won't have to buy the Other Standard Catalogs that are divided into centuries as this catalog spans the entire timeline.

3 comments about The World of Beer Memorabilia: Identification & Value Guide.
- This beautiful, 184 page deluxe, laminated cover hardbound volume will be enjoyed by every beer memorabilia collector. It contains 184 pages, 8 1/2 x 11", with more than 200 full color, gorgeous, sharp photos, many full page in size. It has '97 pricing. It is loaded with information on this collectable, with very complete item descriptions. Major topics range from early history, brewery company art, signs, trays, brewery beauties, statues, reverse glass, mugs, cans and more. It does not include every item available, but a good representative of each category. A beautiful deluxe library volume. Enjoy, enjoy.
- Book has an extremely limited amount of content. Only the rarest trays are and signs are listed with prices. If your looking for prices for most of the trays you see this is not the book for you, also not a beer can price guide at all. If your expecting to look up Kruger, Ballentine, etc. companys trays to find prices, your not going to find it here.
- Herb and Helen Haydock are the most successful collectors of American brewing artifacts ever to engage in the hobby. Over several decades, they have amassed (and have now donated to Miller Brewing Co. for safekeeping and display) an astounding array of breweriana including cans, trays, back bar breweriana, paper goods, giveaways, etc. Many of these rare and unique items are displayed beautifully in this book, which features finely detailed color and black and white photographs of items in their collection. The book concentrates on full size trays, but does hit on all areas of the brewery collecting hobby. Of note is the Haydocks' specialized interest in the old Potosi brewery. The only criticism I have relates to the estimated pricing of the artifacts - based on my own experience, I would argue that the prices here are at least 30% lower than you would actually pay to acquire the item, and in several cases less than half of what you could reasonably expect to fork over. Aside from that, this is a wonderful trip through time at some items that most of us will only be able to see in this book.

1 comments about Collector's Guide to Vintage Coin Machines (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- If you have any interest in collecting coin-operated machines or in their history, you should get this book. There are a large number of color pictures of historic slot machines, arcade machines, pinball machines, trade stimulators, and jukeboxes. In addition to the pictures and market prices, there is a lot of information about the history of these machines, and tips for collectors. This book was a great help when I purchased a vintage slot machine.

5 comments about Fifty State Quarters Collector's Value Guide (Collector's Value Guides).
- After reading all of the opinions concerning this book, I thought I was receiving a collector's item for which I could store my state quarters. However, I was extremely shocked and disappointed when I received this book and found no coin holders. My main reason for purchasing the book was for the coin holders. I would have thought there was a mistake in shipping had I not received 2 from 2 different companies with the same missing item.
- I love this book. It will come in handy when my child has to do a report, on a certain state. We know of several people who would like to buy this book, but can't find it any where. Can anyone please help me, with some locations to find it? Every time I find it in the internet, it is out of stock. I live in Iowa. I need 5 more.
Thanks, Treasa Vander Hart
- I purchase this book over 2 years ago. All my friends asked me where did you purchase this book. I purcahsed it a Target. This book is very educational not only to me but my seven year old son. He is currently in the first grade and on different social studies homework assignment he needs information regarding the states. He always says, "Mom, I need to go to the Library!" I tell him, "No,everything that you need, is in your book!" I'm glad I bought the book when I saw it because the only way to purchase now, is on-line.
- My twin 8 year olds each have one of these books and they are terrific - both educational and fun. The children anticipate the arrival of each new coin and love to learn about the state/the design choices and also spend some time on the facts of the other states each time we use it.
- The book has a page for each state, plus a page for the new 'gold' dollar, and a few facts on the history of US coins. For each state, there is one die-cut coin holder (2 for the dollar coin); some of these holders required great effort to get the coin to fit. The book also has a few pages of games...although one must note the error on page 70, "...America RECEIVED its independence from Great Britain." In reality, America DECLARED its independence from Great Britain in 1776, fought for 6 years, then negotiated for two. Congress ratified the treaty to end the war in January 1784. I hope next edition of this book corrects this error.

