3 comments about A Preliminary Report: An Emergency Guide for Collectors of Roseville Art Pottery-The Real-The Damaged-The Repaired-The Fake.
- I found this book to give details on how I can detect a fake piece of pottery. I did enjoy the authors description and discussion on the various difference due to color. I have bought three of Jim Jenkins books and I have enjoyed each one. I do recommend this book to novice collectors. As we look at the more expensive lines, we will need other avenues to detect fakes, because reproduction is so prevelent.
- This book is a waste of time, money and trees. I expected some insight to help determine well made Roseville fakes from the real thing. I found nothing useful in this book what so ever. There is no mention of bottom marks, pattern differences or size reduction that happens when pieces when reproduced from an original and all of THOSE things matter. Instead the reader is treated to a rambling narative that repeats over and over, that someday X-rays may become cheap enough to determine only the most expensive pieces from reproductions. GET REAL, most of us don't need or want that kind of hassle when real methods are available to make determinations in the here and now. I nearly became a book burner over this crap, instead I'm returning it to Amazon so that they can level tables and chairs with its pages. sway
- I read this pamphlet it 10 minutes and learned almost nothing that I didn't already know. I didn't have high expectations, given that fact that it is only 36 pages, but I did expect to get something out of it. There aren't even any pictures. The author provides no evidence of any expertise on the subject. Don't waste your money.
