2 comments about Goldmine Records & Prices: A Concise Digest With over 30,000 Listings (Goldmine Records and Prices).

  1. This is an awesome reference guide. Let me first say that I am not a hard core record collector. I have about 600 albums and a few 45s. I found Goldmine Record & Prices the perfect reference book to help me identify and price my collection. It's easy to use and compact so that I can carry it with me when I go looking for records to add to my collection. And the price is great when you consider that there are almost 30,000 records listed. Plain and simple: It's the best value out there.

  2. Goldmine magazine officially recognizes two forms of popular music: rock and roll and Frank Sinatra. On occasion, it grudgingly concedes the existence of other things, like R&B, country, and rock and roll. Oh, wait--I already mentioned rock and roll. So, it's no surprise that this price guide avoids most of the "adult pop" people who sold tons of vinyl from the late 50s through the early 1970s--folks like Johnny Mathis, Ray Conniff, Vicki Carr, Mantovani, and Percy Faith. The premier denouncer of rock among pop singers, Frank Sinatra, is included, however, though Perry Como, who had many times more hits, is nowhere to be found. The Beatles are mentioned any number of times in the introduction, because, naturally, anyone consulting a record price guide will want to know about all things Beatles. Cliche City, U.S.A. Well laid-out, anyway, and useful for cross-indexing years of release for albums and 45s not listed herein. Goldmine's anti-"pop" bias, though, is a problem.

1 comments about Sound Recording Practice: for the Association of Professional Recording Studios.

  1. I bought my first copy of John Borwick's Sound Recording Practise nearly twenty years ago when I started work as a trainee sound engineer at Radio Tees. Since then it has grown and is now in its fourth edition. It covers everything from microphones to the loudspeakers. All recording formats are covered; DAT, CD, CD-R, Minidisc, etc.

Now as a mature sound engineer with twenty years experience under my belt I still have a copy on my bookshelf for reference.

2 comments about 60S Flashback: Music Collectibles from the Age of Change.

  1. I am an artist with a keen interest in psychedelic art, and found this book a very useful reference guide. unfortunately i lent to to a freind who tore most of the pages out. in W.A. i cannot get it anywhere so I thank you amazon for having it amongst your titles!

  2. I've been a big fan of Greg's art directing work (in both Cleveland and Florida) for many years and he certainly didn't disappoint here. Given the horrible vagaries of the book business in general, I, for one, am glad this book exists. (And, he did "fair use" for most of the images, which is cool.)

5 comments about Home Recording for Musicians.

  1. Although I found this book quite well written I can't say that it provided any information to me that I didn't already have. I do have a degree in electronics and have spent a considerable number of years working with home studio equipment but I still felt that Craig's book could have put more detail into each of the chapters. The book is more of a basic tutorial designed for those new to recording who need a jumpstart down the path to audio competence. At this task it is very successful.

  2. this is the book .......the bible if you will of audio knoledge

  3. Craig Anderton knows his stuff. The information as he presents it is absolutely necessary for anyone wanting to produce quality recordings. This book was the first. This author is the best

  4. It's a bit dated now, but Anderton's book is still a valuable reference and tutorial for the would-be home recoder- a description that probably includes nearly every musician today. The book is a bit short on the latest in computerized system, digital recording and MIDI, but it's solid on the fundamentals of microphone use, acoustics and mixing. A must-have.

  5. What surprised me the most about this book is its level of detail when analysed even though upon reading it sounds balanced and very accessible. Anderton tackles some of the more complex techniques with ease an this is indicated by the way the novice and advanced reader can easily immerse themselves without feeling bemused. It is structured in modules with a concise contents listing so the reader can easily use it as a good read or as a reference title to help problems at a glance. I felt the index could be more comprehensive and perhaps a glossary would prove helpful but these are minor issues but at this price (Amazon's!!) nothing comes close so far. If this is the standard to expect I might get some more American books (I'm British you see). If a new revision in hardback or ring-bound came along, especially if it covered more digital and hard disk recording techniques, I would be the first in line. I was an audio amateur until I read this.

    David Bamford