5 comments about Treasures from the Misty Mountains.
- For the money (I paid $3.84 plus S&H), a great deal. However, The Lord of the Rings box set (?1988) and an animated hardback book that I own were not pictured in this guide. I also expected more information about the different printings. I did not see anything about collector First Day Covers, stamps or coins but I haven't read the whole book. Maybe they are in there but not pictured. Again, for the money, I think it is an enjoyable guide for the amature collector or Tolkien fan like myself but a serious collector may find this guide to be lacking.
- I had originally purchased this book to assist me with my new hobby of collecting Tolkien books. It seemed to me that the book was hastily researched and quickly assembled to capitalize on the momentum that the movie trilogy had provided. There seemed to be too little detail for the various books out there and way too many errors in their description. It is now in the possession of my 9-yr old son who enjoys thumbing through the pages and looking at the pictures (probably the best part of this book). If you want a book that will truly help you with collecting Tolkien books, I would suggest Wayne Hammond's "JRR Tolkien, A Descriptive Bibliography" published by Oak Knoll Press, 1993.
- I found this book to be an exstensive resource for Tolkien's writings, the many publishers and cover artists, the first editions and the latest available, and the writings you may never heard of. Seeing the covers of some of the early paperbacks was like finding long lost friends, the editions I grew up reading. I also found the sections on the merchandise spawned by the previous animation features and the new movie trilogy to be very detailed. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the visual history of Tolkien's works and the art inspired by them.
- As the first attempt that anyone has made at a Tolkien guide this is a great effort. Not all of us have the money to buy all the stuff that's out there but at least this book gives us a heads-up on a lot of it. Frankly to make a book comprehensive would be all but impossible and I don't think that was the author's intention. He has done a laudable job just compiling this much and presenting it so well. If you have that collecting itch, buy it.
- I was disappointed in the level of detail that is presented in this book. The majority of the book covers various editions of the books that JRRT has published, for the most part they do not have pictures for all of the versions. For those that they do, they have a simple "front view" of the cover, with minimal details on the edition itself.
In addition, I found the sections on the remainder of the merchandise very lacking, considering I had a number of items not even mentioned, and I am a very entry-level collector. For example, I have numerous pewter figures based on Tolkien's works made by the Tudor Mint, and I was hoping to see a large description and possibly even some pictures about the ones that I do not have, for there are many. However, the only section that even mentioned the Tudor figures was a small paragraph, with no pictures, and only 4 figures were mentioned! I have 10 myself. Additionally, they included a very large and detailed section on the figures and toys based on the New Line Cinema films of this year, which to me are not considered rare of collectible yet, since they are still available at most toy stores. It seems that these were the easiest things to find information on, since they are new, and therefore they put a good portion of that in there. The book should have focused more on things that are no longer in production, hard to find, and had more pictures of these types of items. There's more I could mention, but this sums up my opinion of it. This book is a good starting point for knowledge of this sort, but it falls far short of the mark.

2 comments about American Games: Comprehensive Collector's Guide.
- In this day and age of everything electronic it is great to look back to a simpler era when you didn't need to worry about "batteries included" or if a particular game could only be played on a specific gaming system. Here, in this book you can learn about the board game versions of Monopoly, Risk, and 100s of other "acoustic" games. Written by an acknowledged expert in the field of collectibles Malloy has authored books on comicbooks, toys, fast food collectibles, and even ancient coins. So you know he has a real handle on this stuff.
- A super 352 page softbound volume with more than 400 large, full color, sharp photos and over 500 black and white pix. The comprehensive work lists and values 9,000 + games. The back of the book has over 100 pages of color shots of the games. Dates range from 1744 to the present! Major topics range from Games Thru The Ages, to Golden Age, Silver Age, Modern Age, Simulation Games, Role Playing Games, Card Collecting Games and much more. There is a most comprehensive listing of games by category, making it easy to locate items. Prices are year 2000. An outstanding work. Add it to your collectibles library. Toy and game, or Americana enthusiasts will refer to it often.

