1 comments about The Guide to Owning a Ferret (Guide to Owning).
- There are several health, behavioral and care mistakes in this books, subtile, so that an uninformed owner would miss them. I've been recommended not to buy this book by several petstores who are required to carry a 'complete' line of ferret books. 'Training your Ferret' and 'Ferrets, a complete guide to a healthy happy pet' are both superior books to this one in accuracy and up to date knowledge (many facts in this book are out of date!)

1 comments about The Complete Book on Housetraining Rabbits: The Only Rabbit Book You'll Need.
- I own the original edition, and the "expanded, revised edition" from 2000. **Make sure you get the revised edition.** Both covers are bright yellow with a lop ear bunny in a kitty box. The newer one, though, under "The Only Rabbit Book You'll Need" has the words, "Expanded Revised Edition."
The original booklet was sweet and insightful, but it was written in 1984 while critical information changed over the years, especially where diet is concerned. For example, the "Expanded Revised Edition" of 2000 points out newer research shows timothy hay is better than alfalfa for adults, and veggies should make up much more of the diet than previously recommended; while pellets should be supplemental for adult rabbits. It also explains how to mix the veggies, which ones are higher in much-needed Vitamin A, and which ones to avoid. It goes into detail about the kind of pellet to get too, and if you can't find them locally, suggests an online company where they are available (with disclaimer that the author is unaffiliated with said company and receives no recognition or compensation). Other information was updated too, and things were added, like a chapter on bunny toys. This little 36-page booklet is a dynamo for its relatively few pages and covers all of the latest know-how. It has 17 chapters chalk-full of the most critical and helpful information: health, 'psychology', diet, how to choose a vet, companions, bunny-proofing, toys, training, precautions, etc. Having kept bunnies for several years, I have read lots of books on their care. This is the quickest read while still being comprehensive enough to cover all the bases - the "cliff notes of bunny books." Lots of research obviously went into this revised edition, and it's written with care and love, keeping all of the charm of the first edition. If you aren't the kind who wants to read a 300 page hard back, this little primer will indeed tell you, in a nutshell, everything you need to know. It even tells you how to keep current via online links to rabbit organizations where the latest research is posted regarding "all-things-bunny." That way even if the book gets outdated, you won't. The only shortcoming is that in 36 pages the author cannot go into the detail that a 300 page book can. I would have liked to see a larger health section, (though there were even things added here). However, the author does go into details where they count, and gives reasons for everything stated. Each chapter also has a handy bulleted summary, making the booklet serve as a quick reference for the nuts and bolts of keeping a rabbit. In conclusion, imho, everyone who gets a bunny should read this little booklet first.

1 comments about Hamsters: The Complete Guide to Keeping, Breeding and Showing.
- This is definitely the best book, or other information source, on hamsters that I've ever encountered. It has everything you need to know if you plan to keep hamsters, whether you interest is in having one as a pet or if you plan to breed and show. The author has years of experience as a breeder and hamster show judge, and he uses all of it to provide the reader with as much knowledge and information as possible. If you can find a copy of this book, it's worth whatever you have to pay.
