1. I feel that Ms. Gerson's book is truly ground breaking. Having written "Vintage Purses at Their Best" and "Vintage Compacts & Beauty Accessories" I can identify with how difficult it is to list, photograph and place values on items that are rare and unique--especially when there has not been much written on the subject previously.
   Ms. Gerson was one of the first to do this.
   In all fairness to her, I believe the title of her book "Vanity Bags and Purses" implied "Vanity Bags and (Vanity) Purses"--therefore creating some unintentional misunderstandings.
   I would recommend any of her books to collectors and dealers alike.



2. I have a large collection of vintage handbags which a local museum wanted to display, so I needed to establish values. This book was of no help as it is mostly vanity bags. I ordered this book because the other books listed for sale were too old to have current prices. I am still seeking a CURRENT book with prices to value my 100+ purses! Do not buy this book unless you want to learn more about vanity bags, as there is next to nothing about vintage (beaded or mesh) purses in this book!



3. I was disappointed, but it was my own fault. If I had seen the book before buying, I would have realized there was almost NOTHING about vintage purses, whuch is what I am interested in. However, there are more pictures of Vanity purses than I ever IMAGINED existed! The book is literally bursting with pictures of EVERY type of vanity bag imaginable. I found very little text except to describe the pictures, but if you collect vanity bags, you're certain to find a picture in this book similar to something in your collection. Unfortunetaly this wasn't much help for me.



4. Photographed well, great detail, identification on bags and purses wonderful. A must buy for dealers.

1. According to the preface of this book, this second edition has some different and more rare items than the first edition. It is meant as a companion to the first edition, and is not simply an updated version--good to know before buying. The pictures generally, though not always, are good enough to help a beginning collector identify patterns. The book lists the manufacturer and dates produced, and tells if the patterns have been reproduced. However, for a beginner, a wider range of patterns, particularly all the most common ones, would be most helpful. As a novice collector, I'd start with a different book--probably Edwards' Encyclopedia of Carnival Glass.

1. A fairly interesting book with nice photographs...not too much elaboration on the dolls themselves including their collectability and prices...this would have been more helpful. Other than that, it's a fairly good book.



2. Ms Fecher has written a beautiful book for anyone interested in the art of the doll and doll collecting. That it is all about bride dolls is a special bonus for brides and brides-to-be. I love browsing its pages of beautiful pictures and interesting text. The real life brides are particularly interesting. A wonderful gift for a bridal shower or a Christmas gift for the doll lover. Guys, buy this for Valentine's day if you are planning to pop the question. It will be a great ice breaker!



3. Louise Fecher, one of the most knowledgeable doll writers today, has written an absolutely stunning visual history of contemporary bride dolls. The photographs, both color and black and white, are wonderful and the research involved in this work is always fascinating and entertaining. It's wonderful to see more than a dozen one-of-a-kind bridal dolls created specifically for this book by some of the most well-known artists today. Anyone looking for a unique and beautiful gift for a bride-to-be or the collector who appreciates fine doll creations will absolutely love this book.

1. If you are just getting started with collecting compacts, this is a nice starter book. It breaks down the different categories of compacts (e.g., enamels, novelties, Deco) and gives excellent color examples with good descriptions of what to look for in that category. The small amount of examples also gives a new collector a good foundation for learning about the different makers and styles without getting overwhelmed. If you already have all the other compact books, this one is still worth getting for the pictures and its fresh take on what's out there. There are also nice tips on maintaining and caring for your compacts.

1. This is a extremely valuable and complete book on my new hobby.
   The pictures of the art glass are perfect for help and the information on the Fenton family is very interesting. The book has helped identify Fenton glass perfectly.



2. This book provides an excellent history of Fenton. The photography and guides are very helpful for identification purposes.

   Explanations of the Fenton evolution in glass making provide insight into glass making. Excellent for the novice or seasoned veteran. Nicely done!

A very nice, useful reference work.