5 comments about Warman's American Records, 1950-2000: Identification & Price Guide (Encyclopedia of Antiques and Collectibles) (Encyclopedia of Antiques and Collectibles).
- i bought this cause i like weird al but it is a geat book buy this before it goes to $100 like everthing on amazon!!!!!
- What this book lacks as a reference it makes up for in structure. By stylistically grouping the vinyl entries and providing a well written preamble for each section, Chuck Miller does a great service for the vinyl collector who may not be an expert in every musical genre. If you need a good general vinyl primer or are new to vinyl collecting, this is it. If you need a reference book, get Tim Neely's volumes.
- This is a terrific book that not only fits the needs of anyone seriously interested in music, but will also hold the interest of the more casual music fan. It is filled with fascinating
trivia and a knowledge of the music industry that gives an added depth to the various genres of music explored. It will updoubtedly send the reader re-examining their record collections in search of hidden *finds*. For *anyone* buying or selling records ... or even just learning more about American music ...this book is a *must*!Chuck Miller's encyclopedic knowledge of music shines through in this record guide! It would make a perfect gift for the music lover (or even the trivia buff!) in your life. I recommend it most highly!
- Warman's American Records is not only a great reference book but is also a terrific source of entertainment. Being much more than a price guide, it delves into the history of many of the recordings and offers quite a bit of amusing trivia. I am not a collector in the true sense of the word (although I do own a couple of pieces of valuable vinyl) but I am a music junkie and this book delivers a great fix! I'm looking forward to Volume 2!
- This book is a tremendous guide for people who want to start their own record collection, but aren't sure where to begin or which genre to collect. Over 50 different musical genres, artists and labels are profiled, each with photos of classic and rare LP covers, 45 labels, 78 RPM records, and 7" picture sleeves. The book even explains some rising collectible genres, such as Northern Soul music, Space Age Pop, and jukebox-only collectibles. It also contains ancillary information on record and music websites, magazines, museums and books, in order to help collectors increase their knowledge of their favorite music. If you are a record collector, or are thinking of becoming one, this book is essential reading! I enjoyed it immensely!!

5 comments about Matchbox Toys 1947 to 1998: Identification & Value Guide (Matchbox Toys).
- While this product was nice due to pricing being on one page. Very limited pictures and no detailed description of products. Pricing I believe to be very low of other books on same products. This book is not for beginners due to little pictures and not very good descriptions.
- I purchased this book and was not happy with it. It has a few pictures (less than one I purchased 5-6 yrs ago, which had more info & pictures). I have several items that aren't even in this book, (1956 ford pick-up w/ 2 motorcycles in the back, no info on this one, or several others I have). I would only recommend this book if you want to do alot of searching through words and still not find what your looking for. Otherwise, I don't recommend this book. Now I'm going to have spend more money to find another book with what I want in it.
- If anyone knows where on the net to purchase the 50 state series of match box cars, please send the address. I have half of them & would like the others before December.
- I ALREADY HAVE 1 MATCHBOX CATALOGUE/PRICELIST FOR OLDER MODELS WHICH I HAVE A FEW. THE ONES I ACQUIRE NOW ARE MORE RECENT BUT SOMETIMES DATE BACK TO THE 80'S. THE CATALOGUE I RECEIVED HAS HARDLY ANY PICTURES ALTHOUGH I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE MORE OF MY COLLECTION(ALMOST 175).I CAN'T IDENTIFY MY CARS FROM THE BOOK BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT THE NEWER MODELS DON'T HAVE LETTERS/NUMBERS UNDERNEATH TO MATCH. I GUESS I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE IDENTIFYING TO MY COLLECTION WHICH WILL CONTINUE TO GROW. I AM ALSO TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW TO ACQUIRE THE "50 STATES" COLLECTION. I HAVE ABOUT 21 OR 22 OF THE STATES BUT THE STORES ONLY SEEM TO STOCK THE SAME STATES. OVERALL I AM PLEASED WITH THE BOOK ENOUGH. I'VE JUST GOTTEN MY 6 YEAR OLD SON INTERESTED SO OUR COLLECTION DAYS HAVE JUST BEGUN.THANKS FOR YOUR HELP USERBRO128--L.C.
- While going through my 200+ car Matchbox collection, I found several discrepancies, missing models, and conflicting information compared to that printed on the car. This is not even close to comprehensive collection of Matchbox information.
I don't know if you can tell by the 37 pages of samples, but the book is difficult to read with its thin font and patterned background--very poor design. Though the book says it goes through 1998, it leaves out several models that were copyrighted in 1998. The author flat out states that he arbitrarily assigned letters to the model number designations as his way of showing major model changes. Unfortunately for me, I read this after updating my database. Thankfully I purchased this with a gift certificate and didn't waste any more money on it.
