1 comments about Meissen Porcelain Identification And Value Guide.

  1. This book is very applicable for the dealers of the porcelain especially for Meissen porcelain. This book describes the products of Meissen in general only. For the practicians or the collectors there is recommended another kind of the book. The prices aren't too reals,it depend of the market demand. For the specification correct I recommend to look for the book "Meissen figuren",where you can find completely whole production of the figures(I hope that's truth)

5 comments about Collectors Encyclopedia of Hall China.

  1. A lady I know worked in Halls china in East Liverpool Ohio, she loves looking at the book and telling stories about the plant and the time she worked there. She has a lot of the china and I find myself collecting it. This book is a great help, and I am very thankful to have found it.

  2. This is a must have for Hall China enthusiasts. The format is clear and easy to follow. There is so much great information with pictures and pricing info. for a wide variety of Hall China pieces. I carry the book with me whenever I am shopping at Antique Stores looking for Hall China.

  3. The edition is as complete a guide for the mian lines of Hall China as you can probably find, however I think the photo layout and quality were better int he previous version.

  4. The Whitmyers obviously worked for years and simply produced "The Informative Reference" to the wonderful Hall China Company and its long production of products. If you love Hall China, this is the book that you HAVE to have in your library. Packed with facts, photos, information found nowhere else but in this volume. Through the help of dealers, collectors and friends; they were able to show Hall's artistry and employee craftsmanship at its finest.
The color photos pop from the pages as the digital up-to-date photo process allows for this volume. It is so wonderful to see so much Hall China and accessories one might never have a chance to see otherwise if it were not included in this book. Hats off to the Whitmyers and all those who allowed them to photograph such fabulous collections.

  5. This is one of the best collector reference books I have ever seen. It is laid out in an easy to read and refer format and the pictures are fantastic. It contains well over 100 pages on teapots alone. Descriptions are clear, interesting and well written.

This is a perfect addition to the Hall China or teapot collector's library.

4 comments about Warman's Roseville Pottery: Identification & Price Guide.

  1. The book states it is a price guide. The author had pictures of as many as 9 pieces being auctioned and vague discriptions of some with chips. Another example is a Donatello jardiniere (with chip repair) & pedestal $180-$220. A picture of a Donatello bud vase on the same page just over 6" is listed at $180-$220.Yet another jardinier on the same page (smaller than the one that includes the pedestal with a rim chip is $200-$250.Auction prices for multiple pieces & damaged items need to be kept separate.

  2. I am not happy with my recent purchase of Warman's Roseville book. It does not provide a complete listing of suggested prices and many of the pictured pieces are described with damage along with a price. For example, hanging basket with "chip on handle." For a serious collector the book is not of much use and for the inexperienced collector the book is misleading--damaged pieces do not sell for anything close to what mint pieces sell for.

  3. Great book for a quick overview on Roseville pottery, the different patterns and price ranges. Not a complete book but a good quick reference for those just starting to collect.

  4. Though by no means a complete showing of every shape made for each design, it IS a very generous sampling of each design, with beautiful studio photographs cover to cover. That makes it a must-have for any Roseville lover- none of the ugly black and white catalogue page reprints. NOT so great for pricing information. The pieces are priced with their existing blemishes, which would make a perfect piece of the same design worth ?? how much ?? Also has price listed for the whole set, if the photo includes more than one piece. That is just not helpful when you want to put a value on one piece.
If not for the vague pricing information, I would rate this 5 stars- especially compared to other Roseville guides. Very helpful visuals in this one!

2 comments about Antique Trader Stoneware and Blue & White Pottery Price Guide.

  1. Hello out there.I have alot of reference books and I now consider this book as one of my favorites. It has a nice small section on Red Wing and Western Stoneware, but mostly good old salt glazed pieces. If you collect old Eastern Salt Glaze with Cobalt this book will help.

  2. I purchased this book to find out more about decorated stoneware. This book is basically a haphazard listing of pieces that were auctioned off at different auctions. The descriptions are not always above or below an item. Sometimes they are very hard to follow. The prices are the actual auction price. No information on how to tell where a piece is from, that is not marked. No easy way to read this book.

