1 comments about A Guide to Collecting Cookbooks: A History of People, Companies and Cooking.
- ...This Would Be It! Colonel Allen's enthusiasm for the subject led him to produce what is probably the definitive work in the field of collecting cookbooks. This book sweeps up both the new and the experienced collector into the fascinating world of vintage cookbooks and their value as a source of historical information. The only drawback I found was the grouping of books in categories for the price guide section, as I found myself thumbing through many places to locate a particular cookbook. However, it contains an exhaustive listing, and once you get used to it, the layout is only a minor annoyance. Along with Dickinson's and Barile's books on the subject, it is fast becoming dog-eared from daily use!

4 comments about American Art Pottery: A Collection of Pottery, Tiles, and Memorabilia, 1880-1950 : Identification & Values.
- This is a highly personal volume, based largely on the author's own collection and interests. But this takes it well beyond the typical collector's book. Sigafoose manages to revive the vanished America of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, putting American art pottery in its social and cultural context. Especially fascinating are the many postcards, factory views, advertisements, and catalogue pages that show how the makers of art pottery presented themselves to the world. "Large gaudy vases and highly colored pictures look cheap and commonplace," advises one such ad. "One small [art pottery] vase, costing perhaps a dollar, will do more to give that touch of elegance and refinement to the the home than any other one thing."

- I know Dick Sigafoose personally, and he knows his Art Pottery. This book is well written and beautifully illustrated, and covers all of the major art pottery studios - from vases to tiles. Every page is filled with good, clear color photos, plus detailed information on the studios that produced these works of art. I highly recommend this book to art pottery collectors - both advanced and beginners.
- This is a lovely book. Beautiful pictures. The collection concentrates on Art Tiles rather than Art Pottery. Great articles on the companies histories. If you collect Art Pottery Tiles this book is for you!

1 comments about Miller's: 100 Years of the Decorative Art: Victoriana, Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau & Art Deco (Miller's Antiques Checklist).
- covers a wide range of different antiques and styles with a focus on the main artists of each style, descriptions, marks, and tips for what to look out for, but does not provide enough examples of the works of each artist or factory featured. good reading, well written, extensive and informative. the book contains a good number of selected designers and manufacturers as well as the different marks of many of them and that is very helpful. the author,Eric Knowles,is one of the leading experts in the field and you notice that as you read. it is a shame he does not put a value estimate by the photos.

2 comments about Haeger Potteries through the Years.
- Highly recommend this book, great pricing structure. Could possibly use an easier way of looking up items but generally a great book.
- We have been collecting Haeger for years. This book gives us a much better understanding of our collection.

5 comments about Gun Digest 2004: The World's Greatest Gun Book.
- The tag line for the Gun Digest is "Essential Information for Shooters, Collectors and Students of the Gun" and that pretty well sums it up. This is the bible of the gun hobby. It has a series of articles that range from the hunt for Bonnie and Clyde to reviews of new gun offerings, it has a summary of what's new in handguns, rifles, shotguns and accessory items, and finally it has a complete catalog of all of the offerings of all the gun companies. I have each annual volume of Gun Digest in my library going back more than 50 years. I can't imagine doing without them.
- If you have the 2001, 2002 or 2003 copies don't buy it, very few changes from those editions, otherwise, the book is an essentisl reference and I like the colored section on custom guns.
- One of the world's greatest handguns is the Wildey, it isn't even mentioned in the handgun section, in the WEB directory Wildey is mentioned as Widley !! It's a same.
Another well known handgun and beatifully designed is the Tanfoglio (www.tanfoglio.it), it is only mentioned once in the Manufactorer's Directory. In the rifles section there's no mention about the Accuracy Precision Rifles (one of the best sniper rifles in the world). The front page is different on the one I got at home and the one shown on Amazon.com Why is that? The front page also says 'Complete Illustrated...' well it isn't complete at all
- The gun digest has been the premier firearms publication since 1944. No other annual has covered the field consistantly for this amount of time. There are many interesting articles from many contributing authors over its 60+ year span that are timeless in their relevance. Buy and collect gun digests where you can find them and you will have a wealth of information at your fingertips. Especially the gun digest treasuries editions. Those are truly gold. They contain, besides reprints of the best articles, a thoroughly indexed cross reference by author or subject of all the articles published in the various publications of the gun digest up to the date of publication of the treasury edition. The last treasury, the 7th was from 45 years of gun digest. I'm hopeful that the current owners, Krause books will come out with a new treasury edition soon. If you view the gun digest as a cumulative work or as a single standalone issue, you can truly appreciate its command of the firearms and shooting dicipline fields. The 2004 edition continues this fine tradition.
- This is a good book, but clearly not the greatest gun book.