3 comments about Dresden Porcelain Studios: Identification & Value Guide.

  1. Dresden Porcelain made in the late 19th and early 20th century are mostly hand-decorated, and the book presents information by maker or studio, which is easy to follow. With makers marks, basic information and hundreds of photographs, the publication is a true resource for the beginning or advanced collector. I've collected Dresden for years, and refer to this book often!
I appreciate the Harran's as porcelain dealers and collectors, who, like me, have published on our favorite antiques and collectibles!
My book is also available right here on AMAZON!
Pictorial Guide to Silvered Mercury Glass: Identification & Values

  2. This book is just right for the beginner. It gives a bit of history,a price range on some pieces and some lovely pictures but not many identifying marks. It looks lovely on your table, but if your looking for identifying marks, and dating your dresden this is just the tip of the iceberg.

  3. You can reach to know the value and identification of the arts.

5 comments about Franciscan: An American Dinnerware Tradition.

  1. My Father was the last Dinnerware Plant Manager for Franciscan China while it was still made in California. This book included alot of Franciscan China that is usually left out. I recommeded this book to my Father, who bought it and loved it too.

  2. Excellent material, but I wish the colors were more vivid and true to the real colors of the pottery. I recommend the book because it has a wealth of information for anyone who enjoys learning about all the patterns and their history. It would be a wonderful addition to the library of a collector or anyone interested in California pottery.

  3. Great resource. If you're a collector, BUY THIS BOOK. The pricing guide is an amazing reference for rare and uncommon pieces.

  4. The book is well written and I've learned quite a bit. However, I don't like that there isn't a photo of every piece (like the child's plate) or how to tell the difference between a casserole and a covered vegetable. I also didn't like that the price guide doesn't break down the year the item was made, just prices of American made, and made in England. Is one made in 1941 worth more than one in 1980??? The book and the guide doesn't say. I also felt as though it was CLEARLY written from a SALES perspective, complete with a photo of The Replacements headquarters on the back cover!

  5. This is probably the best book on Franciscan dinnerware around. It gives a lot of information on the company, it's history etc. I would have liked to see more information and photos on the handpainted items, namely the Apple and Desert Rose varieties. There are only a few pages devoted exclusively to them. There is a price guide included that covers most of the items, although it doesn't show photos of each piece. I think it's a pretty good book though and I'm glad I bought it.

4 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of McCoy Pottery.

  1. This is a well organized reference to McCoy. It contains a history of McCoy; this added knowledge adds to the fun of collecting and allow you to sound more like you know what you are doing. Then there are pages on the different "marks" of the pottery. There is a value guide. But I find it easer to do my own comparing. The big plus is the color pictures that show what is available. For those discriminate people that do not just buy anything that says McCoy there is an index. It is also fun to see you McCoy pieces in the book.

  2. I received this book as a gift. It is a great reference to have when I am shopping for McCoy pottery and want to make sure I am not over paying. The detailed history of McCoy is also very interesting. My only complaint is that one page of descriptions was duplicated and as a result, it is missing accurate descriptions for one page or about 15 items.

  3. I have a question about an entry in the 1997 Collectors Encyclopedia of McCoy Pottery concerning the soup tureen for the El Rancho Sombrero Serv-All. Does the price listed for the Sombrero include the Tureen or would they be priced separately? Judy

  4. I was very pleased with the information on the McCoy Pottery Company and the pottery manufactured by McCoy that this book offered. I would recommened this book to anyone interested in collecting McCoy pottery. This book has a large selection of photos of the various types of pottery produced and the different markings used on the pottery.

1 comments about Miller's: Encyclopedia of British Transfer-Printed Pottery Patterns, 1790 - 1930 (Mitchell Beazley Antiques & Collectables).

  1. The book is good; not totally comprehensive but good for a collector. I ended up finding it elsewhere. Be careful when ordering... I ordered it in early May and just got word that the ship date has been delayed AGAIN until late August! Go find it elsewhere!
